Remote retreat
The house and property are gorgeously perched atop a dune on the shores of Lake Michigan. There is more than ample space and the direct access to the beach via several steep flights of stairs is well worth the effort to climb back up. Due to the remote nature of this property, you cannot count on WiFi or cell phones. The WiFi and house phone were out during our entire stay, and the only way to communicate with the property management company was to get into a car a drive out to the main road. This situation made me fearful in the event that we required emergency assistance, as we were cut off from communications with the rest of the world. This problem with the WiFi is likely the cause of the numerous failed attempts to reset the door combination to allow my initial access to the property which took several tries and drives out to the main road before we were able to access it. Once inside the property, the house layout and furnishings are quite nice. While we didn’t have the full suite of amenities we were hoping for, we enjoyed an unplugged weekend in this beautiful house.

Great property on Lake Michigan
This is a beautiful property and home right on Lake Michigan. Great views and sunsets especially from the lower deck. There was abundant space with a well-stocked kitchen and bathrooms. More blankets would have been welcomed. Plastic wine glasses were a plus and having light dimmers was nice. There could be better lighting in the living room area and the deck levels could be better marked to prevent missteps. We found a few maintenance issues such as some mold in the bathrooms and a loose handle in the upstairs shower. The front door was very hard to open due to sticking and we almost couldn’t re-lock the sliding door to the deck off of the kitchen. Critter noises heard in the walls, but fortunately no critter sightings. Almost no cell phone service which we were warned about but Wi-Fi worked great in the house. We were unsure when leaving whether to strip the beds or not due to different instructions in the email and at the house. The road to the property felt a bit treacherous and we weren’t sure what we would have done if we had met another car.

The house was nice but totally worth the view and the beach was amazing. Loved that it was off the beaten path. The house needs a little TLC but it is beautiful. Everyone loved it and had a great time.

Older home that is comfortably furnished. Plenty of room for a large group. Tucked away in the forest right on the water. Full kitchen and bbq outside. Might want to bring your own camp chairs because the ones provided are worn out. I would stay there again.

Third time at Heron Creek
This was the third time in the last 4 years we've vacationed at Heron Creek. We are a family group of 8 people who have been coming to the Saugatuck area each summer for over 15 years. Heron Creek is the third property we've used, and we've always had really enjoyable vacations there. Some things have changed over that time. The house is beginning to look a little shabby on the outside; needs some paint and external repairs. There is an external door that no longer opens, and many of the windows are virtually impossible to open and close. We were also disappointed to learn this year that they had redone the deck and done away with the fire pit, where we used to toast our S'Mores and enjoy relaxing around the fire. We were also disappointed to find that all outside spigots had been inactivated and there was no place to wash off your feet before going in the house after a visit to the beach. And the kitchen is tiny (always has been), especially when you've got folks gathering to prepare dinner for eight. But the house is still comfortable and roomy. There are plenty of comfortable couches and chairs to lounge in and adequate outdoor furniture, including a table that accommodates 8 for outdoor meals. The steps down to the beach are well-maintained, not too steep, and the little deck half-way down to the beach overlooking the lake is a lovely place to relax and enjoy the views of the shore. Despite a few shortcomings, we'll no doubt plan to come back to Heron Creek.

Lake Michigan waterfront
This is a great location for a family gathering. The newer decks and stairs to the beach offer some amazing views. However, this is an aging home in need of some TLC. Aging appliances, electrical problems, the presence of rodents hampered our visit.

Great View, Needs Renovation!
The location and view and access to the beach is wonderful at this house. However, this home needs a lot of work and updating. Was not very clean inside or out and just needs a lot of TLC. Also, the last night we were there a mouse jumped out of the sink ran across the counter, jumped onto the floor and ran behind the dishwasher! It could be a beautiful place just needs work and pest control as well!

Great Getaway
This property was so beautiful and perfect for us 8 young adults and two kiddos, a baby and a toddler. We mostly relaxed around the house and on the beach with easy up the stairs access if we needed to run back to grab anything. The deck was huge and shaded with beautiful trees surrounding it. The communication was instant when I had a question. We would definitely book again!

Location, Location, Location!
This large house sits on the bluff of a gorgeous setting. We were here in May so we could see the lake perfectly. The house is a bit older and shows wear of a well-loved home that occurs from lots of use and some stress from elements of the weather. The deck is brand new and offers a great place to enjoy the lake views. The beach was huge and beautiful. Lots of stairs! We didn't need the upstairs of the home at all but saw there were plenty of beds for kids and other adults. Would go again just for the lake views and close access to Holland.

Great!
It was a perfect place for a quiet New Year's get together with friends and their children. The large table in the living room was great for lots of board games, we were super grateful the TV got all the stations we needed for football games, and the kitchen was more well stocked than we expected. With no leaves on the trees, the view of the lake was great.

Slightly disappointed
Overall the house was fine. However the overgrown trees block the view of Lake Michigan from the house. Very disappointing. Yes you can walk down the stairs to a deck with chairs to view the beach/sunset but the pictures online misrepresent which deck to use to view the water. This was false advertising to me and I would book elsewhere in the future. If I book on the water, I want to view the water from the house. Also the ceiling needs to be cleaned where the ceiling fans is…lots and lots of hanging dust which is visible.

Nice place
We loved it but be aware there are a lot of stairs getting into the home. One of the people staying had a broken ankle so that made it difficult for her. Also, there really isn't a view of the lake, because of the trees, without going down to the landing. The rooms were big and nicely decorated. Overall a beautiful place right on LAKE MICHIGAN!!

Weekend Stay
House was spacious and clean. The beach access was a great perk and it was cool to be in such a remote location. The only downside to the house is that the water has a strong sulfur smell. It wasn't very pleasant to drink or shower, so we mainly used bottled water.

Beautiful getaway
We had beautiful April weather and needed a getaway. This house has the potential to be 100 percent 5 star. The views are priceless. The previous reviews are constant with what we found. Although I was shocked at the dirtiness of the couches. I have not seen that since collage days. So yes stained carpets, and scuffed wall in main living area. Yet so many things were very nice. The water did not bother us. We have a well at home. There are 70 steps to the water but, it is very well made with rest stops. My 75 year old parents who came for dinner could do it fine. I think this is a good place for a large group with children. You just keep thinking that this place could be so nice with a little refreshing. Good supplies of dish detergent, laundry detergent, minimal spices and pantry items. The staff (and yes that feels different than an owner) was responsive and pleasant. I get the feeling the company does not do early check ins period. Getting to the house from the main road is tricky the first time. You want printed out instructions as you most likely will not have service. Overall we enjoyed our time and would go again.

Impressive property, unimpressed with management
Overall a great place, beautiful view, clean. First time in a place not owned by a family but a company which was quite evident. Had read on another review that carpets need cleaning and they indeed have several spots, not disturbing though. There is a grill pictured but it is not maintained and not on the deck. Unfortunately we lost power during our stay and the generator, though on, was not maintained and did not function. We called the number given but were hung up on several times, evening and morning. When we finally did reach someone they were friendly and told us that the property manager was not available and that we would be refunded for the time we didn’t have power, which we were, promptly. All in all it’s a fantastic house and location and believe it or not I think we would still go back, just with lower expectations of management.

The property is beautiful. One of the bedrooms appears to have a door on the floorplan but does not. So just be aware that one of the day beds in the loft is an open area and affords no privacy.
