Under two-and-a-half miles away are the Northwoods Clubhouse and Trout Creek Recreation Center, which offer many amenities for those looking to blow off some steam – basketball, tennis, golf, a fitness center, and those looking to relax – a hot tub, sauna, seasonal pools, and restaurants. Meanwhile, the Tahoe Donner Marina on Donner Lake is only four miles away where you can dock or launch your watercraft in summer. In winter, head over to the Tahoe Donner Ski Area nearby, or to Northstar, Squaw Valley, and Sugarbowl. You won't have to travel far at all when you stay at this great Lake Tahoe lodge. Beyond the nearby Tahoe Donner amenities and Donner Lake are tons of popular North Lake Tahoe attractions about twenty miles southeast. Beaches dot the shore of Lake Tahoe and a notable one is at Carnelian Bay. On the way is Northstar Resort for premier skiing and outdoor activities all year long. You'll also pass through Truckee, which has a few historical sites of notes as well as charming shops. For lower-key family-orientated vacationing, you'll love returning to your Tahoe Donner vacation lodge.

Conveniently located in a quiet neighborhood near Tahoe Donner amenities, and with so many perks of its own, this Truckee vacation rental is one to bookmark – or book a.s.a.p.!

The photos don't match the reality!
This house has seen some hard living. The carpet was filthy, with numerous mysterious stains. We made sure we wore slippers at all times in the interests of hygiene. Sofas had been repaired with duct tape, and one dining chair was on the verge of collapse, TV remote was missing bits and looked like it had not worked since the VHS era. Pots and pans were in poor condition. We booked this place because of the shared hot tub, but there were no amenity passes in the place (and in fact no information package at all). The front desk of the Tahoe Donner recreation center had told us that we would absolutely not be allowed access to the hot tub without the passes. After numerous phone calls trying to arrange access to the hot tub, escalating our calls through managers, regional managers, VRBO and others, we eventually got permission to enjoy what we had paid for. Over the years, we have stayed in numerous Tahoe houses and have always had great experiences with VRBO until now. This place stands alone for all the wrong reasons. VRBO needs to pay more attention to quality control.

Great size for our party. Excellent for families
The house was nice and spacious with the perfect amount of beds. The downstairs area was perfect for kids. When we entered the house we were a bit shocked over how dirty the carpet was. Then when you head downstairs the walls are covered in something that had been spilled and once again nasty carpets. We didn’t want to take our shoes off that’s for sure. The pots and pans were very sketchy. We lost a dozen eggs to a non stick pan that left black flakes in the food. Now as far as towels and soaps and dish soaps and garbage sacks we had plenty. The downstairs tile bathroom is nice and big but when you use the shower it doesn’t drain making you stand in gunk. We’ve always purposely used vacasa in every vacation at the coast and been very happy. Unfortunately this house was a great space but had some cleanliness issues for us.

The worst rental we have ever been in
My family has been staying in vacation rentals for 10 years. We love vacationing this way. We have never had a bad experience until this one. From day one we had issues. I “booked now” and was charged a different price than was advertised with out my approval. And was told the listed price is an average when I asked why I was charged so much more. That was just the beginning. When we got there the place was filthy. Carpets were disgusting ( they are really stained and I was so glad I didn’t have any babies crawling on them), but there literally was trash, food and paper on the carpets. There was clothing under beds, toys out downstairs, kitchen counters and table were sticky and gross. Dishes were dirty in the cupboard. We spent most of our first day cleaning. Vacuuming, cleaning the kitchen, washing sheets (we had to wash all of them bedding. We could literally see hairs and all sorts of stuff on the sheets). Pillows were yellow when we took off pillow cases. We had to shovel a pathway to the front door because the only way to it was walking on about 18 inches of slippery icy snow. We could not find bath towels any where. I called and we got a phone call back about 5 hours later. We finally found a load of towels in the dryer, but they were dirty and we had to rewash them. The dishwasher racks were broken. 2 kitchen drawers were totally broken and no tracks. The knife drawer literally came out and fell to the floor. The beds were really hard and bunk beds were super squeaky. It also says no pets and we found a closet with a bunch of cat stuff. (Maybe the owners stuff??). We had several people who were allergic to cats. There were 2 DVD players and neither worked. We left messages and never heard back. In the end we made it and adventure after we cleaned. The only positive was there was plenty of room for the 12 of us and the kids loved playing pool.

