Ok so we had 1 night booked so we could come over from Zanzibar to do some shopping. Check in states 2pm and we arrive at 2.30pm. We had booked a King sea view room. We proceed to try and check in where the lady asked us to sit down for a few minutes, not a problem we sat in reception and waited. Whilst we were sat there we overheard an elderly American couple who had been waiting to check in for 3 hours. After an hour sat on the sofa in reception I went back and asked was there a problem? After several discussions with other members of staff the lady stated that there was a technical issue with our room. After another 15 20 mins she came back to say they had upgraded us BUT this wasn’t a sea view. At that point we just wanted to shower get changed and explore, therefore we agreed, after all it was only 1 night. We headed towards the lift and tried to access the lift with our room key, it wouldn’t work, so back to reception. This happened 3 times until finally it was sorted. The room was adequate and very clean, however the safe didn’t work…. (It needed new batteries) that took a further 40 mins. By that time the shops we wanted to visit were shut. We decided to go to the slipway shopping mall and have tea. When we returned we tried to access the club lounge and grab a coffee, only to be told it wasn’t working. Also I might add NO snacks…. So what a complete waste of our holiday because of the poor and inadequate customer service. Let’s be honest we only went over to.

Although only a one night stay we were very impressed with the Johari Rotana and in particular their staff service. Nothing was too difficult and the staff were cheerful and willing to go above and beyond for customer satisfaction.

I hate leaving a one star review because yes you should book at the Johari Rotana!! The service here is exceptional and also the amenities are great! They know 5-star❣️ Miraji, Neema, Said, Cyrian and my fave bartenders on 8!! They treated me the best but made my drinks how I like them and now I can’t remember their names, Lol! Eugene and just the entire staff at the Gaston pub is the best!! Sorry I missed names but you all were amazing to me, Asante Sana Now that kibo restaurant manager should be fired cause the staff is amazing but each time I went here the food was stale and against my better judgement I got hungry and ordered in room dining their most expensive dish at the Kibo, their prawn sandwich and it arrived to my room stale, i picked at the dried shrimp and what a regret … it ruined my entire trip in Zanzibar well at least the first 4 days I couldn’t leave my bed… didn’t get to do any tours and being from the states this trip was very costly. It’s also unacceptable since this was the only restaurant opened during this time to offer in room dining… also the hotel was super busy, how was it possible I got spoiled prawns with 5 presidents staying at this hotel during the same time I was there! The Kibo ugh!! Everytime I went there stale food!! I should have complained sooner but the staff is really friendly but Kibo in-room dining almost cost me a hospital visit if it wasn’t for my faith in God!!! So pissed and this is unacceptable to risk guests life like that!!
