Snowbird Retreat - 404 Black Bear Trail

Snowbird Retreat - Private Wooded Lot, Hot Tub, Pet Friendly, Borders Wildlife Refuge

Enjoy this beautiful, secluded home located in Old Black Bear Woods. It boasts vaulted ceilings on the main level and nine foot ceilings on the lower level giving this home a wonderful, airy feeling. Large windows at the back of the home give amazing, unobstructed views of the National Wildlife Refuge and large backyard. As well as a screened in porch, perfect for mornings to enjoy the sunrises.

On the main level there is a large living room with a flat screen tv and expansive views from its perch. Walk straight into the open kitchen and dining area that has plenty of room for everyone and an island counter. On the same level is the screened in porch, which makes it easy to make your meals then enjoy them outside at the picnic table. Down the short hallway there is one bedroom with a queen bed and a bathroom.

Up the spiral staircase is a loft bedroom with a king size bed that has a blind to pull down to give you privacy from the rest of the home.

Going down the spiral staircase to the lower level is a family room with large windows to look out to the backyard from. In the family room is two sleep sofas and another flat screen tv. On this level is another bedroom with a full bed and a second bathroom.

Out the glass doors on the lower level is an expansive L-shaped deck where you can look down onto the backyard, barbecue, or enjoy the hot tub. At the front of the home is plenty of parking but does not lack the feeling of being secluded.

This home is perfect for a quiet retreat in the mountains of West Virginia.

The exact unplugging we needed!
This was the perfect property to enjoy a quiet peaceful weekend with our family. Nice and secluded without any close neighboring properties. Beautiful wooded area with nature preserve behind the house. We were able to see deers just passing through. The large back windows open up to the nature preserve. Plenty of sleeping areas and the living room was so cozy! Beds were very comfy!

Girls Getaway
Loved the location. Had an issue with A/C but luckily did not need it much. Anyone with mobility issues might have a problem with the spiral staircases. Furniture has been changed since the photos. Would stay here again.

Be warned, this place is FILTHY!
When we got to the property we found the living area in a filthy state. The main floor contained socks, French fries, dirt, hand warmers, and an unexpected amount of filth. This is not what we expected upon arriving at the property. After leaving the property the 3 guests (including myself) who used the hot tub developed rashes and were diagnosed with a form of folliculitis. All members of the party followed the proper protocol that was listed on the refrigerator such as showering both before and after using the outdoor hot tub. We reached out directly to the rental agency (MountainTop Realty) to just only receive an email saying "Very Sorry!" with no true resolution to these problems. Very disappointed and would warn anyone before renting this property.

Very Relaxing
This was our first experience of a weeks vacation at Canaan Valley. The location of the cabin was perfect in that it was so close to both Blackwater Falls & Canaan Valley State Park. The cabin itself was beautiful and we enjoyed a very & I mean a very relaxing stay there. The kitchen is well stocked with anything one would need. The negatives to this beautiful cabin -- the compatibility of the stairs especially the spiral staircase with our dogs. Only one of our dogs would go down or up them which meant we had to to down the outside flight of stairs every time we had to take them out plus we slept in the downstairs bedroom in order to easily get them out to potty. Going from a King size bed at home to a full size bed at this cabin wasn't very comfortable either, so it would be nicer to have had at least an upgrade to a queen size bed for comfort. Another suggestion would be to have blinds on all of the windows downstairs for those of us who are scarity cats watching TV at night. That was creepy! We did have an issue with our keys to enter the cabin but an email to the realtor office and the next day the locksmith came out to adjust the lock and make new keys for us. So we were very happy about the attentiveness to this issue while we were there. But the most disheartening issue was in knowing the price we paid to rent this cabin was to walk into the cabin to several large stains on the carpet in all the rooms that were carpeted. I took pictures of all of the stains and emailed the realtors office because of having our dogs with us we did not want to be blamed for these stains. I would like to add that the cabin was otherwise very clean and it did not smell. I did get a response a couple days later that they were aware of the stains but since the cabin has been rented so much that they hadn't had a chance to get the carpets cleaned. Suggestion would be to mark off days in order to get this done -- as I said this was disheartening in seeing this right when walking into the cabin. So I do hope the carpets get cleaned sooner than later for the next renter. All in all we would stay here again in knowing how we would have to manage the staircases with our dogs but I don't suggest this cabin for anyone that has any issues of going up or down stairs and that includes your fur-kids. Thank you for allowing us to bring our fur-kids with us and we did enjoy your cabin. Donna & Glenn

Not very well maintained. We enjoyed the location.
Overall the location and parking at the house was great for our group of friends. We had 4 couples and I would say this house slept 2 -3 couples better than 4+. We did use one of the pull out couches but it was extremely uncomfortable. The house obviously has roof leaks because you could see mildew/mold looking stains in multiple places in the kitchen, and dining area. The basement bathroom showed signs of water leaks also. The kitchen, dining, and living room area was really nice for a large group. It allowed us to cook dinner, play games, watch TV, and visit with each other. The hot tub was clean and well maintained. Overall, it served our need as a last minute rental but in the future I would hope for a cleaner, better maintained home with more designated bedrooms with queen or bigger beds.

Beautiful scenery but could use some updates
The property is in a great location close to state parks and awesome waterfalls. There was plenty of space for 4 adults and 6 teenagers, and we enjoyed the hot tub and fire pit in the evenings. The house was clean, but could use some upgrading (roof leakage down kitchen walls, bathrooms outdated, some stains on carpet). Overall, though, we enjoyed our time!

Not bad overall
We had the carbon monoxide detector go of at 5:30 am the first night we were there. Since we couldn’t get a hold of the office at that time we called the fire department to come out and check the place. We vented the house with the windows open and the fire department cleared it saying that I was just a faulty detector and if it went off again to let them know. He told the landlord they needed to change it but this wasn’t very reassuring especially when we closed the windows and the alarm went off again around noon and the detector was still not replaced. They finally came and replaced it after about 7 hours of it initially going off and since we had dogs there we couldn’t go anywhere and leave the dogs until we knew it was not a true threat so it pretty much ruined our first morning there. Overall it was a good experience since that was only 1 of 3 nights we stayed but I just wish the reality company would have acted with a little more sense of urgency. There is also a very tight set of spiral stairs that your dog will most likely not be able to climb on their own, but you can go out and around. Great location. Secluded on a nice piece of property and a short drive to the resorts and food.

Great rental!
Although we only rented the home for a weekend - it was a great rental. We have rented many places over the years and this was the cleanest rental we've ever had - kudos to the cleaning crew! Kitchen was extremely well appointed with everything we needed and we cooked all weekend. There were plenty of towels, pillows and blankets and we had 9 adults and used both pull out couches. Hot tub was very clean and chemicals recently serviced. Backdrop to home was a beautiful wooded area, home was very private. Lots of things to do in area - Dolly Sods, Blackwater Falls and we tubed the Cheat River. Highly recommend this rental, we were very pleased with our selection.
