Magical...but where are we?
Beautiful hotel in a special building in which we felt privileged to stay. Luxuriously apponted with stunning views over the gardens. Breakfast was excellent...a wide choice with good service. Hopefully the work on the gardens will continue and the disappointing barren and messy areas outside the little ground floor balconies will be improved upon. (Indeed outside our Room 019 there were discarded wine bottles and an old cigarette lighter. Not what you expect in a Luxury Small Hotel! ) It was also a real pity that the reception staff knew so little about the area. The lack of local knowledge, including no information about the adjoining village and the whereabouts and walks to the amazing Roman ruins at Milreu are a really wasted opportunity to enhance the stay for visitors. A local map,and awareness of potential bus services, would have precipitated an extended stay in this magical place.

The Pousada Palácio stay was a highlight of our travels. The refurbished palace, with its beautiful sitting rooms, chapel and dining area took us back in time. In contrast, the rooms and pool area were modern and well appointed. The staff was fantastic! Started with a tour of the property and help with parking and luggage. Largest parking spots on the entire peninsula! Dining was exceptional and some of the best meals of our three week journey. The outdoor dining area was special. The Palace was in a great location as we were able to walk to the Roman ruins and enjoy the quaint town of Estói. Can’t wait to stay again.

We had an incredible stay, very relaxing. The pool area is quiet and not crowded, lots of chairs and umbrellas. Food was great, staff were pleasant. The property is quite impressive. We stayed for 2 nights at the start of a 2 week trip, wanted to extend this but they were full, not at all surprising for such a nice place. I've already recommended it to friends and I'm confident we'll be back. My only constructive feedback would be to recommend a set of adjustable dumbbells for the gym.

Beautiful old building cleverly updated to add the hotel rooms. Staff fabulous, clean, lovely pool, great breakfast and only a 5 min walk to the village with a couple of snack bars & restaurants.

It’s a nice setting like all other pousadas. Needs some upkeep on the surrounding grounds. Dried edges of the garden setting and some of the grounds need care. Fountains not clean and with only a small amount of water.

Beautiful converted palace with huge stately rooms. The actual bedrooms are super modern and very large. Lovely garden and swimming pool. Worth to stay for a few days. Dinner was a bit disappointing as it took 90 minutes to get our food and the order was wrong. I would suggest eating outside. Breakfast is wonderful

We enjoyed our 5-night stay at La Pousada Palacio de Estoi. It's an old, renovated palace with a rich history and beautifully restored rooms. The hotel is spotless, and the staff is friendly and does their best to make your stay enjoyable.

This is a beautiful property, still retaining many of its period features. The room are large comfortable and showers, air-conditioning working well, powerful and silent. the modern design of the cupboards was not convenient to open but that was a minor issue. The staff were very friendly and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant and food was very tasty, all ingredients right from olive oil was of superior quality and vegetarian options were available. We loved the views as we had our meals. The breakfast was included. It was generous with all options: hot breakfast- bacon and eggs, toast with a range of artisan breads, as well as sold meats, cheeses, salads, and a variety of cakes and pastries freshly prepared. Even the marmalades and jams were home made. The surrounding town is tiny, charming with a church and a little square in the centre, but not much shopping and everything shuts down in the evening. However there are many interesting towns about 20 minutes drive away, so it is well worth hiring a car. They were very helpful at the reception and recommended several places/ tours. Our favourite was OLhao which has a bustling market just next to the marina. Lagos, Faro and Tavira are similarly situated. We enjoyed a visit to a local winery where after little tour, we were offered their wines along with antipasti. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Pousada Palacio de Estoi.

The Palace itself is fantastic, very historic and picturesque, this includes reception, the gardens, restaurant, common areas. The rooms are good: modern, neat, nothing flashy or eccentric but clean and with plenty of natural light. Overall good experience, quite unique. Public transportation won't work well though, but for us this wasn't an issue as we had a car and we could drive to Faro for shopping or dining options (20 minutes) and approximately the same drive time to Tavira.
