Live like a local during your stay in this charming stone cottage located in a small village located in the chateau-laced region of the Dordogne.
Your stay would be in a late-19th century stone cottage (maison-en-pierre) and have the entire house to yourself.
As the cottage serves also as my main residence during the low season, you would have access to the comforts of a proper home, such as full-size washer and dryer, refrigerator, Wi-Fi, and a comfortable queen-size bed with linens suitable for whatever season you are staying.
Free unreserved parking is available.
***A cash security deposit of 500 euros may be required. This would be refundable at the end of your stay barring no damage or missing items from the property.***
OTHER INFORMATION ABOUT THE AREA
Practice your French with the neighbors or learn a few phrases, but be assured that you will find the enchanting lifestyle to tempt you to stay longer or to return again soon.
Imagine life during the Hundred Years War as you visit the prolific and grand chateaus or simply relax and enjoy a leisurely lunch with a carafe of wine at a local café.
HOST AVAILABILITY
It is my goal to personally greet you on arrival, to familiarize you with the cottage and environs. If for some reason, I am not able to personally greet you, I will ensure someone who is familiar with the area is available to do so. Regardless, I will be readily available to answer questions during your stay.
Once checked-in, you will find a list of things to do, my favorite restaurants and places to visit, as well as better-known offerings of the region.
I would also be happy to provide suggestions based on your interests to help you have the best experience possible once your reservation has been confirmed.
For stays of 14 nights or more, a cleaning service may be arranged.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD
The cottage is located in a quiet village close to Belvès, a medieval town with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and designated one of the most beautiful villages in France (Les Plus Beaux Villages).
The village has an auberge (inn) that serves lovely lunches and dinners located just a minute’s walk away. Should you feel up to venturing out further for your meal, restaurants and cafes abound, taking you on a historical road trip through the enchanting countryside.
There is a charging station for your electric car located within the village as well as in the Belvès main parking lot.
Within a 5-minute drive from the cottage, there are two golf courses, a filature (wool shop) with not just yarns for sale but classes on offer, and the town of Belvès for which you will find many other things to do and see.
On Saturday mornings, head to the farmers market in the Belvès town square for fresh produce, meats, and other local products, or just for people-watching as you sip your coffee at an outdoor café. Farmers markets are held every morning in a nearby village if you happen to miss the one in Belvès.
Bicycling is a popular activity along with canoeing, trail-walking/hiking, and golfing. Bicycles, canoes, and golf clubs may be rented from the respective local businesses. If you enjoy walking, there are several loop trails right out the cottage front door, as well as hundreds of kilometers of trails throughout the Dordogne.
The cottage is located in the département of Dordogne which is well-known for its history of early humans who painted their stories on cave walls, giving the area the largest concentration of prehistoric art in the world.
Lascaux in Montignac, the magical medieval town of Sarlat-la-Canéda, the hilltop bastide of Domme, chateaus of Beynac and Castelnaud are all within an hour’s drive.
Wine, truffles, foie gras, and beautiful weather are other delights found in this region.