Uncomfortable Living and Unprofessional Service
When we first arrived, the trash outside in front of the house was scattered everywhere in front of the garage and driveway. It was not a pleasant arrival, and it smelled! We called residential services three times so we would get ahold of someone to take care of it, but no one picked up. A neighbor noticed our inconvenience, and put in extra effort to help us get rid of the trash. Next, the carpet in the house was dirty; there were stains spotted everywhere. No one felt comfortable walking barefoot or around the house with that kind of unsanitary condition. The dining table was unstable and shook a bit-- it could have been a hazard for us to eat there. The A/C in the house was broken, as to many other parts of the house, such as the garage and the railing of the walkway outside. There was trash when we would open some of the cupboards. We did not feel 100% comfortable with our stay there.

Cheap but NEGLECTED
Wish we had looked at the more recent reviews before renting this place -- the positive reviews were listed first, but the dates are from last year! We contacted Vacasa (which was very quick to respond!) about the concerns listed in the bad (more recent reviews, which we didn't scroll down enough to see the first time -- lesson learned!) and were told the issues (mainly, sauna & dishwasher) were being addressed by the property managers. We kept our fingers crossed. Here's what we found: Positives: 1. Cheap! We have paid more for rentals over the decade we have been doing this annual trip. We kept reminding ourselves that we were saving money this year. 2. The sauna was working!! Our teens loved it. 3. Linens were provided for bedding and towels (NO KITCHEN TOWELS, though) 4. Game room/bar -- all the game equipment was functional, so our teens enjoyed themselves (the sauna/game room was the reason we rented this property) 5. Toilets and water pressure/temperature worked fine, as did the furnace. We didn't experience the problems other reviewers did, thankfully. 6. Family/dining area was roomy with plenty of seating Negatives: 1. Dishwasher still was NOT repaired or replaced, and there were dirty dishes and standing water in it when we arrived. 2 . So many things are BROKEN or do NOT work, that it became comical: recliner, DVD, Apple TV (the old TVs don't support any of the devices that are there), CD player, trash compactor, lamps, jet tub, closet doors, drawers . . . . 3. There were drips and water damage in the ceilings, causing pieces of plaster to fall off the walls. 4. There was dried vomit on one of the bedroom walls/floor downstairs 5. The kitchen was the worst we've seen -- not well stocked (no large cooking pot) and stove top was difficult to regulate temp. And of course, no dishwasher as promised. Worn and old carpet/furnishing are fine with us when we rent at this price point (although ripped couches with stuffing exposed is a bit much), and overall the most important reason for our rental (game room and sauna) came through for us. But it was frustrating to be told things were being "addressed" and find out that wasn't exactly the case. The description claims to have all these amenities, but so few of them are actually functional. This property could be a great rental if it wasn't so neglected.

