NOT book now, pay later property
Hotels.com claims this hotel is book now, pay later but I was charged immediately with no notification by the hotel. The property then said they do not offer pay later and said they couldn’t refund my money when I called, therefore we were stuck with this hotel. It was easy to find and clean, just be aware that this is not a book now, pay later hotel.

SO clean. Hip vibe. Having security at the front desk for midnight arrival made me feel safe. Very efficient room design for minimalist decor. May want earplugs for some street noise. Great price compared to NYC big name hotels!

The property is conveniently located nearly Soho and Chinatown and a very walkable distance to Union Square. The room really only had what you needed - a bed and a bathroom - which is perfect for a short 1-2 night stay. The only thing is that Houston St gets pretty loud in the nighttime so I highly recommend ear plugs if you're a light sleeper.

This place was a perfect affordable stay in the heart of the lower east side. Super walkable area and close to the Subway. There is nothing fancy about the hotel itself but it was very clean and just what we needed for one night. The self check-in with the code was quick and convenient as well. Good spot for the price!

Not set up to provide a good experience
This hotel is set up as a no-receptionist, all-electronic access property. The problem I encountered were several: the first email I received with my room and access code provided an access code but no room number. I assumed the updated email would arrive while I was in transit but it did not. By the time I arrived, I had to call the phone # provided to request my room number - but the call went straight to voicemail. I was called back within a few minutes, but this was not a seamless experience. The lobby area (small) led to a hallway with my room - which a maintenance person showed me. The room - small but workable for NY given the reasonable price ($250) was 92 degrees (yes, ninety two). I turned the AC on, went elsewhere for a 2-hr dinner, returned and the room as still 92 degrees. I texted the contact number and was told someone would be there in 10 minutes to fix things. A different maintenance person arrived and told me "the building is old so there is only Heat (winter) and AC (summer) so you need to turn it off and open the window." So I slept in a ground floor room with the window cracked (not ideal or completely safe). The bed was comfortable, the room was workable although the shower head was lousy (full pressure but uneven stream). I will not be staying here again - too much stress and attention to accommodations.

Rundown room and no staff on-site.
No staff for check-in. Have to scan card & ID online. Dirty old room and furniture. Shower wouldn't drain & water temps kept changing from scalding hot to cold. Rock hard bed with huge ruts in the old mattress. Won't stay here again. Not worth 1/3 of the price I paid.

Room was small but clean, bathroom was nicely updated and had great pressure and hot water. They have more full time staffing than the website implies, overall a great experience. Close to transit and a lot of cool spots.
