The worst stay ever
This property needs some serious attention. Please see the following issues. The main screen door was broken. When you entered the cabin to the porch it smelled like mold, damp stink. The whole cabin smelled horrible. We could not even eat in there due to the horrible taste in our mouths from the moldy stinky smell. No air and 1 fan at 98 degrees and being closed up for who knows how long. We wanted to leave the 1st day there, but stuck it out and ate in town because we couldn't eat in there it made us sick. Some of the windows you had to hold up with sticks the window sills were full of dead flies and the windows were filthy dirty, cobwebs on lights, bathroom ceiling fan not sure how it even worked it was so dirty. All the bedding, towels etc. smelled like old rotten moldy wood. The patio screen was broken. We had to save for a long time for this experience and we had to cut our vacation short by leaving early because we were sick from the smell. Our trip to the Black Hills was fantastic, our stay at Rustic Roost was the worst ever. We had to purchase $30.00 worth of spay and plugins to try and get rid of the stink which did not help. I think we deserve a partial refund for our stay. Had to wash every bit of clothing etc. when we got home the smell was on everything.

Great Woodsy Cabin
Great location which felt secluded but was also a short drive to the highway and centrally located for ease of traveling throughout the Black Hills. The cabin was homey and well stocked for cooking. Frequently saw wildlife - deer, turkeys, and songbirds!

Peaceful Getaway Between Crazy Horse and Rushmore
This was the perfect getaway to see the monuments. The cabin is up road, half paved, about 3 miles into the woods. It is located in between Rushmore and Crazyhorse, which was perfect for our short trip. The cabin has a cozy bedroom, comfy bedding, nice shower and fully stocked kitchen for cooking. Living room with movies, games, fireplace, etc. It has a nice big yard, lots of trees and a deer that came and visited us every day. Check in was a breeze, Kathleen was great. Everything was easy, wasn't hard to find the cabin. We would stay here again. Although a little further away, Buffalo safari in Custer was the highlight.

Very peaceful and quiet.
The stay was great! We had several wildlife (deer & turkey) come to the open grass area each day and a turkey that loved sleeping on the front porch. The cabin was very clean and comfortable. It was a little out of the way but very quiet and peaceful. The bedroom was great as it provided darkness when the sun came up at 5 am (we were not expecting that). Overall, a beautiful area to go on a vacation with lots of things to see. Thank you!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The area is peaceful and quiet. The cabin was just what we needed to escape from the heat back home and enjoy the beautiful surroundings and all there is to do in the Black Hills.

Cabin in the woods
The cabin was very clean and had all things you would want. Although we only ate breakfast there, it had a full compliment of pots, pans, and dishes. It was very quiet and we saw a lot of deer, bird's and squirrels. If you are looking for a quiet place and don't mind a little drive from the nearest town, I recommend this property.

Anniversary getaway
We loved that this location was close to town (Hill City), yet far away enough to be alone in the woods. We saw deer, elk and wild turkeys, and walked both the gravel road and the ATV trail. Never heard any vehicles and maybe only passed 10 total on the road over 3 days. If you are looking for peace and quiet - this is it! The 5 mile drive to Hill City takes about 15 minutes on a beautiful winding road up a hill. The town has tourist shopping, the Alpine Inn (they open at 5 but you can get on the wait list starting at 4 - they don't take reservations), the 1880 Train to Keystone where we did the historic walking tour, and a George S Mickelson trailhead. Note: if you want to rent bikes from the bike place right across from the trailhead in Hill City, they are closed on Tuesdays. We drove a bit north and walked the Mickelson trail from the Deerfield #40 marker toward the Mystic trailhead - it was lovely (mostly passed bikers) and it takes you through 2 tunnels. We had a restful getaway. Would definitely stay here again.

Cozy Cabin
My husband and I (and our 8 month old daughter) had a great time Memorial Day weekend. It was so quiet and relaxing. We loved cooking dinner and sitting on the porch. Tons of movie selections for when it was time to wind down at night. We loved how close it was to the state parks but far enough to escape the noise! We will 100% try to book this cabin next time we’re in town.

Trail riding get-away
Kathy was very easy to work with and answered our questions before arrival. The cabin was perfect for just the 2 of us and very close to tons of trails. We were in need of a large area to be able to pull our 40' trailer into with our rides, and this area fit us perfectly. We own our own business, so having no phone signal (which we read as a negative in another review) was exactly what the doctor ordered. The kitchen was FULLY stocked with everything you would need. We just picked up groceries and were set for our whole trip. Cons: My husband is a "wide" guy and had to force his shoulders into the area to sit on the toilet. We had read on other reviews that this area was tight.....but they weren't kidding. Even with that, my husband said we will be back.

Cabin in the Hills
Cabin was great for us! We like to cook most our meals instead of going out to eat so the kitchen and grill on the porch was great to work in and with. Toilet area is very tight in the bathroom. A large person will not fit very comfortably on the commode. Their is a fun outhouse up the hill but not very easy to get to! :) Favorite part was watching the deer roaming close to the house throughout the day. Overall it was a very pleasant stay for us!
