The Country House: Breathtaking Sonoma Mountain Retreat

Welcome to The Country House, a hidden gem perched atop Sonoma Mountain with unrivaled views of the Sonoma Valley. This stunning three-bedroom, three-bathroom retreat offers an unparalleled escape into the heart of wine country.

Upon entering, you’ll be captivated by the Great Room's grandeur, featuring a majestic fireplace, a grand piano, soaring vaulted ceilings, and elegant décor. Expansive sliding glass doors lead to a spacious deck, the perfect spot for savoring a glass of wine at sunset, enjoying a leisurely breakfast, or curling up with a book while taking in panoramic vistas of vineyards and mountains. Multiple outdoor dining areas enhance your experience of this breathtaking landscape.

A lofted library and office overlook the Great Room, offering a serene space for work or reading. Adjacent to this, the cozy television room, adorned with leather furniture and rich fabrics, invites you to unwind and enjoy your favorite shows.

The fully-equipped kitchen is a culinary haven, featuring a professional range, side-by-side refrigerator and freezer, and ample prep space. At one end, a table area offers spectacular views, making it an ideal spot for year-round coffee moments.

The formal dining room, which seats ten, is complemented by two sets of French doors that open onto a charming patio with views of a tranquil canyon.

The master suite is a luxurious retreat with a regal fireplace, a king-sized bed, and a master bath boasting a jacuzzi tub with valley views, a spacious double shower with bench seating, and a bidet. The second bedroom features a queen-sized bed and French doors leading to a serene outdoor patio. The detached third bedroom offers a queen-sized bed, a full bath, a kitchenette, and a treadmill.

Descend from the back deck to discover a cozy sitting area with a fire pit and lounging chairs. A few steps further lead to a hot tub on a small deck, perched to capture the stunning views while you relax. Follow the path around the hill to find the spectacular pool area. This large square pool, with its cascading waterfall, is complemented by a pergola-covered dining area, large couches, a dining table, and a built-in outdoor kitchen.

The Country House is truly one-of-a-kind, offering a perfect escape in the serene wine country. Please note that the home is situated at the top of a winding, steep one-lane road, making it unsuitable for limousines or wine buses. If you seek tranquility and seclusion high above Sonoma, this is the ideal retreat for you.

Dogs are welcome with prior approval and a pet fee. The property is equipped with a home generator backup system for your peace of mind.

Just fabulous!
We loved this place! Well worth the stay. We hired a driver to pick us up and drop us off every day to go to wineries, and although it was far away from everything was totally worth waking up every morning to the beautiful views, the beautiful sunset, the beautiful sunrise, and we even got to see hot air balloons bobbing up and down through the fog on the valley below. The swimming pool was absolutely amazing, it is heated, but make sure that you locate the pool cover button to be able to access it. We got great use of the hot tub as well! We are already making plans to revisit the same listing next year.

Stunning Views
If you are looking for a great location and serenity, this property hits the mark! The views are spectacular and the home is very peaceful. The terraced property invites you in to times of reflection and relaxation. There is an extensive library for those of you who enjoy a good book. The home and pool could use some updating/maintenance. Air conditioning doesn’t adequately cool down the home in higher temperatures.

Great Place - needs a little upkeep
Great house, great views, does feel that some of it hasnt been maintained for a number of years, as the main couch in the living room was shedding feathers all over the place and much of the other furniture was somewhat shoddy

Top of the world views
We stayed here for five nights over the Labor Day weekend. Our goal was to have wine tasting in Napa for two full days and a partial day in between. The house location is amazing! The views are incredible and it's pretty great to wake up and have a huge view of the valley floor. The house amenities are quite good. It could use a little updating in different areas, but overall, we had everything we needed. The grounds are extensive and nicely maintained. Lots of green and lots of space that you felt like the home just continued forever. The only concern was that the road is very steep and very long. It's not long in terms of miles, but it take awhile to go up the hill. Don't let that keep you from booking because the views are so great!

