Travel to India
India is the seventh-largest country in the world, offering a dramatic range of landscapes, people, and cultural traditions. The country is remarkably diverse, and no two cities feel the same. With ebookers, you can manage all of the details of your trip, including cheap flights to India or bargain admission tickets for some of the country's most famous monuments.
Airports in India
India has a large network of airports, most of which accommodate domestic flights. Most international travellers will come into one of the country's two largest airports, the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi or the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai. Delhi Airport is located 14 miles outside of the city centre, and Mumbai Airport sits 17 miles from the centre of the city.
Transportation from India's Airports
Transportation in India can be overwhelming, especially for first-time visitors. If you are flying into Delhi, the easiest way to get into the city is aboard the Delhi Metro, which is clean and well maintained. The Airport Express line runs directly to the central rail station in 20 minutes and allows you to avoid the traffic. The fare is 80 rupees. If you prefer to take a taxi, ask at the stand outside of the terminal to ensure that you get a car with a meter. The fare to the town centre is about 220 rupees, and the drive can take up to an hour. If you are flying into Mumbai, taxis are comfortable and convenient. Make sure to get a prepaid taxi from the stand, which should cost no more than 600 rupees to Colaba.
Weather in India
The weather in India can vary dramatically from one part of the country to the next. In most of the country, however, the weather is either hot or very humid-or both. The coolest part of the year in most of the country lasts from November to February, when temperatures stay between 20 and 25°C. From March to October, the weather is hot, with temperatures that can reach to 40°C. June and July are monsoon months in much of the country, and the humidity is high. The biggest exception to India's standard weather patterns is the Kashmir region in the far north. Here, temperatures are cooler year-round, and winters are snowy and cold at high elevations.
Highlights of India
India is a large country with a rich history and offers something for every type of traveller. If you're interested in hiking or mountaineering, head to the northern part of the country to visit the stunning mountains in the Himalayas. For one of the most beautiful train rides in the world, check out the Darjeeling Express. Other popular attractions include the Taj Mahal, the sacred city of Varanasi, the white sand beaches of Goa and the home of Bollywood in Mumbai.
