Our luxury Beachfront estate has 4 beachfront one-bedroom suites and a garden / wetlands view two-bedroom Ohana. The Space:
The 2-bedroom Ohana (Family Suite) at AlohaAKU is the largest and most private suite available, offering 950 sqft of living space. The 300 sqft covered private lanai sits high among the palms, giving a treehouse-like feel. Located upstairs above the property's storage garages, the Ohana overlooks the State-protected La'ie wetlands and the lovely gardens. "Aloha Aku," meaning "the place that gives love and kindness," is a luxury beachfront private estate formerly known as Aikane Hale. It features four beachfront one-bedroom suites and a garden/wetlands view two-bedroom Ohana. Each suite has a private entrance, a separate living room, and a full kitchen, offering a condo-like experience at the beach in Maui. The estate is hidden behind a double-gated entrance lined with 700 ft. of lighted coconut palms, creating a secluded feel while being centrally located in Kihei. Guests have described Aloha Aku as "the most tranquil and ultimate place for relaxation," with a peaceful ambiance and an underused, private-feeling beach accessible from the property or neighboring homes and condos.
Nestled behind the tallest mangrove forest in the state, Aloha Aku welcomes guests with natural Hawaiian beauty and is perfectly situated for access to mid-Kihei’s amenities. It's an ideal base for exploring Maui, just twenty minutes from the airport and within walking distance of groceries, shopping, pupu bars, eateries, bars, car rentals, dive shops, and more. Some guests find it so comfortable that they never leave the property, preferring to lounge on their private lanai or on the beach.
Hosts Charlene (Maui-girl) and Gary (G-kane) have upgraded all suites with air conditioning, ceiling fans, free high-speed Wi-Fi, free designated on-property parking, key codes for access (no keys or cards to worry about), and flat-screen HD TVs with DirecTV in the living rooms and bedrooms. Guests can prepare snacks or meals in their fully equipped kitchens, cool off in the ili-ili (smooth) stone dipping pools, or enjoy the Jacuzzi while watching the stunning sunsets. A gas barbecue is available on site, nestled between acacia palm trees overlooking the La'ie wetlands.
Part of the lawn stretching out towards the beach is county-owned and open to the public, but the protected wetlands beside the property help create more privacy and a sense of seclusion.

Perfect!
The Ohana Suite was perfect in every way for our group. It was right off the beach, so you could walk along or sit whenever you wanted and watch the whales and sea turtles. The grocery store and other restaurants are close by so you could walk or have a short drive to anything important. It also made a good base for exploring for us. We never went inside the main house or used the other amenities because the setup at the suite and beach were so good. It was super easy to find and access. It was just as it was pictured. We are already planning another trip back!

Even better than expected
We were a group of 4 moms on a getaway. We were all impressed that the Ohana Suite was even nicer in person than portrayed by the photos. The beds were soo comfy, and bedding nice. Probably the most comfortable beds I've had at a rental. We had a blast using the SUP and kayaks. We all would like to return here some day!

Lovely place to stay
I would stay here again, it was a great property. Nice beach, quiet, property manager took care of all our needs. My only complaint is that there was a party that took up all the parking spots. We arrived home after a long day of driving to find nowhere to park and the hot tub, which I was looking forward to a nice soak in after that drive, closed. A heads up would have been nice.

Aloha Aku is an amazing establishment.
This place is so beautiful. The entire property is manicured perfectly. The ease of access and availability of amenities are perfect for anyone. They literally have everything that we could not pack or forgot to bring with us. We had so much fun staying in the Ohana suite. Everyone that works at the aloha aku were incredibly nice and helpful when we had questions about anything. It was a true home away from home experience. With only 5 total units on the property the size is perfect keeping it personal, private, and separated from the big crowded resort feel. We got to enjoy over 200 whale sightings and many more turtle sightings. We had a large female turtle join us on shore and laid 12 ft from us in the sun for 2 hours! We will be visiting again as soon as our life’s back home will allow it. Thank you so much Charlene and Gary for having such an amazing place and sharing with us.

I need new glasses!
Well, the Ohana was clean. The couch is a futon. ‘Nuff said. Beds comfy. The extras, such as coffee and milk, came in handy. Somehow, I’m my mind, I thought we were on the water. Nope. Behind the main building in an apartment. Okay, fine. I didn’t understand that. Disappointing. The ocean comes into a cove. It’s lovely. The ocean floor is very rocky. Make sure you have surf shoes. The pools/jacuzzi are right in front of the single condos patios. Awkward. There is a huge front yard. A pool for the windy afternoons would have been nice. No one uses this huge expanse of grass. Mahalo and Aloha.

