We had an overall great stay at Honua Kai. It was the perfect place for our large family to gather. We ended up renting three condos and it was perfect. If it weren't for some communication difficulties, I would've given this property 5 stars without a second thought.
The condos are undergoing painting on the balconies that prevents you from using them. It honestly wasn't a big deal, we still had a great view. Some properties chose to put this in their listing, however this one did not notify us until after we booked. They did comp us a significant portion off of our nightly rate which I would give five stars for, but I would've appreciated the transparency up front. I also felt like a lot of my questions took repeated emails to get responses to. Each morning on my trip was spent trying to sort through the emails they'd sent and working with their outdated payment processor to try and pay for a simple rollaway bed. It's been over 2 weeks since our trip and I'm still not sure if the payment went through--I was told someone would look into the technical issues and get back to me during my trip, but I still haven't heard anything and hopefully I wasn't charged a late fee.
Overall, the trip was great, but the one less star is for the amount of time I feel I had to spend during my trip on my email, trying to get questions answered/billing errors fixed. Their customer service was very kind and respectful, they just didn't always follow up when they said they would.
