Our second night in the room, I sat down on my bed and saw hundreds of little bugs all over my bed. We immediately started removing the bedding on both beds where we found fresh blood, yellow stains and hair on the mattress covers. Trying to figure out where the bugs were coming from, I moved the beds from the wall to find dirt, food wrappers with food in them, a condom wrapper and liquid substances all over the floor. The bugs were in all of our clothes and even in the bathroom all over our toothbrushes and other toiletries. We had to replace several items. I called the owner and sent pictures and videos and told him I needed new bedding. He told me that there were washing machines downstairs that I could clean the bedding with and that was the best he could do at 10pm. I explained I had no change for the machines, detergent or bleach and the laundry room closed at 10:30pm but he said he couldn’t do anything else. He sent someone to clean the next day but even after they left, we moved the refrigerator and found more food, wrappers and liquid substances and bugs were still everywhere. He did tell me he had another unit but it was over a mile away from this building and my parents and siblings were in the building on the other side of me and I told him I couldn’t walk that far back and forth every day. The other room also did not face the beach like my current one and it was in an area filled with homeless people sitting outside the building, asking for money and did not look safe.
Another big inconvenience is he only gives one key for the room. The key not only unlocks the building, but you have to have it to get out to the beach and back in from the beach. With 2 of us staying there, if I went out before her, I had to walk all the way back over with the key and unlock the gate to let her out. I asked for an additional key but he said he only had one. I explained the inconvenience but he said that was too bad. I spoke with the building and they said most units have more than one key, but this owner didn’t want to pay for an additional key.
I asked for a full refund since we had to sleep in my parent’s unit on their floor, had to pay out of pocket for bug spray and new toiletries, as well as having to clean all of our stuff. The owner is no longer responding to me.
