A REAL 1850's Log Cabin near the NEW RIVER TRAIL STATE PARK

Welcome Beautiful Summertime! The thick chestnut logs keep the Cabin cool during the hot days and of course, there's central air too. Book your visit now! This is an enchanting time to visit Virginia's BLUE RIDGE. It's easy to like Kent's Cabin! Convenient to get to and we have Self-Check in. You won't have to see anyone and from that old TV ad, we will leave the light on for you! Kent's Cabin is close to The New River Trail State Park. We are a mile away from the Shot Tower Entrance and the Foster Falls entrance is about 4 miles away. Many of our guests come specifically to walk or ride on the New River Trail. It's a unique 57-mile linear park that follows an abandoned railroad bed. The park parallels the scenic and historic New River for 39 miles and passes through four counties and the city of Galax. The Trail's gentle slope makes it great for visitors of all ages to hike, bike and ride horseback. The Park's Foster Falls facility offers a variety of seasonal services which include guided horseback trips, canoe and bike rentals; boat launches and a gift shop. Covid-19 restrictions may affect the availability of services. Please check the Park's website: https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/new-river-trail or call 276-699-6778 for up-to-date information about the trail.

The Cabin is the perfect place to celebrate a Special Occasion such as your Birthday, an Anniversary or Honeymoon or just to have a quiet weekend away from the Kids. Relax and forget all your worries and experience a slower, carefree Lifestyle in our Historic Cabin! Plus you don't have to leave your Pets at home. We welcome your well-behaved Fur Babies
History buffs will love this property built of rare CHESTNUT logs. It’s difficult to pinpoint when the house was actually built, but a historical society who toured the house determined that it was constructed around 1850. This makes it one of the oldest, existing structures in Wythe County. If only these walls could talk. It would be amazing what they would say.
While many of the historic features have been preserved, we've updated and equipped the Cabin with everything to make your stay comfortable and convenient. Year-around comfort for cozy warmth and cool air for hot summer days is insured by the heat pump. The authentic stone fireplace is outfitted with gas logs in the Living Room which ignite with the touch of a remote button. Imagine sitting on the comfy sofa or recliner and enjoying a glass of wine. We even include a complimentary bottle of wine.
The modern Kitchen has a full-size glass-top electric range, refrigerator with ice maker, dishwasher, microwave and toaster. Of course, there are dishes, glassware, pots and pans and lots of utensils are included so that you can serve dinner in the eat-in kitchen. It has a roomy table with hidden leaf. There is also a drip coffee maker with supplies supplied for your first pot. Also included are basic seasonings, coffee creamer, sugar and sweetener. There is also an LG stackable washer/dryer with detergent pods included. There's a half bath just off the kitchen. The deck overlooks Shorts Creek which flows into the New River. Think "Babbling Brook" sounds. Also there's a gas grill on the rear deck with propane supplied for cooking steaks or your own New River “catch–of-the-day.”
Exposed chestnut logs grace the second floor bedroom which has a large walk-in closet and a full bath with a tub/shower. Generous-sized towels included. There’s a comfortable Pillow-topped queen bed with luxury linens. Maybe you'll be lucky to have an overnight rain shower while you're there. Imagine being lulled to sleep by rain on our metal roof. It's truly a magical experience!
Stay up-to-date on current events with two 43" HD flat screen television sets: one in the living room and one in the bedroom. Basic DirecTV is included. We would prefer that you take it easy and have some well-deserved downtime, but if you insist on checking in with the office, we do have WiFi.
If you have Covid concerns: We have instigated extra cleaning measures. We thoroughly clean the kitchen and bathrooms with Clorox cleaner and other surfaces with Lysol cleaner. We wipe all surfaces, handles and door knobs between guests. We use a disinfectant detergent for the laundry also. There are also disinfecting cleaner and cleaning cloths provided under the kitchen sink.
We're easy to get to, just off I-77 and Route 52. The highways are well-maintained, so even in Winter the Cabin is very accessible.
Visiting Kent's Cabin is a unique and memorable experience that you won't soon forget. Several of our Guests have returned time and time again. We've been awarded the Premiere Partner designation with VRBO and have many glowing reviews from our Guests. Come check us out!

