Pros- good location to city, walkable to many shops, restaurants, cafes & bars. They also allowed an early check in after an early morning flight in to the city which was greatly appreciated. Cons- although the room was mostly very clean the room was very small & we found a stain on the mattress. There wasn't any housekeeping service for the 3 nights we stayed here. The room was warm & stuffy, we had to have the fan on high with the window to the alley completely open in order to sleep at all. The window to the room also didn't lock, being on a higher level we were ok but a concern, there also wasn't a screen on the window. No refrigerator is fine with a small room but ice would have helped. We also only had one small trash can. For the location & convenience of a place to sleep and explore the city this would be fine, however, we likely would not choose to stay here again. A good option for a budget hotel overall.

We had a great deal and now I understand why. This hotel was very clean, centrally located and felt safe but it was otherwise very bare bones - cardboard hangers, no furniture other than a bench and a bed; no kettle or coffee maker; no bar fridge, no ice available and no chest of drawers. Yes, coffee was available in the lobby. Our room faced Powell Street and it was very, very loud. The tram car ringing; street musicians plying their trade, giggling tourists till all hours...

I stayed here on a (personal) weekend as part of a business trip. This is a rather upscale "boutique" hotel - one of those converted from a residential property. It's one of the nicer ones I stayed at in the city - the lobby has been recently renovated, and there is an elevator (even if it's a bit slow). The room was small but clean. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom looked recently renovated, but the shower was absolutely tiny (as expected). My biggest complaint about the room is that the single-pane window let in a lot of noise, and the hotel faces a very noisy street! Staff & service: there was *usually* someone at reception, but there was no way to directly contact them from the room. There was no phone in the room, I didn't have a voice plan on my phone, and there was no electronic means of messaging them. This was inconvenient when I couldn't figure out how to turn on the A/C (had to put my key card into a slot), or when I needed some fresh towels. The area: the hotel is close to Union Square and Market St. Powell St itself is very touristy, with a historic cable car line. There were lots of restaurants around, but there wasn't a lot going on at night - hard to find food after 10pm. The area itself felt reasonable safe, but there is a sketchy neighbourhood a few blocks to the west.

The property only offered housekeeping on demand but failed to inform us of that upon check in. They also failed to explain that the elevator required the room key to be scanned to use it as well as to enter the hotel from the street. We Had to figure that out on our own There was no ice machine no room service or restaurant and the room was the size of a closet which was not explained in the description when booking the room. Overall a bit disappointing for the price.

The city is the city so that's not the hotels fault or staff it's inna really good spot for shopping union square is a good hub of downtown but you will get the usual noise and craziness. As for the hotel it's very good nothing fancy but all the things you need onna budget and staff is really nice and they have free water tea coffee and soon a cafe.