Bask in the Sunshine/ sunset haven!
Outstanding views of Sonoma Valley, breathtaking sunsets and relaxation by the peaceful secluded pool. We loved it! Lots of steps on the property which leads you to beautiful spots but not for those that are not fully mobile. Kitchen well equipped with everything functioning well. We would definitely go back!

Amazing Stay!
Stayed for 10 days. 3 adults and 2 dogs. House is beautiful, well maintained, and very comfortable. The deck and the view are simply amazing. Great internet connection - was able to work remotely no problem. Drive up was a little challenging but not too terrible. My wife who is very prone to motion sickness handled it just fine.

The Best Kind of Remote
Wow. At a time when we are all still either staying home or close to, this was the best remote vacation ever. A good 10 minutes UP from the main road, the road is not for the weary. And don't forget the milk as you won't want to go back to the store. But the steep mountain road makes for great exercise in the morning. The home is really something. The views make you feel on top of the world. The outdoor spaces provides sun, shade or protection from the wind. You can just move around all day depending on the weather. The pool, although cold is so wonderful and the trellised jasmine on the terrace welcomes you with gorgeous aroma. The hot tub is also perched on the hillside with beautiful views and so relaxing. The home is very welcoming and kitchen well appointed. It is the perfect place for cooking, dining and having quality time with family and friends. Mornings were spent hiking at near by areas, poolside in the afternoon and either cooking or going out to the fantastic local restaurants. The management makes it very easy, good communications and they have great recommendations if needed. The pool furniture and some of the indoor furniture could use a little love and replacement. But if you are looking for a place to write your memoir and enjoy truly being away from it all, The Country Home is the place!!

Best view ever!
Not exaggerating, this property has hands down the best view of any rental I've stayed at. Perfect spot to relax with a glass of wine and a few friends, great fully equipped kitchen, total privacy. It feels like you're a world away; even though Santa Rosa is just over the hill, all you see is the ridges all the way to the ocean. One caveat, this place is for relaxing, and there isn't any large open space or hiking, just the lovely lawns and gardens around the house, so if you're bringing a dog, be aware that the road in is the only option for a walk, and it's very hilly! We definitely look forward to coming back here sometime.

Fabulous views!
The house was perfect for our family. The views were fabulous. The road was pretty steep, but nothing to worry about. Each time we went out we got more used to the route and it wasn’t an issue. The location is in the perfect place. You can easily travel to Napa and Sonoma. We stopped in Sausalito on the way from SFO, for lunch also. Beautiful scenery and a great house with everything you need. We went on the wine train and visited vineyards - Sterling and Sebastiani. We enjoyed a trip to Sonoma town also. Perfect five night get away for us and our grown children. The Glen Ellen market was great for gathering our groceries on the way up to the house. Five stars!

Besides the rough ride to the top of the mountain, this property is fabulous for a group that wants to see Sonoma from above! Amazing view. Large deck areas, big kitchen for hosting and preparing large meals, pool and hot tub are also a plus!

Absolutely Amazing View and So Relaxing!!
Best place to stay in Napa/Sonoma if you want to get away and relax. We shared this property with two other couples and everyone was blown away when we arrived at how spectacular and spacious the house is. And the view is priceless!! We even cancelled dinner out one night to cookout and relax at the pool. Everything you need is in the kitchen. Nearly any spice and condiment as well. The Glen Ellen Market has all the food, ingredients and wine you will need for any meal you desire. Yes, the ride up was a little steep – but we all got used to it and it is well worth it! We have already recommended this place to some friends. Can’t wait to come back. And oh, the pool was amazing – quiet and private. The best!!

