Enjoyable stay
Stay was good. Hotel is a little dated but its clean amd the rooms were comfortable. The food in the resteraunt/bar was good. The reception staff were very pleasent and helpful during check in. The bar staff i dealt with were also very friendly and helpful. The only thing I could really complain about is when we ordered food we ordered 2 starters and 3 main courses. These all arrived at the same time and when we questioned it we were told that the kitchen were not aware it was to be brought out at different times which i found very odd, therefore the mains were cold by the time we ate them. Also they came out with our desserts when there was still dirty plates and never cleared the table. Apart from the dining issues the hotel is a good all round hotel and I would stay here again.

Fabulous setting for a hotel. The hotel itself was nice but in desperate need of redecoration. Wallpaper hanging off the wall in the corridor and rooms whilst comfy and adequate do need refreshing.
Old building, very creaky floors. Room was spacious and clean. Facilities weren’t great. Sauna and steam room looked like they’d not worked for years. The pool was ok but the pool and gym building has seen better days and the corridor to them was full of water leaks and smelled foisty. Restaurant and bar area excellent. Great food. Location beautiful on the river. In walking distance to Chester fort. Doubt we would return.
The room was cold and sparsely furnished. The shower was lukewarm on the first night of our stay and cold on the second night. I was unable to complain at the time as there was noone on reception until after our evening meal. The room had little sound insulation and we could hear the conversation and television from the next room. At dinner, one of our meals was completely inedible and had to be returned. I had to change it for a meal that was way more expensive but nothing was taken off the bill.
lovely hotel with comfortable clean rooms and helpful, pleasant staff. Dinner menu quite limited and stayed the same the whole week. That was the only downside to our stay, which we really enjoyed
George Hotel is lovely, but, with one or two exceptions, the staff seems bored and uninterested. Hard to get attention at the bar or restaurant. It seemed like an imposition when I asked a staff member to clear a table do we could sit there.

Disliked: Staff & service
No remote in my room, no towels in my travel companions room, rooms we not made up daily, which I’ve never experienced before, and no telephone in rooms made getting assistance a pain. The hotel was in general nice, bar and restaurant were good, staff were good and the location is lovely. But the poor housekeeping spoilt the stay a little.
We had a very comfortable, relaxing stay during our 3 days hiking Hadrians Wall. Perfect location for access to the wall, clean comfortable accommodation and good food

Great location but rooms poorly refurbished
We had stayed here previously and though rooms a little dated had been comfortable with pleasant staff. The place has been decorated since, but although it looks more fresh we felt the comfort was actually worse. The room refurbishment has not been done well. Beds were not comfortable and need replacing. Bedside lamp not working. Wash basin tap barely turns on. Room door would only close if banged shut with force.
The hotel is in a fabulous position at the side of a river and our room had an amazing view over the garden to the river and bridge. It was a nice spacious room with good contents, from an ironing board to biscuits, and I would be happy to stay there again.
The food was excellent, with good quality food and very good cooking. The Sunday roast was a treat and the breakfast was really good.