unmaintained - numerous safety issues
Numerous deferred maintenance items leading to safety/liability issues. 1. Dishwasher not working and it has mildewy water sitting in the bottom. 2. No door on the sauna so it is essentially not working even though it is listed on the VRBO website as an amenity. 3. There is a broken widow in and upstairs bedroom. 4. Many lightbulbs throughout the house are not working, including several of the lights along the entry walkway. Too many overall to count. 5. In the downstairs bathroom there is a cabinet door that is hanging off with exposed nails. 6. Entry railing has collapsed with numerous exposed nails. 7. Some of the pillows are filthy and the carpets throughout are also filthy. 8. The bunk beds are extremely wobbly including the upper bunk railings. We could only use 1 upper bunk. Extremely hazardous - extreme liability. 9. The fireplace has a vent that exits in the downstairs game room. It has a plastic bag and packing tape over it. The game room gets full of fumes and smoke when the fireplace is lit. This makes the fireplace unusable. Extremely hazardous - extreme liability. 10. There was no firewood which would be fine if your guests knew about it and could bring firewood with them. 11. The VRBO page says that the kitchen is well-stocked. There's only one pot. The Teflon skillets are all extremely scratched. no spatula. Bring these items and all spices, oils, sugar, etc. 12. One of the doors to the laundry room is completely unhinged and unusable. 13. The linen closet is in complete disarray. The items were literally thrown into that closet. 14. The ceiling in the game room has holes in it and there is mildew. 16. The code for the spare lock box does not work. The bathrooms and kitchen (aside from the dishwasher) were all very clean. Nice location. The game tables were all functioning. Additionally, I would say that the Vacasa office I was talking to in Oregon was very quick to respond to my emails and phone calls. I would not recommend this property. There are so many others to choose from that are in better shape. We selected this one this time because the other 2 we usually rent were not available during the time we needed them.

Bad shape, lots of things not as advertised
Not as advertised: Dishwasher broken, sauna doesn't have door so can't use it, not a full kitchen (no big pot to boil pasta, no small pot to heat sauce), jets on jet tub don't work, there was dirty laundry in the washer and clean laundry in the dryer. More generally: stuffing coming out of couches, carpets stained, cracked windows, bunk beds broken... it's in general disrepair

The cabin is really really old and need remodeling badly.
When we got into the house, there are no hot water. We called management they said that they will send someone the next morning. The water heater takes too long to heat up. One person takes a 2 minutes shower then all the hot water are gone. The garage doesn't even work. The dishwasher doesn't work and very very dirty. We had to hand wash everything. The lights in the kitchen and dining area didn't work either. The sauna has no door. They disabled the bathroom jacuzzi because we are in drought. We have so much rain now. The TV is so old. Two rooms have bunk beds, they make creaking noise badly when a person turns a body. No one can sleep in these two rooms. We definitely won't stay here again. We don't recommend this cabin for anyone.

Snowcave Fun
We arrived march 6th, the roads in the area are several loops. There can be more than one road loop with the same name. Be advised: not all GPS work, so know where your going before leaving. Location other wise very convent to gas, restaurants, groceries, downtown Truckee, Hwy, Roads ketped clear of snow and more. We chose to buy food from the local Safeway upon arrival. The property on the out side had wonderful room for the kids to play in the snow away from the street. The inside dose need a good spring cleaning and maintenance. The floor plan worked well for Grand Parents, Husband and I along with our two kids. The separate TV and play areas were very nice and needed at the end of the day. Bathrooms could use a night lite for nightly visit as it is pitch dark. There is no place to unpack or place luggage or clothes in bedrooms, every cupboard and closet is locked up for owners use. Prepare to live out of your luggage on the floor. We found evidence that the owners do bring their cats to stay for periods of time, we found a litter box, water and food dish inside down stairs. We love cats, have three our selves, but I feel this should be posted for people who are allergic to cats. We were how ever very disappointed in our service from the Vacasa Property Management. Several times the heat would go out at the coldest times which was hard on the grand parents and kids. We made several phone calls, never available, left messages, with no return calls. I always had to call three times before reaching a live person. PS. there is no landline phone on property and cell phone service is very spotty, I found my cell worked best downstairs in one of the bedrooms next to window. The heating guy never showed up. They instead like to give us "How to Fix it" over the phone directions, which never work for long The fire wood provided, were way to big to burn in the fireplace and need to be splinted down from stump size to log size. OVER ALL: three stars out of Five Clean: where you need, needs an over all deep spring clean and small maintenance like light bulb replacement etc. (Cleaning Lady- great she visited to make sure everything was up to speed for the standard clean and extra towels) Floor plan: good for families or multi families. Price: Great Location: Great Lack of Stars was mostly the really bad service from Vacasa Property Management. (Which I had read in other reviews on other properties- but you never think it going to happen to you)

