What a lovely stay we had.. the rooms have been updated, so fresh beds duvets pillows and bathrooms… The furnishings and curtains etc, could do with an upgrade, but did not ruin are stay. The breakfast was excellent and the staff were lovely. What an experience to stay in a building with so much history!

Superb Hotel

Really enjoyed our 2 nights at The Lion,the staff were friendly and helpful, got a room on the first floor so not too many steps, very clean and comfortable and spacious, as expected the floorboards were creaky, but wasnt an issue, breakfast excellent, and we were blown over by shrewsbury, gorgeous town, quirky pubs, great architecture, and very vibrant, definitely returning and will stay at The Lion again.

Everything was great clean rooms comfortable rooms. Staff were really helpfully. Breakfast was delicious. Well worth a visit. It must have been avgreat hotel.

Lovely stay, the hotel is very old and the furnishings stay lin line with that. Its creaky and spooky which is fun and the staff were all very friendly.

Hotel with lots of character and very helpful staff. Breakfast cooked to order and arriving hot. Within easy walking distance of the town centre and rail station. Single bed in my room was not the most comfortable.

This is a very old building and is tired in places, but is being run by a group of fabulous staff. They couldn't of made us any more welcome. No bar atm but happy for us to buy and bring in and supplied us with glasses. We had a brilliant time and we will be back in the very near future. Super clean and plenty of hot water! Thank you.

Nosiest hotel I've ever stayed in (out of a lot!)

Noisiest hotel ive ever stayed in. Very loud music til late, which by itself wouldnt have been so bad. However, every door closing, every voice, laugh, TV, phone call...completely audible from our room. After an hour of someone in the room above us stomping around causing the walls to shake, i had a migraine. I spoke to reception who initially said that there was nobody above us (there were no floor plans anywhere...isn't this a requirement for fire regs?). Then they said that the room above us would be empty that night. 3.30pm we were relaxing in the room and Stompy McStomp returned. We went downstairs and they asked if we had our "old room card". It must happen so often that they just assumed we would move rooms. We asked what the compensation would be; of course the manager wasn't in. We explained that we couldnt be bothered to move our stuff with no guarantee of compensation so we left after one night. Obviously paid for all 3. Lots of bad smells in the hotel. Think the room had been smoked in in the past from the smell. Pubes in the bathroom. Lazy maintenance - they installed a second toilet roll holder and didnt bother removing the first. There was the standard sign about washing towels and the environment- interesting given that when we arrived the heating was on full and windows all open. The parking is a scam - signs state £10 per day. Luckily id forgotten my password as when we checked in at reception they said it's £5 if you pay there. Greedy, lazy owners.

The Lion hotel is a superb hotel in Shrewsbury. Not far from the railway station. Room was lovely, bed very comfy and en-suite. Breakfast was top notch. Would recommend.

I liked the fact I could park my car at the hotel and was free to check in at 3pm. Shrewsbury is one of my favourite places to be and the position of the hotel made my life easier. Last time I was in Shrewsbury I stayed somewhere else and it was appalling. I will definitely stay here again.

Nice Hotel, lovely people

The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is a bit tried but the staff really do make the effort. Room was clean and tidy, no complaints. Breakfast was good, would stay again

Lovely old building but has many short staircases to negotiate with luggage, but staff gave excellent help with this. Parked the car in the main hotel garage but unfortunately it was underneath a popular pigeon nesting spot. The car was there overnight and next day was absolutely plastered with guano. I couldn't see through the windscreen! I had never seen so much in such a short time and there was no hose available to clear it off. We had to use water from our drinking bottles and a de-icer. A member of staff did come to help but only with a kettle of water. The garage needs warning signs.

First time in shrewsbury, will definitely be back. The Lion is perfectly located and relatively easy to get to. Just be aware of the one way systems in the town centre. Hotel is old but has great facilities.
