The Vanderwall Cottage is the perfect vacation rental if you want to sip your coffee on the patio 40 feet from the water, play in the calm waters of Sodus Bay and watch the sunset go down over Sodus Point.
The beach-style cottage is decorated in traditional blue and white decor perfect for the location.
The beds were pretty comfortable, however, the comforters could have used a wash. There was enough room for my family of 5 to have our own space.
My kids loved playing in the bay on the dock and we appreciated access to the life jackets for them to use.
We also got out on Terry's paddleboat and chugged around the bay. That was fun!
The plumbing required us to use the bathroom upstairs to go #2, which was kinda annoying - but not a deal-breaker.
Terry Vanderwall was a great host. The cottage was open and ready for us to arrive at our convenience. He was available to us via phone or text at any time we had a question.
The two downfalls to this cottage were the spiders and bugs as well as the lack of central air. Terry told us he sprayed a month before we were there, however my daughter was covered in spider bites after the first night sleeping there. The spiders were crawling everywhere and came out more at night. The screens on the windows kept out some bugs, but they were also covered in them. There were cobwebs in every corner of the house, under furniture, etc. I understand it's a cottage - however for the price we were paying for the 6 days we were there I expected to not have to worry about bugs and spiderwebs.
There were a few fans in the cottage - however, when it got into the upper 80s, the cottage was uncomfortably hot.
Overall, it was a great location perfect for what our family needed. I recommend it to anyone who comes to Sodus Point looking for a prime location.
Thanks for having us Terry!
