Good value in a great location

A comfortable clean hotel in great location for visiting Canterbury. We certainly stay there again as it was good value for money, breakfast was excellent with a really good selection of food. Easy walking distance of all the main attractions and the cathedral only two minute walk away.

Neighbouring property playing extremely loud music until 3am, with loud machine noise internally for the rest of the night. Overlooking an area full of rubbish and looked like a dump! Shower broken with no hot water… not 4 star experience!

Great but dont have the breakfast

Lovely place comfortable room. Very Clean only thing that lets this place down is the breakfast. Was expecting breakfast to be a little more than just full english. There are no cereals, fruit available to help yourself instead they charge extra for it. Plus the tea and coffee wasnt very forth coming.

Very central. Howere the water in room 127 was very very hot. Couldn't shower as Couldn't mix the water. We did mention this on departure. As i have a knee probelm i Couldn't bathe as no had grip in the bath

Room was agreeable with everything you would expect from a night in a hotel. Excellent location and was quiet. What let this stay down was the breakfast, which I paid to have included in my stay. Disappointed that the orange juice was more like cheap cartoon orange, which tasted watery and more like squash and not fresh orange juice, and at £3 a glass, I’d expect a little bit more. Also my pot of tea contained a long thick black hair (I’m white blonde,) which didn’t come out of the pot until my last pour. As you can imagine, this made me feel quite unpleasant. I pointed it out to the waitress who apologised but didn’t take it away or even offer to replenish my pot of tea. A separate waitress, as I left the restaurant recommended to mentioned it to reception upon checkout, which I did. I only got an apology and the receptionist advising she would be speaking to the kitchen staff as it’s their job to clean the dishes. Most high end hotels would at least offer to reimburse the breakfast or provide a discount on another stay. The receptionist just walked off. I’m not one to usually complain but felt this experience really dampened my impression of the overall stay, which is a great shame.

We enjoyed our stay at Abode with the bed being extremely comfortable and the shower delightful. We also really enjoyed a number of cocktails in the bar downstairs!

Disappointing stay

Was quite disappointed with our recent stay at the Abode. Was expecting standards to be higher than other hotels but would rate the Premier Inn higher than this. Some members of staff were very helpful but others were rude. The room was basic and very small. The wallpaper was peeling off the walls and tape was used to keep it up. The bathroom needed updating with the shower head hanging off the wall and needed cleaning. The view from the room was awful and was kept up until 2am due to the noise from the pub opposite. Asked for spare pillows but waited for 45 minutes and they didn’t come so had to go and ask again. Breakfast was below standard. English breakfast was fine but eggs benedict was cold and muffin was hard. Had to wait over 30 minutes to get the attention of staff to ask for more food and drinks. Overall would be put off from staying here again.

Happy overnight stay

We stayed overnight as the work Christmas party was in Canterbury and it meant we didn't have to drive. Hotel staff were extremely friendly and the breakfast delicious. The bar was very nice and i can recommend the home made shortbread biscuits.

OK in Canterbury

The location of the hotel is superb, but please do not go there expecting a 4* experience. To be fair, it isn't really priced at 4* level. The room was quite small with basic, though comfortable, furniture. The bathroom was poorly planned with a very noisy fan, which unfortunately has to come on if you use the loo at night, because both it and the light have to be on before you can flush the toilet! Both the room and the communal areas are showing quite a lot of wear. We paid for breakfast which, (apart from truly awful "pancakes" which were bought in from outside and inedible) was very good, served in a nice restaurant with attentive staff. We will try somewhere else for our next visit unless we read that the hotel has received some overdue care and attention.

Christmas market weekend Canterbury

Reception check in staff were very helpful. The bar service was very slow and we were almost charged for drinks we did not order. Unfortunately our dining experience was not great. My fishcakes were served and 15 minutes later, my sister who we were with, was served her meal and then about 10 minutes later while our meals were getting cold, our fries arrived. MY husbands meal was then served and when we had almost finished eating my brother in law got his burger. The food was fine except the fishcakes, very poor quality! No salad the only option was black bean salad - we would not expect this shortage at 7pm on a saturday evening.!

High quality, central Canterbury Hotel

Great hotel in the centre of Canterbury, made it easy to see the town. Good restaurant for evening meal and breakfast. Only downside is very limited parking. We used the park-and-ride and left our car there. Great if you want to be in the centre of Canterbury.

Great location and really beautiful and interesting building, nicely furnished and equipped. I liked the proper hairdryer (rather than a tiny one attached to the wall) and the comfortable bed, plus individual room air conditioning/heating. If you want a modern hotel, this won't be for you, but if you appreciate history, then you'll enjoy your stay. Breakfast is ordered from a menu, rather than a buffet. Good value when included in your room price, but rather expensive if you need to purchase separately. Lovely breakfast, other than the coffee, which I didn't enjoy. Some issues with being charged for the room twice on check in, but was easily resolved the next morning. Also no room key on check in, but again, that got sorted out and delivered to my room very quickly. Lift out of order due to flooding, but I was only on the first floor and have no mobility issues, so no real problem (although it would have been nice if the receptionist had offered to help with one of my bags when he showed me to the room). All in all, a good comfortable stay, but there are a few things they could improve.
