The House at Crooked End - Boutique property in central York sleeps 8

Crooked End offers space & superb modern comfort in a sympathetically restored & stylish Victorian terrace in the heart of the fashionable Bishopthorpe Road district within easy walking reach of all of York's history, culture, eating and shopping. The property, built in the 1880s has been renovated to a high standard with stripped Victorian floors & period features throughout. This is combined with high end matching contemporary furnishings to offer a wonderful home from home in the city.

Crooked End is located less than a minute's walk from the fashionable Bishopthorpe Road, rated 9th by the Times Newspaper as the trendiest places to live in the UK (2013). The parade of artisan shops, bars, and restaurants won the prestigious national title Great British High Street of the Year (2015).

Bishopthorpe Road lies just to the South of the city centre and is bordered by the ancient City Walls. A short riverside walk takes you into the heart of the city. Nearby is the beautiful Rowntree Park offering stunning lakeside walks and an extensive array of play equipment for children of all ages, including some facilities for children with disabilities.

We had a lovely stay at house at crooked end. The property was spacious and the property was quiet even although next to a main road. We just ended up using two bedrooms as our kids wanted to share the twin room. Property had a bed guard available which was great. Plenty tea and coffee as well as herbs and spices in the kitchen. There was a high chair (not needed by us) and had plastic plates and cups which was great. Kitchen and bathrooms are all very clean and spacious. Plenty of storage space for food, clothes etc. The bath tub was huge kids loved it! Plenty of shampoo, shower gels, bath foam etc available. Loads of nice touches like hairdryer in each bedroom and vanity mirror in the rooms. Little dishes for jewellery and loads of pretty cushions and ornaments. Toys in downstairs cupboards kept kids amused. Brollies in hall etc. lots of other nice touches. Short walk to the walls and we enjoyed walking back this way each night. Some places weren’t open nearby during our stay. However, plenty of places nearby to eat out and very walkable to central York. Few wee minor things that could do with improvement. Bit of a deep clean needed in a couple of places (just skirting boards and the tall boys in the twin room and tv unit in living room as very dusty) and the skirting boards. Absolutely nothing detracted from our stay though!!! Just a note if booking with kids stairs are steep and bannister is not tall so I wouldn’t have booked with really young kids.

Christmas stay in York
The house was great - perfect location for a walk on the city wall or a short walk over the bridge into the city. The kids loved the house and the games cupboard, and it was a perfect size for our party of 7. The host John was great - on Christmas eve the batteries in the thermostat remote went and he came within an hour to fix it. I would definitely stay here again and thanks for being a great host John!

Brilliant time at house at crooked end
I was staying at the house at crooked end with my mum and sister for the weekend. We had a day at the races and a day exploring centre of York and the house was perfectly situated for both. The house is full of character and extremely comfortable. We were lucky that we were able to enjoy the beautiful garden as well. There are loads of lovely cafes/bars nearby and the bakery across the road is perfect for some morning pastries. Would definitely stay again if ever visiting York again.

Traditional House near centre
The owner of the property thought of everything. There were even umbrellas in case of rain as well as a range of teas and coffees. Overall the house was homely. The location was excellent... There were cafes and restaurants just around the corner and the heart of York was only 10 minutes walk away. The only negative was the sticking of the bathroom door which the owner quickly resolved.

What a great place to stay. Close enough to the city centre so you can walk in. Far enough away so not a lot of noise. Everything you needed in the house.

Fabulous Hidden Gem
Brilliant place to stay when in York. John anwered all my pre-arrival queries promptly and in detail. The property itself is spaceous, with a great oudoor seating area (although, unfortunatley it was too cold for us to use it!!!). The decor is to a high standard, and the 2 bathrooms are extremely well done. It was cold while we were in York for the Christmas market, but the house was incredibly warm. The house was very well supplied with all essentials, (and more.) The House is a 10 minute stroll from York Castle, right in the centre of York. It is in the Bishopthorpe Road district, which is exactly as it is in the description. Everything you need is within 5 minutes walk, from a great old pub (The Swan), excellent Indian restaurant (Lal Quila), to butchers , bakers and coffee shops. We will definately be back.
