Mallard Cottage is stuated in the rural hamlet of Esk Valley with views over the countryside from all windows as well as the spectacular sight of the steam locomotives powering up the gradient towards the summit near Goathland. This is an ideal destination for walkers and those who love the great outdoors. There are many wonderful walks right on your doorstep and you can follow the rail trail passed the engine sheds to the nearby station at Grosmont just 1 mile away. Grosmont is a picture perfect village, with a selection of cafés and shops. Following the trail further leads to the neighbouring village of Goathland past the Mallyan Spout waterfall. From here you can take the circular route on foot or you can return by steam train, you may recognise the platform as Hogsmeade from the Harry Potter films. The steam train will take you on an unforgettable journey through rolling hills of heather and valleys of ancient woodlands, it travels between Whitby on the coast and the historic town of Pickering at the foot of the moors.
