Best of the Berkshires & Hudson Valley

Located in Canaan, NY, less than a mile from the Massachusetts border, this wonderful 1700s post and beam farmhouse has recently undergone total restoration. Knoll Rock offers a wonderful combination of historic features combined with state-of-the-art comforts and amenities. Set on four tranquil acres, and close to Tanglewood and all the cultural and leisure activities the Berkshires and Hudson Valley region has to offer, this is the perfect place for a relaxing getaway or memorable vacation. All guests must provide positive reviews from previous VRBO bookings. Please make sure you meet this requirement prior to sending a booking request.

The entire house consists of a large open living, eating and gourmet kitchen area, plus a separate fully equipped studio kitchen, a large family room and four bedrooms (one king bed, two queen beds and one full bed). The four beautiful bathrooms are all fully tiled, with glass vanities and euro-style full-body power showers. One bathroom also offers a whirlpool tub. The beautiful trails on this property, and the owners’ adjoining land, offer country strolls and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing during winter season. With beach passes for idyllic Queechy Lake, swimming and kayaking are only five minutes away. Bikers can enjoy cycling the dirt roads near the house or on the many trails in the region. Spend warm summer evenings dining on the porch or out on the patio. The property is configured so that two families can share the home, yet maintain individual privacy if required. Knoll Rock is not ideal for toddlers who are just walking. Well supervised/behaved children are welcome. Easy accessibility via nearby Route 22 and I90. New York City is approximately two and a half hours and Boston two hours. As well as renting as an entire property, the property can be rented as just the main house (3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms), or studio wing (one large bedroom, living room, kitchenette and bathroom).

Guests have full access to all accommodations, other than the basement and attic. Bikes, kayaks, paddleboards and snowshoes, according to the season, are available by arrangement with the hosts. We have passes for the lovely private beach at Queechy Lake, for summer swimming The house is stocked with many wonderful games, books and movies. There are three large screen Roku TVs offering streaming Netflix, HBO, Showtime and other popular entertainment and news channels. With a cell tower less than a mile away, phone and data service is normally very good. We maintain trails on both properties (12 acres total), offering country strolls and mountain biking, or XC skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. Our neighboring network of dirt roads also offers biking and hiking opportunities. Close to all the wonderful places of interest and cultural activities of the Berkshires and Hudson Valley. Historic & Modern
A labyrinth of rooms with original flooring and beamed ceiling. Modern beautiful bathrooms that match the home perfectly. Location is peaceful & serene. Wish we could have stayed longer and will definitely stay again, since we have family in the area. Convenient to Tanglewood as well. Owner loves her home and it is evident in her thoroughness in explaining the how to's of the home.

We had high expectations and this exceeded them.
This is a gem. It would be hard to overstate how much we enjoyed our stay here, and how perfect the place was for us. We were 3 adults and 2 children (ages 9 and 12); we stayed for 7 nights. The rambling configuration meant there was plenty of room - and privacy - for everyone, and the common areas were great for family time. It is well-appointed and it was stocked with everything we could possibly have needed. Mai was a terrific host. She was clear about her expectations, which we appreciated – and which we understood even better after seeing the property. It is a unique, historic house that was beautifully renovated and is meticulously maintained. She went out of her way to accommodate us and responded quickly to several queries we had during the week, including letting us borrow extra lawn chairs for concerts at Tanglewood. We also appreciated that she let us use her pass to the private beach at Queechy Lake – we had a great time there. Outside, we enjoyed the firepit, the patio, the yard and the solitude. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to lodge. We highly recommend this house and we hope to stay here again on our next trip to the Berkshires. P.S. The location was great! It is convenient to all the recreational and cultural offerings of the Berkshires, but without the crowds and traffic of Lenox and Stockbridge. (E.g., we didn't realize it at the time, but it's much more convenient for Tanglewood concerts because afterward you go in the opposite direction of the masses).

Nicely Appointed Farnhouse
It’s clear the owners have poured their hearts into renovating this lovely farmhouse that’s the perfect mix of modern and rustic charm. It’s close to skiing and Berkshires sights. The kitchen is well appointed for those who like to cook. Use of snowshoes were also a nice touch during this beast of a winter. Lovely place - highly recommend!

Lovely property--hosts treat you like family!
We had a wonderful four-day weekend at Knoll Rock. It's truly a showplace property. Everything antique that you would want antique, and everything brand-new that you'd want modern. The kitchen is a chef's dream, and all four bathrooms are spotless and beautifully finished. I was very impressed with the abundance Mai makes available--more towels than you could use, fantastic toiletries in the showers, spices in the pantry, and every chef's tool you could want in the kitchen. I've never rented a vacation property before that really felt like we were being welcomed like family. I cannot recommend Knoll Rock highly enough!

Modern living in a 300+ year old house
We were fortunate to be able to rent this beautiful home after someone else canceled. This was my family’s first escape from NYC since the pandemic started. It hit all the right notes - beautiful, large (we rented both units to have 4 bed/4 bath), quiet and super comfortable. The teens in our group had plenty of room to spread out and occasionally took a break from their screens (which was hard to do because there was great WiFi and roku tvs in the home). The kitchen was well equipped to cook several family meals together and the outdoor grill was large enough to get some outdoor cooking done as well. The house was immaculate on arrival. The beds were comfortable. ACs were available but we didn’t need much since the temps were relatively cool at night. The attached woods served for relaxing walks. The backyard table and fire pit were a big hit. Supermarkets were within 20 minute drive, along with lots of farm stands. Lots of stars at night. Great hiking trails short drive away and of course the OMI Art fields too. A nearby lake and beach which we enjoyed visiting. It was wonderful respite and hit all of our checkboxes for a vacation rental. Mai was super attentive and an excellent communicator throughout the entire process and we appreciated her availability by text as well as the in person welcome and farewell. I wish we had more time (we only had five nights) as there is probably a lot more we could have done.
