Lovely old coaching inn. Great location in Woodstock and close to Blenheim Palace. Friendly and helpful staff. A great place to stay.

What I didn't like was being charged £24 for two poached eggs on toast as when I ordered for three guests I asked if this would be the price of the full English (£24) and was told NO A very expensive breakfast Indeed
Love the hotel and have stayed before, love the rooms, noticed some cleaning issues that we alerted staff whom immediately upgraded us and we was happy
Breakfast service, server not very friendly
Would have liked some toast with our full English. Overall 8 out of 10 would go back

On site parking is great. Paid for breakfast in advance but when we ate, we were advised there were supplements for cappuccinos! And not everything was included, so eggs Benedict was a supplement too. Didn’t get offered toast with breakfast. Staff not very helpful. Rooms needed a refresh, there was rust on the shower support. No extractor fans. Could only plud beside lamp in or charger, not enough sockets. Handy location for Woodstock and Blenheim palace. No warm welcome as a returning repeat guest.
The Hotel is looking extremely tired and needs to up its game.
We stayed in the Churchill Suite with a Sofa so old that it was probably sat on by Sir Winston himself.
The television in the sofa area clearly had never worked me mentioned it on leaving but am sure it is a known issue that never gets fixed.
The curtains and blinds are all tattered and old - some money really needs to be spent on this hotel - will stay at The Feathers the next time.
Also the hotel needs to invest in some coffee machines at breakfast- rubbish black coffee from a metal flask is not good enough anymore- we are not living in the 1990s.
All the Staff were absolutely excellent and very helpful- but The Bear is VERY tired.
We had a 3 night stay at the Bear hotel.
The hotels location is fantastic...Blenheim palace grounds are less than a 5 minute walk and the hotel also has its own car park. Itis also situated in the town square. Lots of shops and restaurants nearby.
We had a delux room (room 11). Although its front door lead onto the main car park and to be honest is not much to look at from the outside once inside it had a fantastic gallery bedroom that overlooked the lounge. It had a very comfy large bed and a separate shower cubice.
Breakfast was very tasty and catered for all food groups.
The evening menu had an adequate choice of meal. Service was friendly and polite.
I think the hotel is really good value for money and would recommend it to anyone going to visit Blenheim.
Lovely property but the staff need some training. Check in staff are rude, impolite and not very friendly. A fire alarm sounded early in the morning and the staff didn’t even evacuate themselves. Very very dangerous.
Fantastic stay at this prestigious coaching house hotel.
Everything about the stay was fantastic.
Room exceptional, friendly staff and good food.
As it's an old property parking can be an issue with limited space, however, as in middle of Woodstock, plenty of parking around at a reasonable price
Stayed for one night to visit Blenheim Palace. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. It’s s perfect location with parking. It is an old building, it does creak, but didn’t hear any other guests even though it was busy. Could do with a spruce up, but would stay again!

Liked: Cleanliness
Nice location, staff friendly. Breakfast nice but staff didn’t clear away dirty plates. Requested fresh coffee and tea and despite a reminder it didn’t arrive.
We are in the hospitality business and have stayed at some outstanding historical properties throughout the United Kingdom.
The photos of this hotel looked like it would be equally beautiful, charming and high end.
Unfortunately the interior is run down with old stained carpets, drapes severely frayed and looking tired throughout.
Our room was clean for which we are grateful.
We stayed in another hotel (The Lygon Arms , which would be a great model to be inspired by) which was also built in the 1200’s and it was luxurious, inviting and sumptuous in its decor throughout its many sitting rooms, dining rooms and our bedroom ensuite.
The word through out the town of Woodstock is its declining in reputation.
Being a historic property and outside the gates of Blenheim, the owners would be wise to do a major renovation and investment to keep guests coming. People will continue to flood Woodstock and will find other places to pay the big bucks.
Hotel was well located and easy access to local conveniences.
Room was clean.
Evening meal was very good. Both bar and restaurant staff were very attentive.
