Hale A Kai by Gather or Home by the Sea translated from Hawaiian, is nestled at the end of a quiet neighborhood cul de sac. This recently updated four bedroom, four bath home, is aptly named due to its proximity to the ocean, located just minutes away. The island-inspired decor and bright colors of this accommodation make it the perfect home base the next time you’re visiting the Big Island of Hawai’i.

A large driveway, able to accommodate up to four vehicles, along with pleasing tropical landscaping greets you as you pull up to your Big Island vacation rental. As you step inside, the open-concept living space is vivid and inviting, with colorful island-inspired art pieces hung along the walls. The kitchen contains stainless steel appliances, including a dishwasher, and ample cabinet space that holds all of the tableware and utensils you need to prepare a proper meal. The window above the kitchen sink provides bursts of sunlight that illuminate the space, and the ceiling fan offers substantial airflow to keep you cool while you’re cooking. Enjoy your meals in the cozy breakfast nook, or spread out at the massive dining room table adjacent to the living room. The bright paint colors add to the beachy ambiance of the living room, with its welcoming furniture and large flatscreen TV. Sliding glass doors bridge the indoor living space with the outdoor patio, with more than enough space to gather for a BBQ and dining al fresco.

The primary bedroom comes complete with a King-size bed, access to a sizable outdoor lanai, as well as its own well-appointed ensuite bathroom with double sinks and a shower/tub combo. The second and third guest bedrooms both have plush King-size beds, as well as their own private ensuite bathrooms. The fourth bedroom is perfect for kids, containing two Twin-size beds with a bathroom nearby. All of the bedrooms are equipped with air conditioning with 4-hour timers and ceiling fans, ensuring your comfort on those balmy island nights.

Hale A Kai is stocked with beach gear for snorkeling, bodyboarding, and relaxing on the beach, including a beach cart with wheels to make carrying all of your things to the nearby beach effortless. When you return to your accommodation after a fun day in the sun, clean-up is made easy when you rinse off in the lanai’s outdoor shower, and throw your swimsuits and towels into the washer/dryer in the garage. Spend the evening sprawled in front of the TV, or use the home’s free WiFi to send the day’s best photos to friends and family back home.

Hale A Kai’s ideal location on Kailua-Kona’s bustling Ali’i Drive means that you’re close to dining, shopping, and people watching, but far enough away from the action to appreciate the serenity of this residential area. When you’re ready to explore, walk down Ali’i Drive to lounge on Magic Sands Beach, a mere five-minute walk from Hale A Kai. Then turn around and make your way up Ali’i Drive, where you have the opportunity to search out cultural wonders like Moku’aikaua Church, the first Christian Church in the state, or Hulihe’e Palace, where royalty once resided.

Beautiful home and perfect location
This was the perfect place for our group of two families—8 people in total! One of the highlights for us was the hot tub—it made a huge difference after a long day to sit back and unwind. The 4th full bath helped, especially with so many people constantly needing showers after the beach. The entire place was spotless, with clean linens and lots of bath and beach towels. The kitchen was well-equipped with everything we needed to prepare meals for a large group. Proximity to the beach and surfing + snorkeling made it easy for the kids to enjoy the beach whenever they liked. Overall the place had the perfect vibe for a relaxing, hassle-free getaway!

A great home base for a week
Close to everything. Loved the supplied big bags and chairs to use for the beach in the garage. No stress. Three generations with 4 distinct family units and there were 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms that gave each of us our own space to do our thing, so important when there are so many people/ages/personalities staying together!

Perfect property
We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay for our family of 7 adults. The whole house was clean. All of the linens (including provided beach towels) bathrooms & kitchen were spotless. The decor was tasteful and the kitchen was stocked with all the utensils, pots, pans, etc. we needed for cooking & grilling. A clean sponge, coffee filters, a few rolls of paper towels, trash bags, dish detergent & dishwasher and laundry pods were provided. Basic travel sized soap, body wash, shampoo & about 1/2 week worth of tp. The a/c in the bedrooms was nice, but the ceiling fans in every room provided relief from the heat. Forget Magic Sands. We found amazing snorkeling at Kahalu’u Beach Park which was a short drive away. I would not hesitate to refer friends to stay here and would choose it again if we went back to the big island.

The accommodations were everything we were hoping for and more. Location was perfect for the surfers in the family and the beach was amazing for the rest of us to watch them. The property was managed well, by a company that took care of us and were quick to respond when we needed them. 🌺🌴

This property is in a perfect location. Just a quick walk to the beach and to the trolley that takes you into town where you can shop and find any restaurant/bar. The home is clean and can fit your whole family very comfortable. Highly recommend renting this place for your next family adventure!

Family anniversary celebration.
So much to say. The kitchen is well stocked - everything you could need is there. Well, we did go to Good Will and got a slow cooker. The entertainmnet supplies and beach equipment was nice. Previous guests didn't always clean up the sand. Hopfuly we left it better than we receied it. Management was quick to assist us when we needed it. This home is well equipped if you're traveling with little children. I definitely would recommend this for a group or family gathering.

Nice getaway home!
Conveniently located to the beach but offered privacy! Clean and spacious. We appreciated having basic supplies available and toys to play in the ocean that was within walking distance. Highly recommend for family gatherings!

Family vacay to celebrate Moms 60th
Very close walk to Magic Sands beach. Lots of beach towels, snorkelling stuff, boogie boards, etc for the beach. We enjoyed our stay! Worked well for 4 couples, everyone had their own space. Suggestions for improvement would be adding another fridge for beverages etc for a group of 7 adults it would have been well used! We made things work but noted this would have improved our experience. We were asked to do several loads of laundry to get the towels started but were only supplied with 2 laundry pods. Information on where to recycling would be helpful. We googled and found a place but info on what to do and where To go would be appreciated ❤️ All in all a wonderful stay and we will be back!

Hale a Kai does not disappoint!
We had an incredible time at Hale a Kai. Perfect for families. We made big dinners and enjoyed the yard games and hanging out on the lanai in the evenings. Perfect spot to vacation like a local in comfort and style. Great location, just off the Ali’s, close to beaches, shops, and short drive to just about everything in Kailua Kona. Easy contactless check in and super responsive team. Highly recommend!

50th Wedding Anniversary
Very clean well laid out floor plan. Nice master bedroom downstairs for us old people and 3 nice bedrooms upstairs. Master and one upstairs bedroom had a sofa bed, so property could have easily accommodated 12. Near the airport and shopping. Only negative would be the solar hot water heater. With 9 adults and a baby returning from the beach at the same time, hot water went very quickly. We had to learn to space showers out. There were lots of toys and amenities left in the garage for our use. They were appreciated.

House was exactly how it was described except there is a all house attic fan which helped to cool off a hot house. And a new hot tub which wasn’t in the ad either. We had some plumbing issues also but they addressed it promptly.and had it fixed. All in all our stay with our family was extremely nice and we were all comfortable

Very hot and only w/in "walking distance" to Beach if you like to walk a LOT!
The house was NOT what I would call convenient to any beach. You would have to walk quite a distance along a very busy stretch to get to a tiny, overcrowded spot of sand. The house was extremely hot and the window a/c in the bedrooms are on timers - some would only work for 15 minutes at a time - the most for an hour. The "lush" backyard was bereft of any hedges or trees and had clear sightlines to the neighbors next door. There was a hot tub which no one used because it was soooo hot already. It was so uncomfortable, we left a day early.
