We were drawn to the great views and they didn't disappoint. A few things we weren't expecting however:
- There is no air conditioning... and the house gets unbearably hot during the day if its warm out. We wound up leaving to a hotel for the last few nights of our time in Kona due to this...
- The pool in the pictures is down a drive and attached to a different house. If another large group shows up from that house (as happened to us) it won't be near as idyllic as the pictures. Additionally, the pool was not clean. There was floating debris when we arrived and green algae on the sides.
- The hot tub costs an additional $200/wk... so we opted out, only to realize on our final bill that we were charged the
$200 anyways -- and the hot tub was cold. We've made attempts to get our money back for this with no success yet. I will happily update this portion if that changes.
- There is someone living on the property. We were startled when we arrived as the ad didn't prepare us for that. And they use the same washer and dryer as the house being rented, so if the door to the laundry is open, you will see them.
- The grocery store that is supposed to be 3 miles away is actually a small gas station. To get groceries, you have to drive all the way to Waimea (allow 2 hours).
All in all, not a bad house - but not the experience we expected based on the ad here. And that experience continued after we got home and realized we'd been overcharged.
