About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The historic village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area) and is located on the South fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods In Yosemite has over 110 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance of everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!
During your stay at this cabin, you'll be within walking distance of Yosemite Cemetery. A kitchen and 2 bathrooms are available in the cabin.
  • The cabin offers a kitchen, 2 bathrooms, and a fireplace
  • 10 minutes by foot from Yosemite Cemetery and a 4-minute drive from Sierra National Forest
This cabin offers its guests barbecue grills. The front desk is open around the clock.

This Yosemite National Park cabin is smoke free.

Wawona Cabin
Comfortable and clean 2 bd 2 ba cabin for our family of 4 including 2 teens. Cabin is homey, a bit dark and quite hot in August heat! Would be nice to have a ceiling fan in the bedrooms like there is in the living room. With 4 adults, we appreciated having two bathrooms. Kitchen is well stocked. Easy to exchange linens 8-5 at the local lodge. The gas BBQ grill on the large front porch was wonderful for cooking on hot nights at the cabin. Wawona is quite a drive from Yosemite so be prepared for nearly an hour on winding mountain roads both ways there and back. It is very close to Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, however, and we enjoyed a day hike there before horse riding at Yosemite Trails in Fish Camp. Because the cabin is inside the park, we did not have to make reservations to enter Yosemite National Park. Would have been 5 stars except on the morning that we left, the bathtub plumbing backfilled with garbage. We reported it at the main lodge immediately and they dispatched maintenance after we left. Glad that didn't happen during our stay!

Nice old school cabin
Inside the cabin was clean and comfortable. Suggest air conditioner needed for added comfort. Shower #2 is too low, my husband is 6ft and he had to stoop to shower. Step #1 needs extra support, stairs need repair, the deck and stairs need to have a fresh coat of paint. The raccoon end sign needs paint, difficult to see street name from the main road.screen needed on the sliding door. Clear spiderwebs on the deck around BBQ. Remove ricking wood chair, replace with a comfortable chair. Fans in the bedroom if no air.

Pleasant and clean
It was nice to have our first staying out of our home after the pandemia I. This place. We found it very pleasant. No noise, the house was clean, and being in the Yosemite park was very convenient for our walks.

A bit underwhelming
Got there at 4:00 PM which was to be the check in time but the place was not ready until 5:30 PM or so. Generally the cabin seemed a bit run down and not that clean. The show in the mater bath had a brown stain on it and water ran brown for a few minutes before running clean (rusty pipes). For the price they charge they should really freshen up some of the finishes such as the carpet, bedding and window coverings which all seems really old.
