Enjoying Sunsets over St. Ives, Sandunes and Stunning beaches from this beachside home from home
Hi-Up is a spacious and comfortable traditional timber holiday chalet which occupies an elevated position amongst the sand dunes at Riviere Towans. Enjoying views towards Hayle Estuary, Hayle cricket pitch, West cornwall golf course & St. Uny's church at Lelant and distant views towards Carbis bay & St. Ives, High-Up is just a short walk from the three miles of sandy surf beach below, and offers a great location from which to explore St. Ives Bay on Cornwall's stunning North Coast.
From Hayle Estuary to the surf beach of Gwithian and National Trust Godrevy, The Towans at Hayle is a world class beach and a stunning stretch of the south West Coastal path, taking in coves, cliffs and dramatic sand dunes as well as tidal pools and excellent conditions for water sports.
On a clear day St Michael's Mount on the South Coast is just visible through binoculars from the chalet and on less clear days Hi-Up offers a cosy space from which to enjoy the Cornish mizzle drifting up the estuary to the RSPB reserve, or watch the coastal train making its way from St. Ives to St. Erth! Views can be enjoyed from the living room, deck and both bedrooms.
With comfortable, dog friendly accommodation for up to 4 (2 double rooms), Spacious open plan living / dining area, a well equipped kitchen, and parking adjacent to the chalet steps, High-Up makes a great beachside bolthole for couples and friends alike.

Our family's association with Hayle and the Towans ('towans' means sand dunes in Cornish) dates back to our grandparents' visits before the First World War. My brothers and sisters and I have very happy childhood memories in the 1950s and 60s of long hot summer holidays, staying at The Ramblers and other chalets, romping across Mexico Towans with our surf boards to the beach. Nowadays we walk our dog on the same route but at a much gentler pace! In those days we could also cross the Hayle river mouth, with its dangerous currents, to Porth Kidney Sands and Lelant in Jack Couch's ferryboat – long since gone. We would arrive on the 10.30 train from Paddington – the famous Cornish Riviera Express – or, even more exciting, on the night train, with trunks of clothes and bedlinen. We were met at St Erth station by Mr Polkinghorne in his old Daimler taxi which often got stuck in the sandy tracks around the Towans before proper roads. In our grand parents' time there were sports days and carnivals at the chalet ‘camp' - in those days Riviere Towans was a mixture of tents and wooden chalets. There was no mains drainage until the 1970s so chalets had to rely on Mr Baumbach's weekly visits with his tank on a truck to empty the chemical lavatories! Hayle was very important during the Industrial Revolution in the early 19th century. Harveys of Hayle made steam engines for railways and ships which were exported around the empire and the world. After World War II Hayle went into decline, but, as you will see, is now in the process of much regeneration. There is an exciting development underway at Hayle harbour with housing and restaurants and shops on North Quay below the chalet. Hayle is also home to the Wave Hub Project 16 km offshore - a renewable green electricity generation project. Hi Up was built in 1980 near the site of Wheal Lucy, an old tin mine, long since abandoned, capped, and the engine house demolished. We hope you will have a lovely stay, and enjoy your holiday at Hi Up as much as we always do!

The holiday park is one of the oldest in the country, with the first chalets constructed in the early 1920s. Now a beautiful site with a vast range of unique, quirky and privately owned accommodation, including beach chalets, bungalows and lodges. Many have stunning sea views and all are within a few minutes walk of the beach.
On the doorstep
Walk the coastal path at low tide all the way along the beach from Hayle river mouth to the Cliff tops of Godrevy and the surf break at Gwithian where you'll find great food and drinks from cocktails to coffees, ice creams and fresh seafood at the local cafes and restaurants.
For those seeking surf, beginners to experienced surfers and bodyboarders can enjoy doorstep breaks at Hayle Rivermouth and Mexico Towans, both within walking distance of the park. Paddle boarding and kayaking on the Estuary, as well as kitesurfing and windsurfing are popular all year round.
Hayle is home to the RSPB Hayle Estuary Reserve, Paradise Park Wildlife Sanctuary, Hayle Lido, ice cream parlours, gift shops, great food (including Cornwall's best Pasties from Philps), pubs and supermarkets.
Further Afield
Take the coastal train from Lelant to St. Ives, and visit The Tate & Barbara Hepworth museums. Visit Newlyn Harbour and Fish market for the best in Cornish Fish. Wander around the historical market town of Penzance, taking in the Harbour and Egyptian House or take a day trip to Lands End and coastal walk to Sennen Cove.
Find your way to Knill's Monument and Steeple Woodland Nature reserve, a 40 acre public open space which overlooks St Ives Bay before making your way down to Carbis Bay for fabulous food, drinks and its sheltered beach.
Cornwall has always been a favourite of artists, writers and film producers and its rugged coasts and beautiful coves have featured in numerous films and TV series most recently, the popular Poldark series. Whether it is a relaxing break or a more action packed holiday you are seeking, Toms Holidays at Riviere Towans is the ideal destination.
