The estate is highly interesting and the history associated with the site fascinating. The courtyard and buildings have the feel of an Oxbridge college. The room I had was well equipped and clean, just very noisy. I moved to another single which was a bit quieter than the first but even here most sounds carried from surrounding rooms, noisy plumbing etc. It seems to be due to the construction of the building rather than particularly noisy guests If you are not troubled by this, or have decent earplugs ,it is manageable and otherwise it is a lovely place to stay. Breakfast was very good, the listed gardens can be visited and there is a good cinema on site.

It’s an ancient court yard rescued in the 1920s. The rooms are quirky , but delightful
Didn’t like costumer service , room service and horrible breakfast .

The hotel building is beautiful and the surroundings ideal,, however the hotel itself maybe not so much!
The rooms are a good size but many have their own bathroom /toilet along the corridor seperate to the bedroom this means a fairly regular opening and closing of doors with a bang all through the night (we had our facilities in our bedroom but the room right next to us had to go through a fire door to get to theirs!)
Staff - some were lovely some were not interested ,the lad at check in was only interested in getting concert tickets on the phone and not customer service while the restaurant staff were great and the food very good they were let down by kitchen issues ranging from wrong sauces on wrong plates and the menus given to customers not matching the menu they were working to ,so duck came with blue cheese and beef pie with blue cheese sauce came dry, desserts with sorbet or ice cream on them arrived with 3 blackberries instead because thats what the chefs menu apparently said it should!
Our understanding is, this is a fairly regular issue and we witnessed other tables having the same problems.
Breakfast buffet was very good though.
We had a great 2 night stay in a second floor room which had an amazing A-shaped beam in the middle of it, antique furniture and an arts & crafts fireplace - quirky and characterful. The gardens provided a peaceful walk and the bar - The White Hart - was good for a beer, we hadn't booked a table so didn't eat there.
Dartington Hall has a lovely vibe. Stunning surrounds and very helpful, friendly staff. Dinner and breakfast were fabulous quality in a lovely building. The grounds were superb and the discount card helped with the expenses! Room was fairly basic and thin walls between the rooms. Having our own loo and shower across the corridor was a pain but we got used to it! The Dartington estate is lovely and we could walk into Totnes which was a bonus! We would stay again.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
The evening meal options could have had more choice for those who don’t eat red meat or are allergic to cheese. Also the menu was the same each day - we stayed for three nights. When our room was serviced we did not receive clean cups on one occasion. We had not realised there was no lift - we’re in our 70s.
Dartington Hall, although a lovely place with helpful and friendly staff, is not really suitable for people with mobility problems as there are steps and cobbles outside and stairs inside ( no lifts) plus very heavy doors to open. All of this is difficult with a walker and would be impossible with a wheelchair. Able-bodied visitors will enjoy their stay however, and I would recommend Dartington Hall to them.