Very cute, but the stairs...
This was a cute cabin, and it served my need to hide for a few days and check out of daily life. The 4 days I was there were rainy, so I didn't get to use the patio, but it was there and had a grill & patio furniture, as advertised. In fact, it was all as advertised & I enjoyed staying there. The bed was very comfortable, with a separate TV in the bedroom. The stairs were a challenge. Let me preface this by explaining that I'm quite short. The stairs were steep, but that wasn't the issue. I had actual problems lifting my short legs high enough to get to the next step. (Honestly, it would've been funny on film!) Similar to hiking, when you have to go from one spot to a higher one, even when you get your foot on the next spot, it can be hard to pull yourself up because your center of gravity is too low. So, you end up using your hands & crawling. Yeah, this was me going up the stairs! I used my hands & the step 2 steps up to get me to the next step. I accidentally got a leg workout. :-) But, seriously, it's a nice place where you get a leg workout. It has a fully stocked kitchen - pots, pans, utensils, plates, bowls, glasses, mugs - it's all there. My only suggestion is to add disposable cups (or a reusable plastic cup) to the upstairs bathroom. Once I got my short legs upstairs, there's no way I was going down and back up, so I had to hand-scoop water to my mouth to brush and take my meds that first night, but that's minor. Thanks for a great 4 days - it was a pleasure!

Kent’s Cabin was perfect for the two of us. Since we were biking the New River Trail, it was a great location. And only 20 minutes to the charming town of Wytheville. The cabin was spotless and very cozy. Being a little chilly at night, the gas fireplace was very welcoming. There was everything we needed in the well stocked kitchen and bathrooms. Hearing the stream flow past the house was a bonus. Ann and Judi were the perfect hosts. My husband and I would definitely stay here again. We loved everything about it!

New Year Getaway
Cute old cabin. Kitchen all up to date. Enjoyed cooking in it. I had many nights sitting in front of the fireplace. So very peaceful. Taking a long soak in the good size tub also there was plenty of hot water, never ran out. Also loved that it was only about 1 mile from a winery. Staff welcoming. Sit in front of their fireplace and have a glass.

New years hideout
We were worn out by lots of company all summer and Fall as well as the holiday crazies so we booked this hideout. Three days of quiet, didn't turn on the TV, exploring local towns and hiking the New River Park Trail were all we needed.

We enjoyed our stay at Kent’s cabin. Conveniently located close to the New River Trail, this place has received a lot of TLC. The bed is very comfortable, the linens and towels are plush, the kitchen is well stocked, and the fireplace is gorgeous. We have absolutely no complaints. Hoping to get the opportunity to visit again.

Great cabin
We had a great stay at Kent’s cabin. The place was clean and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. It was convenient to the New River Trail where we spent several days hiking with our dog. The steps upstairs were steep, but our Lab had no trouble climbing up and down them.

A Uniquely Pleasant Experience
I view it as a privilege to have stayed in such an old structure that was well maintained and clean with an updated, bright kitchen and all appliances working. The bed upstairs was comfortable with a large walk-in closet and a nice bathroom. The steps to the bedroom were steep, as one might imagine in an old cabin, but the railing was sturdy. The road was close by, but I was not bothered by the traffic. I hope to return again.

Our stay at this cabin was wonderful! We were in need of a peaceful getaway and this fit the bill. The check in process was very easy and the cabin had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. We enjoyed cooking out and even our dog had a wonderful time! We also went fishing and hiking at the nearby state park and checked out the local antique malls. This was a very enjoyable place. 1850's Cabin
Our Hosts were super attentive to all of our questions with immediate responses. The cabin was roomy enough and comfortable, however, I have a very sensitive nose and could still smell old stale cigarette smoke from years ago. It did not smell like that which you would get from a fireplace. Others perhaps might not notice. The living room lounge chair and sofa were comfortable but the room was dark even with all the lamps on. I had to sit with the lamp adjusted to directly over me in order to read at night. The AC worked but had to be turned way down at night to cool the upstairs bedroom. We wanted to open the windows but the dead bugs in the window sills prevented us. It does sit very near a bubbling creek but because of the noise from Route 700 highway which is also right there, you do not hear the creek till late at night.

The sweet log cabin near Foster Falls
Unlike most who spend the weekend here, we spent two weeks in the cabin as we have family in the area. There were pros and cons - although the pros did very much outweigh the cons. There were two cons (I would have known these ahead of time had I read other reviews). If you want a very quiet place to stay, consider Hwy. 52 is next to the house and, during the day, it can be noisy. Also the stairs to the upstairs were originally a ladder so the steps are narrow and steep. Aside from these two things, the rest were pros. The cabin was unbelievably clean with so many nice touches - pods for the dishwasher, dryer sheets and pods for the laundry, a bottle of wine from our favorite vineyard, Chateau Morrisette. When we got there Ernie, the caretaker, was mowing the yard. I told him I planned to work while there and he brought over a folding table that suited me perfectly. After the first week, he even stopped by to make sure we were OK and didn't need anything. The internet was just fine for working which I appreciated. The kitchen was modern and very well equipped. It was nice having a bathroom both upstairs and down. The bed was very comfy. Overall, the cabin was just as depicted and we enjoyed our stay.
