A short drive away, we’ll visit the Tymvos, the monumental burial site of the fallen Athenian soldiers who fought in the famous Battle of Marathon in 490 BC. This historic stadium, made entirely of white marble, was the site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 and remains one of the most iconic landmarks in Olympic history. Walk in the footsteps of the world’s greatest athletes and imagine the energy of the Games that began here over a century ago. In the Atrium of Kallimarmaros there is also a permanent exhibition of Olympic Games torches and posters from 1896 to the present day.