Amazing
From start to finish, one of the best places we have ever stayed in. You felt as if you had the place to yourself. If you needed any, just call or text. Rooms were comfortable, spacious, cool, reasonable. The beach was in your backyard or a beautiful wading pool and jacuzzi waited for you. All the beach toys you could think of at your disposal, at no extra cost! Breakfast was always available from fresh fruit- mangoes from their tree, apple bananas, homemade muffins and quick breads, danishes, and Maui Maid juices. Laundry onsite at no extra charge! A great and wonderful place!

Great Vacation
Very good experience. The property was very clean and well cared for. Only a few steps from the ocean and it felt very private. The a/c unit in one of our bedrooms was not working so they had a small portable unit a little bit louder than the other one but very efficient. We stayed for 8 days and enjoyed every minute of it. The banana bread was wonderful. We would certainly recommend for anyone looking to stay in a resort quality property without the crowds.

Our second time staying here and can’t wait to go back
I can’t say enough about this property and our experience both times we’ve stayed. On each visit there have been special touches to the room to really make you feel welcome and give that “home away from home” feeling. It’s clean, private and has all the amenities you could need. We stayed in the 2 bedroom casita which is very spacious and included towels, beach towels, coolers, soap and all the kitchen supplies. The fridge included some morning treats that went great with the included coffee. While this casita doesn’t have an ocean view it is supplemented with beautiful lush landscaping and your own private patio with table and lounge chairs. The beach is not far at all. In the common area you will find beach supplies, chairs and umbrellas. I forgot water shoes and was able to borrow some. They make it so easy! The staff is super friendly. We loved ending the day with the sunset in the jacuzzi. Kihei is a great location on the island. I would highly recommend staying here. I can’t imagine a better place. Thank you for everything and we can’t wait to return.

Beautiful location on a quiet beach
We had a very nice stay in the Ohana Suite of this property. The property is right on a quiet beach with a beautiful view of the water and sunset. Walking distance to some great restaurants (Nalu's, Coconuts). The birds in the morning were amazing to listen to. Our children had a great time in the hot tub, pool, and beaches. Only complaint would be the not entirely private bathroom experience in the rooms.

Great location and very pretty property
The suite we stayed in was perfect for Thanksgiving, as it was large and had plenty of room for hosting. It is right by the beach and the large grassy back was excellent for hanging out. The kitchen could have been a little better equipped with more plates, glasses and silverware. I would definitely stay there again!

A cross between B&B and beach cottage with classic Hawaiian feel, a secluded inn right on the ocean
After looking at the pictures and descriptions of Aloha Aku we were pretty sure that we would have a good experience. After spending a week there it's hard to find adequate words to express how delighted we were! Char and Gary run this charming cross between a B&B and a beach cottage with so many thoughtful details and surprises. I know not everyone is celebrating a special day but we were - our 30th wedding anniversary - and when we entered our room there was a lovely card and a gift basket! The feel of the place is what seems like "old Hawaii" - like you stepped back in time (not old like run down - Char and Gary spent two years renovating the inn). The result is a very relaxed environment where it is easy to unwind - one sees very little nearby development, due in part to the adjacent wetlands (an unadvertised treat is the morning parade of ducks when the maintenance guy comes to feed them in the morning!) This is in stark contrast to some resorts that all seem to come out of the same box (not that there's anything wrong with that if that's what you're looking for). In summary, Aloha Aku is an amazing place in an amazing place. You'll probably have to book well in advance of your stay as it is a small property - part of its charm - we hope to be able to return some day.

Returning Guests With High Praise
Would stay here again without hesitation. Char & Gary have a beautiful, immaculately maintained, cozy & comfortable, quiet, right-on-the-beach property. They provide paddle boards, kayaks, bicycles, beach chair & umbrellas for guest use. The common area has a well stocked frig & pantry with lots of supplies & goodies so you don't have to buy them. Her banana bread is delicious by the way and there are always small loaves in the frig to enjoy. Within a 5-10 minute walk you'll find the grocery store, lots of restaurants and shops, a 24 hr Long's Drug, a dive shop, Kihei Post Office, ACE Hardware and the list goes on. You can walk the beach in either direction from AlohaAKU. The spa is unique-it's got a neat waterfall feature that circulates the hot water into the spa then it goes into 2 long wading pools on either side of it. If you need indoor workout there's a rowing machine/stationary bicycle. Access to a computer/printer, a nice library of books for reading. All in all an outstanding place to stay!!

