What a great property to relax and enjoy beautiful Lake Kabatogama. Large deck overlooking the lake with windows that provide a scenic view all day long. Amazing! We were able to leave 2 out of our 3 boats at the dock throughout our stay. We used the local campground to overnight the 3rd boat.

The best boating in the upper Midwest
I can't really make a complaint about the house or with the communication with the owner. I found the property was as advertised and the internet was better than expected. For those looking to stay in this remote area, remember to pack enough to wear since there won't be a place to do laundry. I just would hand wash a t-shirt or socks when needed and line dry on the deck. If you are bringing a boat, take this part seriously. This property is tight. Look, the whole area around Kabetogama is granite with thin soil. In my case I am towing an 18' boat on a twin axle with a 4Runner. I could pull into the communal drive way and park next to the home but backing out was a process. I couldn't back out and make a turn to the driver side. I would clip a tree or not make it up the steep incline on the drivers side. Going to the passenger side just set me up to back all the way down the communal drive way. This method would include a hill, a curve and keeping the train between large rocks at the end of the driveway. The only option for us was to back up straight and use some wood pieces under the trailer tires to lift the trailer up and over a rock and then you had some space to back up further and point your tow rig down the driveway. If you have a 16' boat on a single axle trailer and a quarter ton with a 6' bed you could sort this out differently. If you are longer than this example, good luck. I was blessed without rain that would have further complicated things.

Follow up
We had a good week. Couple of items: 1. We broke a wine glass and we needed 2 small glass storage containers to take back some fancy chutney and bean dip made by vegan family members. 2. You had agreed to provide a check for about $100 based on a new pricing policy you created for additional guests. Please adjust that check for items in 1. 3. Please update me on timing of check. THANKS!

Great place!
The property exceeded our expectations in so many ways! First of all it is so peaceful and the views are amazing!! It has a great porch, and both floors have huge windows, so even when we were inside, we could enjoy the sunsets and stars. They have a perfect sitting area downstairs. It has a couple chairs facing the windows, and you can put your feet up and have coffee in the mourning. It is shown in the picture- one of my sons showing the other how to tie a knot on a fishing pole. Upstairs has a great sitting area as well. A chair perfect for reading, a table where one of my sons did a Lego set, and an extra bed for naps. They have games and puzzles. There is a paddle boat and a canoe. We enjoyed watching our teenagers go across to the island and do the rope swing. Perfect distance- far enough to be an adventure, but close enough to swim if they had too. We did day trips- international falls/ Canada. Bear sanitary in Orr was a highlight of the trip. We were able to do breakfast with the bears. We also went to a wolf sanctuary in Ely. We were going to do the mine there too, but it was closed do to flooding. We also did a boat tour through the national parks to kettle falls and short hikes. Perfect balance of adventure and relaxation. Hosts were great- they decorated for July 4th, left wildflower bouquets, and were very helpful- they even mailed us backed a Canada sweatshirt my son left for no extra charge. We would definitely return!

We are long time cabin owners on Lake Kabetogama and needed a place for my husband’s nurse to stay for our two week visit. From the initial contact Julie and Arvin could not have been more communicative and kind. I got a chance to spend time with them and they are both lovely people with a passion for their time at the lake. The home is beautiful, clean and well-appointed and the location and view is amazing. If you are traveling to Voyageurs National Park and Lake Kabetogama you need to check their home out and book it! Thanks, Julie and Arvin for a fabulous stay!

Loved the sunrise looking over the bay every morning before we headed out fishing. We enjoyed the flowers leading to the dock and bullfrog pond. And we caught fish every time we went out. An amazing time

Serene Northwoods Getaway
Our family had booked a week to stay at Echo Retreat for early June 2022, but we were forced to cancel due to the epic flooding they had. Arvin and Julie graciously rescheduled our booking to the same week 2023. We are so appreciative of their stellar communication, both this year and last. We enjoyed the spaciousness of this beautiful lake home, as well as the privacy and the gorgeous view of Lake Kabetogoma. It had everything we needed for our stay, from a fully-stocked kitchen to lots of hooks on the walls to ample comfortable seating. The huge deck was ideal for relaxing with a book and a glass of wine. The temperature in the house was always comfortable, whether we needed the AC or the heat (and we needed both!), and there was plenty of hot, pressurized water for our showers (conserving water was not an issue at all). Sadly, the dock was not usable since it was nearly entirely underwater, rendering it useless to us. Fortunately, we had rented a boat from Northern Lights Resort and Outfitters (another fantastic place we recommend), which was located just up the road, so it wasn't too much of a hassle. There were lots of fish to be caught on the lake, the gravel roads were perfect for walking, and the coffee and ice cream at the nearby Pine Ridge Gift Shop were a special treat! Thank you so much, Arvin and Julie, for entrusting your property to us for a much-needed Northwoods retreat!

Heaven on Lake Kabetogama!
Absolutely loved our get-away at thie beautiful cabin on Lake Kabetogama. If you are looking to get away to enjoy the peace and quiet of this beautiful lake, this is the place. The house is gorgeous, with stunning views of the lake from both inside and on the beautiful, huge deck. Beautiful ‘up north’ decor. With half the lake being National Park there is not near the water traffic as there can be on many lakes in the area. The owners are great and welcomed us with a yummy treat of pumpkin bars. Can’t recommend this property enough. We can’t wait to come back.

Beautiful Stay
From the very start of the booking to the very end of our stay, Julie and Arvin have been fantastic, in communication, friendliness, and available if we had any questions. We booked for my Mother in laws memorial family get together. She loved Lake Kabetogama and we had never been there. It was breathtaking scenery, sunsets, sunrises. The cabin is beautiful, clean, and added to the setting. Thank you Julie and Arvin for sharing your beautiful home with us and for helping us celebrate my MIL's life. My sons didn't want to leave. We didn't want to leave. We will definitely be returning. 💜

For an awesome lake vacation with quiet and beauty in abundance, look no further. A beautiful location & huge and well-appointed property. Julie is a most gracious and communicative host and immediately answers any questions about the property & area. My daughter and I brought inflatable kayaks and had the best time in them. The surrounding wildlife is amazing. If you fish, this lake is a dream destination. All rocks on all shores, so bring water shoes if swimming. Our only issues were due to the recent flooding...the park service had to cancel all lake tour activities and the mosquitoes had to be factored in re night time outdoor plans. Otherwise, the daily sunrise over Echo island is something I'll remember for the rest of my life. So much to do and the perfect place from which to enjoy it all!

Late August @ Echo Bay Retreat
We had an amazing week at this beautiful home on Lake Kabetogama. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and enjoyed the beautiful sunrises each morning from the beautiful deck. The only concern for some may be the fairly steep walk down to the lake, but there is a boardwalk with handrails to help. The owners were awesome to deal with and were extremely responsive. All in all this was as close to a perfect week in the north woods as one could ever hope for.
