The Space:
Artist House is a thoughtfully curated holiday home jam packed with artwork and inspiration. Set over two floors, the house showcases work by the property owner, Diana Scarborough, who is a national and international artist-engineer. With strong connections to the area, you’ll find original one-of-a kind prints and photographs on display throughout the property. Designed and decorated as an artspace and gallery, all artwork is for sale and changes seasonally.
LIVING AREA
On the ground floor, you’ll find an open plan living and dining area. Striking in appearance, the living area features a bold, blue feature wall and a contemporary driftwood sculpture by a local Redcar artist in the fireplace. The ideal place to relax after a day of exploring the local area, you can kick back on one of the sofas and switch on the Smart TV to keep up with your favourite shows. If you’d rather unwind in peace, there is a curated bookcase of art and travel themed books, as well as walking maps.
DINING AREA
The dining area features contemporary seating with a white table and matching chairs. A yellow statement wall brightens the space and the selected artwork has been chosen with the overall interior design to create a chilled zone. The french doors open out into an enclosed yard area.
KITCHEN
To the right, you’ll find the fully equipped kitchen. The modern space features handmade Mexican tiles, yellow glass splashbacks and high-end appliances. You’ll have everything you could need for your self-catering staycation as the kitchen has all necessary utensils and cookware so you can prepare meals easily throughout your stay.
There is also a cloakroom on the ground floor featuring a clean, cool look with white and turquoise tiles and mini succulents.
BEDROOM
Head upstairs and you’ll find three spacious bedrooms and the family bathroom.
The master bedroom has a light blue and gold colour theme to create a truly relaxing space. The comfy double bed boasts premium bed linens and plush bedding so you can enjoy your nights sleep at Artist House. Artworks featured include Skinningrove photographs, and lithograph and triptych etching inspired by ancient messages. An oak dressing table, wardrobe and a curved mirror complete the space.
Along the hallway, you’ll find the second bedroom. This space features a double bed, upcycled bedside cabinets, a wardrobe and artwork inspired by text and analogue radio technology. You can wake up to views of clear skies towards Carlin Howe so you can start your day with the calm you need.
The third bedroom is known as the ‘writers room’. This cosy nook is home to a comfy single bed, original prints and a vintage telephone table. With a warm colour palette of burnt oranges, there is a snug and homely feel.
BATHROOM
Also on the first floor is the family bathroom which has a bath and overhead shower, WC and basin. Featuring a unique artist-designed panel of a walking map showing the coast to the moors and a forest green statement wall, North Yorkshire is certainly rooted here. Hidden away in the cupboard, you’ll find a washer / dryer which is ideal for longer stays.
Guest Access:
Guests have access to the full property. The keys to the property are accessed via a secure key safe.
There is one on street car parking space outside of the property. An additional space can be found in the car park nearby and full details will be provided shortly before your arrival date.
The Neighborhood:
Artist House is located in the small, family friendly town of Loftus which has independent shops and amenities including the award winning Willow Cake Shop, Wold Pottery for arts and crafts and a micro gin bar. If you’re looking to get active during your stay, join the infamous 100 mile long Cleveland Way Trail or venture to Staithes along Boulby Cliffs which is the highest cliff on the east coast! Loftus is also an ideal base for cycling as you will find the Tour de Yorkshire and the Klondike pass by at the end of the road. If you want to partake in cycling yourself, there are plenty of uphill climbs to get your heart racing!
The gorgeous seaside town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea is just a short 15 minute drive away. Here you’ll find golden sandy shores and a bustling town centre. You can take the oldest functioning cliff lift in the UK down to the promenade where you’ll arrive at the 208-metre pier which stretches out into the sea. The beach is overlooked by colourful boutique beach huts, a fish restaurant, arcades and a surf shop making it the ideal spot for a day at the seaside.
Also close to Loftus is the charming fishing village of Staithes. The quaint coastal hamlet was recently named one of Britain’s most beautiful seaside villages. It has high cliffs, winding streets and mismatched cottages bursting with charm. Staithes is a magnet for art and artists alike. Throughout the village you’ll find amazing painted illusions known as the ‘Painted Illusions Trail’ created by the famous artist Paul Czainski. It is also the home to the impressionist art society, known as Staithes Group, and their work can always be seen dotted around. Getting Around:
Artist House is within walking distance of all that Loftus has to offer. It is within 15 minutes’ drive time of Saltburn and Staithes, and 30 minutes’ drive time Whitby so the coast can be easily explored.
The closest train station is located in Saltburn and has routes to Longbeck, Redcar, Middlesbrough and Darlington with connecting trains to Newcastle, York, Leeds, Manchester and London.
There are a number of bus routes throughout Loftus. Hop on the Arriva North East 5 which travels through to Middlesbrough. If you want to explore the coast, take the X4 route and you can visit beautiful coastal villages like Runswick Bay, Sandsend and Whitby.
