The first room we were given hadn't been cleaned, the toilet didn't flush and there was no toilet paper!! When I went to tell the reception we were immediately moved to a much better room, with many apologies for the condition of the firstt room.

Liked: Staff & service
The decor was depressingly battleship grey in our below-pavement level room. A few pictures on the walls might have made it look more cheerful. We were, luckily, only booked for 2 nights.
Staff were efficient , but could have been a bit more welcoming. Food at breakfast was good.

Friendly staff ,spacious public rooms, good food service ,excellent position on promenade, just dated rooms but overall very pleasant.
Room was awful, grubby and very basic, quilt was old and dirty with stuffing coming out, mattress was so soggy and could feel springs!, so uncomfortable , we left at 03.55 in morn as could bear it no more, room 225!!
Mattresses in first room badly stained .Mould around bath .Carpet heavily stained .Walls marked .Moved to another room -mattresses were clean but rest of room grubby .The radiator had been removed leaving a gap on wall with pipes and brackets remaining.Curtains off rail and wouldn’t fully close .Noticed what looked like dried blood on chair leg .Only one disabled parking space which is not reservable and was being used by someone with no blue badge .We paid for another parking space which was taken by another resident (Granted this was not the staffs fault as they did put our name on the wall )The staff weren’t rude but weren’t as helpful or friendly as expected and seemed tired of dealing with complaints
For a budget hotel, it couldnt be faulted, have stayed in plenty of more expensive hotels that were lacking in many ways but was very pleasantly surprised with The County Hotel.

Disliked: Cleanliness
The property is old and has some beautiful period features but is in need of a lot of tlc since it is no longer Shearings. The beds were very comfortable and the linen was immaculate; but the shower was horrendous; no water pressure and the cleanliness in certain areas is very sad. Could be beautiful if money was spent on it
We parked directly outside the hotel on the promenade and although the hotel was dated the staff we're friendly and helpfull and the room was great value for money no frills but fine to fall asleep in at the end of busy days
Could be a great place to stay if. It was refurbished cleaner. Entertainment was advertised every night absolutely nothing on at all. Superb staff really helpful and friendly. Breakfast was great good selection and the food was hot and tasty (self service) would we stop there again probably not even though it was very cheap £233 for 4 nights for two including breakfast but really needs a good overhaul
Very dated room with stained floors and walls. Poor lighting and TV didn’t work. Staff were lovely, breakfast was fine, bed was reasonably comfortable. Very thin floors so noisy in the morning when people were moving about upstairs.
Very pleasant hotel. Everywhere was clean and comfortable. Although the hotel didn’t do evening meals the breakfasts were very good.

We enjoyed our stay, the bedroom was nice had sea view, but the bathroom was very tiny and the shower was in need of TLC. The breakfast was good and the staff in the dinning room was lovely.
The only complaint was the lady on reception could be more attentive and smile
Overall the hotel is of a poor standard compared with how it used to be. Standard of some rooms is very poor and others could only be described as adequate at best. The breakfast offering was inconsistent with elements constantly running out and being slow to be replenished if at all. Would we stay there again - NEVER. Would we recommend -NO.
Arrived at the property, parking is very scarce. Lucky to find a space near the property.
Walked in and it seemed very dated, carpets need changing completely. Looked dingy and dirty on first look.
Reception staff were lovely and helpful.
Stayed in a room on lower ground floor. Room was clean. Again very dated, floor boards creaking, window barely opened and when it did there was a lot of noise from people and traffic. Curtains didn't close so had the street lamp shining through all night.
Bath and shower was ok. Coffee and tea making facilities.
Plenty of chairs and storage in the room.
