The Neighborhood:
Holborn has a distinctly Victorian personality and as you walk through the imposing streets of the area, you get a sense of the place as it would have been in the 19th Century, filled with lawyers as well as writers, intellectuals and students. The brilliant and extensive British Museum is just a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Holborn, where you can see artefacts including Roman pottery and the Rosetta Stone for free! What’s more, it’s also in prime position for some of the city’s best smaller museums, including the art-filled Sir John Soane’s Museum; home to a staggering private collection of paintings, sculptures and architectural drawings. Also, there is the fascinating Museum of Freemasonry for anyone interested in this mysterious group and the more modern Museum of Comedy, for anyone interested in that even more mysterious group; comedians.
As far as food and drink goes, Holborn caters for a huge range of tastes. From a light bite to a full blown dinner, you can find the best restaurants in Holborn. Try Barrafina on Drury Lane which serves up scene-defining Spanish dishes or The Delaunay, a classy grand European café, filled with a cool mix of fashion types and old-school business bods. There are plenty more great pubs and bars to choose from in Holborn, such as the Princess Louise with its etched glass decorations. For a concentration of good boutique shops and cafes in one street, head to Sicilian Avenue, just north of Holborn Station. You may recognise this short and immaculately stylish side street from the Wonder Woman movie, but we recommend exploring it for The Holborn Whippet, a quirky and unique ale pub that feels like it is from another era.
Getting Around:
Holborn is the nearest station to the property, just a four-minute walk away. This connects you to the Central and Piccadilly lines, meaning you can get to iconic London sites in no time at all, such as Leicester Square, Oxford street and Hyde Park. A great selection of buses depart from just outside Holborn station towards Waterloo and South London. On the opposite side of the road, you can catch buses to Shoreditch, Hackney and Camden. Exploring London could hardly be easier!