Most amazing experience!
I have been to Maui many times in the last twenty years. I have never experienced the level of hospitality that I did with Charlene and Gary. The stay was memorable and I cant see myself staying anywhere else when I visit Maui. This couple is a class act and very very kind and generous, and they are Amazing people and I am fortunate that I made two very good friends staying with them. I would recommend Aloha Aku 110%. Perfect family location
Spent 8 days here my husband and I, son and daughter in law and grandson. This was a perfect family Ohana House. Everything you could possibly need was provided If it was not in the Ohana kitchen, it was in the common room . Everything from snorkels, boogie boards, golf clubs, beach chairs, food, filtered water, sunscreen and medical supplies, etc. etc. Not to mention a huge library of books and videos. And workout equipment. The setting was ideal with beach. ocean, turtles, and the wetlands and birds. I could go on and on. There were also 4 lovely units on the beaachfront for couples. Location was perfect and close to all shopping. The long driveway in created an oasis of calm, and no traffic noise. We will be back. Mahalo Dian Brian, Christian, Jess and Ben.

Quiet, private slice of paradise
The Aloha AKU Ohana Suite was a delightful place to stay for 10 days. There are no units next to, above, or below this two-bedroom, two-bathroom suite, which made it very private and quiet. The owners accommodated a special request I had in a very thoughtful and generous manner. The beautiful beach was literally around the corner. I borrowed beach chairs a few times to sit out there and read. I walked the beach a lot and often saw turtles in the water and out on the beach. The owners graciously provide complimentary food (including yummy banana bread), fruit, and drinks for every day of your stay. You park down a long, gated driveway, which seemed very secure. A great variety of pretty birds live near to and sometimes on the property. I didn't use the bikes and kayaks as much as I thought I would, but I did borrow snorkeling equipment, which was very nice and helpful. The wifi worked as well, and the DVD collection in the "library" was very impressive. I would love to stay here again!

Excellent!
The living room and kitchen were great for family or friend gathering but the lanai was unbelievable . The beds were comfy and th air conditioners were quiet and efficient. We loved the view of the pond. I liked the size of the bedrooms in the lower units better but the Ohana was truly the best option for us once my son arrived from law school... plenty of room to spread out.

Better than our high expectations!
This is a lovely and well-maintained property, in the perfect location to find all that Maui has to offer. The complex is directly on a beautiful, sandy, west-facing beach which is visited by turtles regularly. The owners offer so many amenities including food for breakfast and snacks, and sports equipment and beach chairs that are in good working order. The pools are lovely, and better than expected based on the pictures we had seen. All in all a great place in a great central Maui location. Note: as of February 2017 you need a reservation to see sunrise on Haleakala. We did not know this, so I'm telling everyone!

A home away from home
We arrived early and the room was already ready. We started in the suite which is roomy and has an awesome lanai and it is so quiet. The views are the greenery around the lanai. As much as we loved that we were very happy when we moved to the Hana suite. This one is smaller but it faces the ocean. Morning, evening, mid day the ocean is always just a glance away. We made a lot of use of the kayaks, the snorkel gear, the chairs and the hot tub. We thought about using the golf clubs, but I don't do full courses and there are no par three so we managed to do without golf. Linda, Wade, Jose, Char and Gary are there to make your vacation great. Any question or request was answered quickly and with a smile. I mentioned the tea was getting low and next day there was plenty to choose from. Coffee drinkers have lots of choices, always!!! The rooms are clean, the grounds are maintained, the pool is all you need to sit and watch the sunset or read a book. The beach is a short walk across the grass and we spent plenty of time playing in the water, walking up and down the coast, paddling out and surfing back in. We found the double kayak a real tub and preferred the singles. Not many others used these so they were always there when we wanted to go out. Some days were calm and some windy, but never a bad day. The first day there we saw the turtles who make their home along this stretch and then we saw a shark. The black dorsal fin moved back and forth off the beach for about 15 minutes, but that was the only time we saw one. The water was a little murky here most of the time, but we found other places to snorkel for the fish. We enjoyed the cereal, fruit, yoghurt and baked goods for breakfast and grabbed some groceries from the Times market and Safeway and did our own cooking. The two nights we ate out we walked out to Na Lu's and Coconuts we were stuffed to the gills with very good food. This location is very central to exploring all areas of the Island and we did just that. I left my book in the library for someone else and we found a few movies to pop into the DVD player as we were not big night life fans. We would rather take advantage of the early morning sunshine and get on the road or the beach. We also enjoyed the bioluminescence on the beach at night, the quiet star gazing away from all the light pollution, the frogs/toads on the lawn at night and watching the kids Ukulele class on the beach. So much to enjoy just steps from your door. LOVED IT!

Nice, clean, comfortable! Loved the paddleboards, kayaks, body boards and turtles the most! Two bathrooms with showers was handy! Couldn't get music to play....futon had an issue we had to fix (told the grounds keeper) .... and got locked out twice because the batteries in the keypad went bad. Overall, really fun girls' vacation! !
