Stayed here for a wedding in the area. Managed to get the rooms cheap with booking early but wouldnt have wanted to pay much more. It was basic & one of the rooms smelt damp. There was a wedding there & it was full of noisy kids, woken up in the night by someone running down the corridor carrying on! Not the hotels fault but gives an indication of the clientel 😣.

Damp

My room was on the 4th floor. All I could smell on the floor was damp, the room was a little better but not much. Good job I was only staying one night and on my own otherwise I would have rejected the room.

Wonderful weekend

Arrived late due to horrendous traffic problems and we were pleasantly surprised by the hotel. The staff were wonderful and really very friendly.

Problem prevented stay

On arrival to check in I was informed that an electrical problem had closed a wing of the hotel and I had been booked into another hotel nearby. The Mercure staff were apologetic and had done what they could for me in finding me an alternative, but that alternative pub-based accommodation fell short of the standard that I had hoped for at Mercure, the more so having stayed at Mercure before. For this reason I have only been able to score the performance of the staff in the brief reception desk encounter I had with them - the minimum rating for the other features are given only because a nil rating was not allowed! The recommendation (again a required response) is based on a previous visit.
