Perfect - except the blonde check in lady!

I wouldn’t normally leave a review but feel this needed mentioning. We turned up to find a group of 5/6 people waiting to check in. The woman behind reception had walked out in a huff and left them waiting there for some time and when she finally returned, she refused to check them in. She asked us if we wanted to check in before them purely out of spite, to which I replied no I’m not jumping the queue as did the people 3rd in line behind us. She then went on a tirade to her colleague about none of us wanting our keys and walked out again leaving us all in hotel reception purgatory for over 30 minutes as there was no one else on site reception trained. Luckily a gentleman on annual leave was in the area and could come in and sort us all out - thank you this was appreciated! This is the only reason I have marked down a star. The rest of the stay was brilliant in every aspect and the rest of the staff couldn’t do enough for us, we got a pint each on the house and complimentary breaky which was great. It seems a shame that one person acting up like that can ruin what would have been a perfectly good stay. The people she refused to serve were kind, well to do people who didn’t deserve that kind of treatment. One of which was celebrating his birthday with family. I hope they’ll be able to laugh about it like we did in the end - but I hope the hotel realise that the blonde lass shouldn’t be in a public facing job like that it was embarrassing and like nothing I’ve ever seen.

Great stay if a little slow on check in

Check in was slow due to the amount of rooms having to be turned. We actually prebooked room but was allocated another amd had to wait for it to be turned over. When enquired our original choice was available. Other than that the hotel as great

Good all round

I’d booked two rooms for two couples - which were very different. I appreciate the property is historic, but one room was very small and cramped with a lowered ceiling. The breakfast was good overall with a lot of choice but just one hot drinks machine for the whole hotel often made for queuing. The restaurant had a good range of dishes which were all delicious and well-made - it was lovely not to have to go out in the evening to find food! The staff were very helpful and friendly and the rooms were clean. It’s close to the centre but in a quieter area.

Lovely and well kept hotel, especially the reception, restaurant and staircase areas. I asked if we could stay at a room in the house, not the courtyard, since the reviews mentioned that those were nice, and the staff helpfully moved us there. Service was excellent overall. The rooms themselves were comfortable and nicely decorated, although there were a couple cobwebs, the TV could do with an update and the body wash and lotion tubs in the bathroom needed a refill. The minibar looked a bit tired too. Other than that, we had a nice, confortable stay.

Hotel is fabulous but I was put into a basement room, which was noisy due to someone having a shower in the room above and the air conditioning fan outside my window.

I booked the George Walton Junior Suite which should have included a pull-out sofa bed in addition to a king-sized bed but was given a deluxe suite instead of the George Walton suite which was a much smaller room. I was charged $366 for one night. An exhorbitant amount for one night! There was no smart TV as advertized and no complimentary robe and slippers as it posted in the write -up room description. I stayed @ this hotel back in March of this year, stayed in the George Walton junior suite for $99 and it was delightful. I am requesting a refund of 1/2 of what I was charged. I asked the lady at the front desk if I was indeed in the room that I booked back in August through Expedia and she said it was NOT the room that I booked and was charged for! I need a refund since the hotel was booked solid and couldn’t change my room!

Pictures were wonderful but that was the best part. Has a pretty reception and dining area. Room attractive but not well maintained. Bedside light broken. Heating did not work so we froze all night.

Disappointed

We stayed at this hotel last year and really enjoyed it however we are disappointed that this year they tried to charge us £17 each for breakfast even though it says £12 on your website. When questioning it we were told it includes service charge. Well I've never had to pay a service charge for breakfast in a hotel especially for a self service breakfast.We eventually agreed to pay £15 even though this was still 25% more than it should have been. Needless to say we won't be staying there next year.
