The hotel is beautiful. Very elegant. First class. During my visit the service union that serves the hotel was on strike and picketing outside the hotel entrance. They were horrible! Shouting loudly and banging on metal oil cans from 6am to 10pm. They were obnoxious. It is hard to have sympathy for them. The hotel was otherwise first rate.

There were striking workers in front of the property beating drums all day and into the evening. While I support unions and strikes for fair wages and benefits I was startled when I checked in. But that was minor compared to the elevators often did not work or were malfunctioning. I spent 15 minutes in the lobby at 10:45am waiting for an elevator we ultimately were put on the service elevators to get to our rooms this occurred twice. Also the cleaning of my room only occurred once and my stay was from Wednesday to Sunday.

The hotel is beautiful, love the architecture, historic vibe. My room was lovely and the bed was comfy. The only thing was my wall was next to the elevator. Like literally wall to wall so the noise from the elevator going up and down was bothersome. didn't hear it during the night but early in the morning and during the day when I was in the room trying to rest or work. The protesting noise outside didn't effect my room only when you would go outside or in the parking garage. The drumming was deafening.

Still a solid overall stay
We were back in San Fran for the annual ASC conference; our last time here was Nov. 2019. Amidst the current strike -- which did impact the overall quality of our stay -- we were still able to fully participate in our conference while also enjoying the city itself. Our room was great and the hotel staff was amazing, especially when the elevators - from time to time - sporadically went out of service. That, in addition to the ongoing strike, made for a truly 'mixed-bag' experience.

This property at one time was probably A1,, but with the workers outside beating on the drums chanting that they need more money it really would ruin the comings and goings from the hotel and to the hotel I feel that the staff should be paid what they’re asking for. San Francisco is not a cheap city to live in Cost-of-living is going up constantly and so should pay grade. We were there for five days and we never got our room cleaned or our bed made. The Westin Marriott needs to give their workers a raise in pay. The elevators were working half the time, when my husband and I first arrived. They gave us keys to a dirty room. We went up to the room and the bed was unmade and the bathroom, had towels on the floor. It was pretty shocking. You could hear the striking staff outside beating drums at 6 o’clock in the morning. Protesting untill late in the evening.
