Travel to Vietnam

In defiance of its turbulent history, Vietnam is rapidly evolving into a major tourist destination. From stunning coastline vistas to chaotic cities, Vietnam offers a wide range of attractions. With the ebookers travel planner tools, you can find budget flights to Vietnam and manage all of the details of your trip.

Major Airports in Vietnam

A limited network of airports connects cities in Vietnam. The two largest airports are in Ho Chi Min City (formerly known as Saigon) and Hanoi. The Tan Son Nhat International Airport, which is located about 4 miles outside of Ho Chi Minh City, is the gateway into southern Vietnam. If you are travelling in the northern part of the country, you will likely fly into the Noi Bai International Airport, which sits 18 miles outside of the city centre.

Transportation from Vietnam Airports

No matter which airport you fly into, the easiest way to get to your destination is by taxi. Taxis in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi occasionally have meters, but in many cases, you will need to agree on a price with the driver in advance. Many hotels in both cities offer free airport transportation, which you must book before arrival. If you are flying into Ho Chi Minh City, the drive from the airport into the city takes about 15 minutes and costs approximately 200,000 dong. In Hanoi, a taxi into the city can take over an hour in heavy traffic. The fare is usually about 330,000 dong.

Weather in Vietnam

The weather in Vietnam often varies considerably from north to south. In the northern part of the country, around Hanoi and Sapa, temperatures can dip below 0°C. Most of Vietnam experiences a dry season and a wet season. During the dry season, which runs from November to April, temperatures can rise to 27°C. In the wet season, most of the country averages 22°C, but the high humidity makes days feel hotter. If you are travelling from May to October, be sure to pack an umbrella to combat the frequent afternoon rainstorms.

Highlights of Vietnam

Most of Vietnam's most fascinating attractions are located outside of the major cities. In the southern part of the countries, you can visit the Cu Chi Tunnels, where the Vietnamese army lived during wartime. In the central part of Vietnam, life slows down in Hoi An, and you can relax on the beach or wander through the quaint streets. Hoi An is also the best place in Vietnam for custom clothing. In northern Vietnam, don't miss the stunning Ha Long Bay or the cold, mountainous region of Sapa. With the exception of Sapa, which experiences very cold weather in the winter, the bulk of Vietnam's attractions are easy to visit year round.
