Booked Santa Maria Inn at the last moment due to the change of traveling plan, which turned out to be much better than we anticipated. We stayed in 2 Queen Bed unit and the unit was well maintained and quite even though some parts of the hotel show wear. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.

Bringing in 2025 at The Santa Maria Inn
This trip was not planned. We deceied to get away for a couple of days. San Luis Obispo was our original destination. However, when looking for places to stay, The Santa Maria Inn popped up. We loved the reveiws and booked. Homey warm feeling, great friendly patient staff. We will definitely visit again.

This famed historic hotel has hosted many significant and important guests (including Rudolph Valentino, Marilyn Monroe, President Hoover) and looks like it. As in, it is very old and many parts of the hotel show wear. The carpet in our room was dirty and stained, and smelled stuffy. Keep that in mind when booking! If you don't mind an older, well-worn hotel, the decor is very kitschy and interesting. Bed itself was fine, and there was a TV. Plenty of parking. The pool and hot tub did not seem maintained, but I went in winter, so summer may be different. Great price for a historically significant hotel.

The Santa Maria Inn was located centralized around restaurants for breakfast lunch and especially for dinner. There was plenty of parking in front of the hotel plus they have a parking structure, which was located next to the entrance to the hotel. we would stay there next time we’re in the area.

The good: An excellent price for a 1 night stay between Xmas and New Years, good bed, room was quite clean and reasonably large, occasionally one heard noise from other rooms but not excessive, check-in was fast, parking is easy, heater in room was excellent, decorations around public areas fun. The not so good -- toilet plugged up a bit following use (I suspect older pipes dating many decades), hot water to shower never got really hot after a few minutes of wait at 7:30 AM in morning. But the most irritating was the superposition of a 50$ deposit over the room price that according to the checkout agent will not be refunded for up to 5 working days. In a day of microsecond and faster communication, holding the deposit for more than 1 day is absurd and I can only conclude the hotel is taking advantage of the "float" on the funds. All in all, if you get a good price, the hotel is fairly good and if they would eliminate their slow return of deposits my other complaints are pretty minor.

Absolutely gorgeous building and design. Very comfortable room and the amenities were amazing. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Ask and ask the whole experience was amazing!!! We will be back.

Terrible property.
The property and the rooms smelled pretty bad. The. The carpets in the room were dirty. Everything seemed like unclean. Our room had constant vibration and after requesting we changed to another room. I don’t know how can this property have a 8.4 rating on Hotels.com. Overall terrible experience.
