Wonderful house in Tuscany
The house is just as beautiful in person as it is in the pictures. There is a lot of space, including a big kitchen to enjoy cooking. The house is right off the main intersection in town at the same time that it's very private and quiet. We were delighted that the town was so lively! It's small and quiet, but it's very much alive in the sense of locals hanging out at the two cafes/bars, shopping at the butcher or the bakery, music on Friday night, etc. (There also is a small Coop supermarket right in town, so you don't have to drive to get staples.) We recently stayed at a beautiful old house in a small town in France where the town was effectively dead/empty, and it was lovely that this was not the case with Montieri. The owners were friendly, helpful, and right on time for check-in and check-out. The house's walls are nearly a meter thick, which helped the house stay cool with natural "air conditioning" even when it got hot during the afternoon. (There is no regular/electric air conditioning, which we wouldn't have needed anyway.) We had some difficulty with the internet service, but this didn't mar our experience overall. One note for people with allergies is that even though the interior of the house is supposed to be non-smoking, there is a third-hand smoke smell that has permeated some of the walls and furniture, perhaps from past years when smoking was allowed. As long as you can keep doors and windows open to air out (e.g., in the summer), people with smoke allergies shouldn't have a problem.
