The buildings and grounds were beautiful. The interior, especially our room, was markedly tired. The staff were young and appeared to be over worked. The fried breakfast was unpleasant on the first day, so I chose to only have cereal on the second day. I would not recommend my friends or family to stay there. There is a lot that the owner/s have to invest time and money into, to get the hotel to the standard that reflects the nightly rate.

Beautiful place but improvements required.
Beautiful location and buildings, with nice gardens. However we had to wait 5 minutes before someone could check us in. The room carpet was quite worn and dirty, a teaspoon was stained with lipstick. Showering was a bad experience as the water wasn't very hot. Poor acoustic insulation made the sleep disrupted, especially squeaky boards were heard at nighttime. The breakfast was ok, by the way.
My room was nice and simple for a single man travelling with work. The bath could have done with a thorough scrub to make it shiny white but that would hardly make a difference to my experience. The shower was slightly tempermental in room 5 and in the evening whilst in bed, foot traffic noise travels considerably making what was a long day a bit frustrating when I'd finally got to bed.
My biggest bugbear though is the £50 pre-auth charge they take. Second time I've stayed there and it took 5 weeks for money to come back to me and expecting the same again. If you're there for a long term stay I can understand but for one night as a former guest it seems uneccessary.
Looks lovely from the outside. Wasn't told about EV charging from check in, only found out at check out, I'd never previously had to pay for destination charging.
Walking to the room there were holes in the walls down the corridors.
Paid over £120 for a single room, I stay in a lot of hotels but the bed was probably the most uncomfortable I'd ever slept in.
Food menu of the evening very limited and service was slow.
Breakfast, worst coffee I'd ever tasted. Tasted like peppermint coffee somehow (no I hadn't brushed my teeth beforehand).
Nice location, old building so rundown with peeling plaster etc. and room I stayed in was not so appealing. Bar was miserable, had to keep walking to reception for staff member. New staff unable to pour a draft lager. Food was well priced but nothing special. Wine expensive. Breakfast mediocre. Larger was not the best, Grolsh in anything other than a Grolsh glass. Tasted flat and unappealing. Pillows were feather filled, felt like poked in head all night. Not much sleep. Staff good but hands tied. Won't go back. Experience good but not repeatable.

Lovely building however all areas that we saw could do with a big refresh, upgrade or tidy up. The bed was comfortable, the breakfast nice but there seemed to be limited staff.
Comfortable room, easy check in. The only downside was the menu on site was limited and for what food available was pricey for what it was. Also, the cost of diet soft drinks was extortianate with the advice 'not worth it' not really a great customer experience. Some members of the public don't drink or could equally be diabet so diet coke/pepsi etc. being on draught and cheaper than the glass bottle option would be good.

Great location for visiting the area, and close enough to town for walking in. Lovely looking old building in stunning grounds. Very helpful, polite and friendly staff. Room was pretty basic without much style, and bathroom looked a bit tired. Loads of cobwebs around the bathroom window and coffee drips on door in breakfast room, that looked like they had been there a while. Overall, this lovely old building looked and felt somewhat dated & neglected inside and may have been understaffed, as the staff tried really hard but seemed rushed off their feet.
The hotel and staff were very good my only criticism is that the restaurant was a cold room , although the food was good it was not very comfortable there and we feel we rushed our food for that reason
The restaurant was awful things off the menu not told about starts or main courses dirty glasses and cutlery long delays for food arriving and then the wrong food. Six people got up and left the wait was so long
Such a shame as a lovely venue with beautiful gardens and a lovely old building
This property was a find! We stayed in the coach house and loved it. It was very quiet despite a wedding and reception on site by chance coinciding with our visit. The only issue was finding the house, but thank God for Google maps!

The hotel is in a lovely setting, nice and quiet and in a ideal location. The staff was very friendly and the bed was very comfortable.
Now for the bad bits.
The room that we had was in a horrible state, there was stains on the carpet, stains on the bed and cobwebs around the room. The bathroom, well, there was paint flaking off all around the coving, cracks in the walls. The cistern lid had a big chip on it.
The hole room needs decorating.
The breakfast was very overpriced for what you get if you bought it at the hotel.
Constructive criticism: The staff were all very friendly and pleasant, but were not properly trained; 45 minutes' - 60 minutes' wait for dinner order even to be taken, and then only by beckoning a member of staff - there were too few of them. Some diners who came into dining room first were apparently unnoticed, and those who entered later appeared to be have their order taken first - no real organisation.
Bed linen and towels were clean and fresh. Availability of hot water in bathroom was inconsistent. There were occasional wood lice crawling around the bedroom - I know this happens in older properties; what should have been dealt with (and wasn't during my 48 hours' stay) were the dead wood lice on landings and stairways; these should have been vacuumed up fairly promptly but they remained there throughout my entire stay.
It is a beautiful building, as are the grounds, but it is very tired everywhere - and I think that it is very, VERY expensive for what is offered.