Incredible Property
The pictures look great, but they actually don't do it justice. The views are breathtaking! The whole property is well taken care of and is really the perfect retreat. It has the best stocked kitchens out of any property we've ever rented. It has all the pots, pans, dishes, cooking utensils/gadgets that you could possible want. We also really appreciated the high quality knives since we cooked up a storm while we were there. The pool and hot tub are great and a perfect way to spend the day. Lastly, we really enjoyed working with Woodfield Properties. They provided timely and detailed information leading up to the trip. They are extremely professional and we felt very well taken care of. We hope to make a visit to this property an annual tradition.

Don't waste your money!
If you are like most people and you expect that paying $$$$ should give you a super clean house, don't stay here! The house is disgusting-the bathrooms had not been cleaned for a long time-toothpaste stains, toilets were gross, dirt and debris and scum all over master shower and main shower/tub. The kitchen had not been cleaned-paper towel came away black from counter wipe over, the bedrooms were full of dust and the carpets had not been vacuumed, there was trash in the second bedroom, dead bugs all over the house. Yellow jacket nests out front, we could not eat out on deck because of them swarming around. House is NOT safe for dogs or kids because of a rattle snake problem and yellow jackets, and deck is NOT closed off as stated by property managers. You can't see out of the windows in second bedroom, and there is black dirt all around the frames and on the walls beneath them. There are only four cereal bowls in entire house, not enough for three people let alone the 6 or 8 it is supposed to sleep. No bath mats. No information on how to work pool cover, waterfall, where light switches are for all the different outdoor lights. A/C wasn't turned on before we arrived and master bedroom was 90 degrees - not ok for my aged parents. And if you still decide to book this house, be sure to get the address before you pay so you can see just how far away from everything it is, and check out just how crazy steep the driveway is because unless you have a powerful SUV you may not make it. None of that was explained to us. Yes, it is a house on property so sometimes you have some bugs but there shouldn't be as many as there were when the house was supposedly cleaned two days before we got there. The property is not taken care of as it should be and in no way is it worth the money.

Wow! We knew from the photos this place would be awesome but in reality totally blew us away!
As you make your way up the winding tree lined driveway you get the sense you are heading to someplace special.....and you'd be right! Once you walk through the front door into the great room the panoramic views are priceless! We came to Sonoma to enjoy the vineyards but found that we were equally excited to get back to the Country House. The wraparound deck with all of the seating options is where our family began and ended each day. Actually, one of our sons started each day watching the sunrise while sitting in the Jacuzzi. We ate most of our meals at the Country House which was made easy because of the well equipped kitchen and the outdoor grills. We highly recommend shopping at the Glen Ellen Market as we found this place to have a good variety and high quality products. The pool was a huge hit with our family and the Jacuzzi and koi pond nooks were nice additions to our experience. Overall, the Country House was comfortable and inviting. We would highly recommend this property to any group looking for a slice of heaven in wine country!

Can we live there?
My wife and I absolutely loved our stay. As others have written, everything about the home and grounds exceeded expectations. The home is up atop quite a hill, but is totally worth the climb! Wish we did not have to leave at the end of our stay and will undoubtedly be back for a return visit.

Private, fantastic views, spacious, well-appointed
We rented this property for a holiday with a total of three couples. Everyone was very pleased with their respective rooms. We cooked two dinners using the BBQ on the main deck and the oven in the kitchen. We had all the dishes, utensils, bowls, plates, glasses and even some cooking ingredients we needed and ate outside while listening to music and enjoying the view. The star fall after the sunset was great! We had two dinners in Glen Ellen which is only a 15 minute drive away. Highly recommend both the Glen Ellen Inn and the Fig Cafe for a meal. The Glen Ellen Market has all the food, ingredients and wine you will need for any meal you choose to make at the property. 30 minute drive to The Town of Sonoma. Look into Uber if you want to enjoy the wine without concern about drinking and driving. Not as convenient to see places in Napa Valley; between 45-60 minutes each way to get to Napa depending on where you are going. 45-60 minutes to Hot Air Balloon ride departure sites and the Russian River Kayak & Canoe site. If a spectacular view and the option of making your own meals is part of the plan, you can do far worse than renting The Country House. Definitely recommended!
