The Shore is a traditional cottage that has been beautifully modernised to offer luxurious accommodation. Its location in wonderful Fortrose, right by the lapping shore of the Moray Firth is simply unbeatable.. Staycations honestly don’t come much better than The Shore in lovely Fortrose. It’s a dream of a holiday cottage and you will honestly love it.
Located in Fortrose, an historic, attractive Royal Burgh on the Black Isle, The Shore is a traditional cottage right beside the sea. A stone’s throw from the lapping Moray Firth, you have a very good chance of spotting bottlenose dolphins from the cottage - the resident pod that cruise these waters! The wee harbour of Fortrose is a slightly longer stone’s throw away and it’s where the sailing club is based. Within a few minutes’ walk you can be up a little footpath from The Shore and in the centre of charming Fortrose. A highlight is the amazing IV10 café/bar/deli that you’ll keep visiting during your stay - guaranteed!
The town is built around the beautiful red sandstone cathedral with current ruins dating back to the 1300s. Most of the building has fallen, but some fine architectural details do remain. Traditionally the seat of the bishops of Ross, Fortrose has seen a lot of wealth and therefore the buildings that make up the town are interesting and very attractive. It’s a lovely place to wander around. You’ll walk beyond the little town and explore Chanonry Ness, a sandy spit that juts out into the Moray Firth from Fortrose and the village of Rosemarkie a quarter of a mile to the north. The 15th oldest golf course in the world covers the spit and leads to the point where a Stevenson lighthouse stands.
Chanonry Point is the best spot to see the dolphins in these parts. The north side of the spit that leads back to Rosemarkie has a beautiful, long sandy beach. You can decide during your holiday which beach is your favourite: right outside the door of the cottage (at low tide!), or over in sandy Rosemarkie! Now you can stay at The Shore all week long and not venture far at all, but that would be a shame. You’re so very close to some amazing places in the Highlands. The Black Isle is on your doorstep and not far away the interior of the Scottish Highlands await exploration. Trailheads to Munros are within thirty minutes’ drive, and you can be in the Cairngorms National Park in 45 minutes. You also have lovely Inverness, the gateway to the Highlands only twenty minutes away.
The accommodation is finished to a very high standard. A historic cottage that has been modernised beautifully and perfect for a family to spend a week or two. We urge you to not hesitate in booking The Shore. It’s a truly fabulous holiday cottage that you’ll want to rebook as soon as you arrive! . Ground Floor:
