Dancing Bear - 349 Ridge Road

Dancing Bear - Private Wooded Lot, Pet Friendly, Lake Access

The charm of a classic cabin with the advantages of modern, open concept living. Dancing Bear is the just right place for you next family gathering. In the main living area enjoy vaulted ceilings, floor to ceiling windows over looking the private, wooded lot and a stone, wood burning fireplace. Gather around the dining table or go casual and sit at the kitchen bar. Rustic finished floors and wood lapped ceilings add more to the warmth of the home. A separate mudroom is the perfect place to drop ski or hiking gear. On the main level is a large master king bed suite with en suite and private deck.

Up the stairs is a loft that you can look over on both sides with additional sleeping accommodations. The first upstairs bedroom has one queen bed; the other has one queen and a twin. Between the two bedrooms is the upstairs, shared bathroom.

Outside relax in the outdoor that over looks the stream that runs through the property, cookout at the gas grill or just enjoy the peace of being tucked away from it all.

Cozy and comfortable
The main reason for the 3 stars is because of what we consider to be a safety issue. All swinging doors to the out side require a key to lock and unlock from the inside. The sliding glass door has a stick at the bottom to prevent the door from opening if it is lifted from its lock. This presents an entrapment and major safety hazard in the event of an emergency which can lead to the loss of life and a law suit to the owners. Bunk room is completely separate from and has no access to the main house. In the event of an emergency, a cry for help will go unheard. Additionally occupants must face the elements (snow, wind, rain, cold, etc.) to cross from it to the main house. No phone service to call 911. Cellular connectivity is very spotty and depending on carrier can be non-existing. The house is showing its age and use; loose floor boards, kitchen cabinets that don’t close, etc. In the positive is the location close to the lifts and in a gated community. Excellent area for taking hikes with the dog. Comfortable.

Nice place
The house is quite comfortable. The lighting is pretty dim in the living area. A few more lamps would be nice. The hot tube was a nice surprise I didn't notice in the write up. Not enough towels put out in the bunk room bath area, but I found some left in the dryer. Kitchen was supplied pretty well. Kitchen layout made it a little hard for more than two people to work in it at once. Bunk room beds might be fine for kids, but the adults sleeping on them found them a little uncomfortable. The house is in a beautiful location. Nice to be able to drive right up to Dolly Sods trail head in Timberline. Great deck. Great dining area. Plenty of parking. Nice Mt. Bike Riding from the house and in the area. Overall, very comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Beautiful Cabin, dirty hot tub
We had a wonderful time at Dancing Bear. It is a beautiful cabin in a lovely & peaceful neighborhood. We would suggest it to others. However, we had a dirty hot tub issue. At least 6 people in our group got a hot tub bacterial infection that a doctor confirmed was hot tub folliculitis, caused by bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa. One person’s entire torso was covered. We understand that this can happen in hot tubs that are not maintained properly. When I reached out to the rental company to let them know that the hot tub was infected, so they could clean and prevent further infections. I expected an apology and a thank you from the company for letting them know the issue, so they could properly clean the tub. However, instead they blamed us for the infection. They said the hot tub was very dirty and that they found food in the tub after we left. I explained that if they were telling the truth about food in the tub it was not from us, because none of us ate in the hot tub, so it must have been poor maintenance from before we arrived. I trust that it was dirty when we left, because it was poorly maintained when we arrived. But we had not done anything inappropriate in the hot tub to make it dirty. I also pointed out that the bacteria causing the infections must have been there when we arrived, because a person who went in the hot tub only once, immediately when we arrived, had the infection. Therefore, the bacteria was an issue upon our arrival. Yet, they continued to blame us. So to summarize, many of us ended up with a very unpleasant bacteria hot tub infection and some people went to the doctor and were put on antibiotics. To be nice we let the company know there were issues in the hot tub, so more renters would not have a negative experience. But instead of thanking us for alerting them, they accused us of creating the problem. But the timing of people's infections do not align with that, since at least one person got the infection the first night and she was the first one in the hot tub. We were not going to give a negative review, because we enjoyed the cabin and know that hot tubs occasionally have issues. However, we decided to tell the story after the company blamed us. Hot tub infections/trips to the doctor is not how anyone wants vacation to end. This happened because the tub had the bacteria when we arrived. We have rented dozens of cabins through the years and never had hot tub infections. I am bummed about this year
