Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
On the positive side, the room was very clean and comfortable, and hotel and dining room staff were friendly and helpful. However the lack of a lift was literally a pain, as I have bad arthritis and my room was on the top floor. Parking was extremely sparse. Overall the hotel looked tired and in need of a facelift inside. Also not ideal to have the doors locked at 11pm.
Very nice, historic hotel in the lovely centre of Shrewsbury. Good breakfast, attentive staff and very good value. Recommended.

Been before but the place we stayed has got new owners and does need a lot of work doing. They don’t have a pub there and the hotel rooms need new windows. Other than that girls are fine and breakfast was good too. The other problem was we had to walk up to our hotels with all our bags too as the lift needs fixing.
CURTAINS GOOD SO ROOM NICE AND DARK TO SLEEP. A BIT NOISY SUNDAY MORNING WITH THE ROAD SWEEPERS. LOVELY HOT WATER FOR BATH.
NICE QUALITY TOILET PAPER. COMFORTABLE BED.
WOULD DEFINITELY STAY AGAIN.
Great to see the Lion open again, new carpets and redecoration makes the hotel look fresh and welcoming. Breakfast lovely plenty of choice and available until11am.
Staff great as usual looking forward to staying again.
We had a lovely time there the staff were friendly, we had big room everything was there what you needed.

Disliked: Amenities
We were shocked to see no bar or restaurant open at this hotel. Very limited staff. Room curtains ripped. Apparently they have no drinks licence holder at present. Would like to of been made aware of this before booking.
We chose this hotel because of it's location and history. The Lion certainly did not disappoint us! Wonderfully old and worn, thoroughly as we expected, loved it! Room was clean, warm and the beds extremely comfortable. Breakfast the following morning was plentiful and cooked beautifully. Staff very polite and helpful. If I needed to stay over again in the stunning town, I would definitely book again.
room and reception staff were lovely but unfortunately when we went for breakfast there was no staff around to ask for a cooked breakfast, to then be told after we had been sat for upwards of half an hour that the kitchen was closed and they are no longer serving hot food. we were down with plenty of time but due to no staff around it left a bit of a sour taste about the experience. we would visit again and hopefully this doesn't happen to others
It’s a 1600 inn so floors creak and are uneven.
It looks a bit tired but is being updated. The staff more than make up for that. They a friendly and very helpful. Though the restaurant was shut but breakfast was excellent.
Well worth a stay.
