The house is clean, spacious, and comfortable. Everything (appliances, WiFi, A/C...) is new, and the kitchen is well-stocked with dishes, pots, utensils, etc. You will see bugs, especially ants (who will get into anything you don't wrap up or put in the refrigerator), but that's unavoidable in the Caribbean. The pool is a bit smaller than it looks in the photos, but it's a beautiful spot, and we spent many happy hours swimming and napping on the deck. Two small concerns to note about the house, though: first, there are many roosters in the neighborhood, and until you become accustomed to the noise, they will make it hard to sleep at night; second, there's a new house under construction right below the pool area, so you may want to check to see if/when the builders will be active -- one morning, they were banging away on the roof just a few feet from us.
Grand Anse beach is down the hill and across the road. But it's not a pleasant walk, given the traffic speeding by, so even though its very close, you may want to drive there. In any case, we preferred a couple of other beaches (Perle, 5 minutes to the north, and Petit Anse, to the south).
There's a supermarket in Deshaies, but the one on the road to Saint Rose is much larger and only 10 minutes away.
The roads in the area are good, but keep in mind that the area is very hilly (not easy for the little car that we rented), with lots of curves. So if you want to explore the southern part of Basse Terre, you should expect the drive to take longer than your GPS will predict.
All in all, we (2 adults, 2 teenagers) had a lovely time. If you want fancy restaurants and clubs, this isn't the right area. But if you prefer a more casual scene, quiet beaches, and some hiking and snorkeling, then it's a good choice.