Great home for multiple families!!
I picked this home for a multiple family ski weekend and it was perfect! Great living area with comfortable couches and a large dining table. Also there was seating at the island. Enough beds for 4 adults (2 queen beds) and 8 kids (4 bunk beds). There was more than enough towels and blankets to go around as well. Outside parking easily fit our 4 SUVs and with room to spare. And the game room was awesome with an air hockey table, foos ball table, and pool table; our kids hung out there all weekend, allowing the adults to hang out upstairs. The downside to the home: the light was broken in the main bathroom so we could only use 2 put of 3 bathrooms at night. Also the trash compactor was broken so we used it as a garbage can mainly. The ice maker on the refrigerator was broken (minor issue for us but just FYI). This house is literally down the block from Donner resort which was why I picked it. However, donner was closed (early April) so we ended up going to Squaw, which was only 20 minutes away. Not a big deal and everything worked out well! Also plenty of places to eat near this home and there is a Safeway about 8 minutes away so you can pick up groceries and toiletries (the home includes travel sized shampoo, conditioner; and soaps). Would recommend this home overall and mr friends really enjoyed their stay here!

Great property layout and close to everything
This property reminded me of Anne of the green gables :-). The house has a great layout. Don't judge the book by it covers. There's a bathroom on every floor and the sauna is at the bottom floor. There is no misleading in the property description and you will find everything in the listing. The main floor is very spacious, plenty of room and chairs for the whole family to sit and enjoy each other company. We especially love the bay window seating and watch the kids play with the snow on the patio. You won't be disappointed for staying here. The house can hold up to 25 people easily. The house is a bit old but have great potential if the owner willing to do a few upgrade. Note to the care taker/owner: First, thank you for letting us stay at your property. We treated it like our own and even vacuum, ran a load on the dishwasher and towels before we left. I only comment this because I care about your property. I believe if you make the following changes, it will greatly improve the property and save you money money too: 1. Please invest in two flat screen TVs (one downstairs and upstairs). This will greatly enhance the guest experience. Alot of us have iPad, Chrome Stick but cannot connected to an CRT TV :-(. 2. Please invest in a knife sharper. After a lot of guests using it, it became so dull 3. Make sure a match or lighter is still working. We wanted to start the fireplace but found your lighter is out of gas. We had to drive 15 minutes to Safeway and buy one. 4. Upgrade the lighting. You still have incandescent "warm light" and we have to turn on every light in the house just to see where we are going. If you can change it to LED and "daylight", it will save you on electricity. 5. The house's water pressure is way too high. We tried to conserve water but the shower pressure feels like we were being host down at a protest :-). 6. The kitchen cabinets old but functional. Some of the handles are missing. You just need to re-secure hinges, and the slides. Thank you again for letting us made create memory at your place.

Great Stay for the Price
The home was fairly clean when we arrived. As we proceeded to tour the house, we were quite amazed. The living room, which is attached to the kitchen is quite large and is perfect for large families. Utensils in the kitchen is very basic and did not have much. The fireplace that we can actually use is also a nice touch. If you were bored, you can head right downstairs where the game is at. If foosball is not your thing, you also have air hockey and a pool table to challenge others. The other room worth mentioning is the sauna. After a long day of snowboarding, nothing beats sitting in a hot sauna relaxing your tense muscles. I gave this place a 4 star because we ran into something unusual. If a home has 3 showers, it should be expected that all 3 showers can operate at full potential. The issue we can into is that if 2 showers were being used, one shower will draft all of the hot water, leaving the other shower ice cold. With a larger group, we did not want to have to line up for showers but we had no other choice. Overall, we had a good experience with our stay.

Very nice weekend
The house was nice, warm and comfortable. The amenities were awesome. Bring any condiments you might need and a cheesegrater. If you are arriving after dark, have them turn the the walkway lights on for you (hard to find in the dark) pool table accouterments on are in laundry closet top shelf. No auxiliary jacks for ipod or mobile, bring CD's. We will be back next year. Ps the cleaning fee doubles the price listed. =(
