The market town of Kendal, 20 miles, is known as the ’gateway to the southern Lake District’, and perfect to have a day on one of the famous Windermere cruises. Walkers can tackle the quieter Howgill Fells, a day on these tops can be considerably less busy but equally just as spectacular for views.
