This is the second time that we’ve stayed at Penny Hedge and would highly recommend.
The staff are really friendly and welcoming. The hotel itself is clean and inviting. Parking is easy and free and the hotel is within walking distance of Whitby town centre. There’s also a Sainsbury’s about five minute walk away. There’s lots of things to see and do around the area and the hotel is in a central location. Thanks to all the staff for making us feel welcome, we had a wonderful stay.
It was a lovely bar. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was nice but no information on how to set room temperature and had to ask at bar for more toilet roll. Coffee etc which was a bit embarrassing. Otherwise it was a lovely stay. Twin beds were a bit small.
Lovely one night stay with the kids. Perfect family room. Ready early for us. Had all we needed and great to have a bath so soak away the beach day!
Food in the pub was good and the park there was nice to unwind with a drink while the kids played. Staff lovely and helpful. Will defo use again to turn a day trip into a little break.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was lovely. Very clean and tidy. A pleasant experience

Room OK, helpful staff but not enough of them. Restaurant understaffed, grubby tables, limited food options, unavailable wines on list (OK if your palate runs to "Red or White"). Good for an overnight stop but I'd suggest eating elsewhere if the place is busy. Breakfast next day was oddly the highlight, actually nice choices and well cooked and presented.
Lovely hotel which was clean and comfortable. The food was very good and the staff were friendly. I would recommend it to anyone wishing to visit whitby.
Stayed for two nights and ate at the attached restaurant. All the staff were very friendly and the food was lovely. I would definitely recommend the Penny Hedge at Whitby.
The accommodation was good, however the restaurant was disappointing, we pre booked for 18.00hrs on arrival we were told there would be a 40min delay we were asked if we would like a drink i declined opting to wait and have with my meal however my wife decided to have a J2O while we waited, we opted to take advantage of the steak and free drink offer, my wife ordered a medium rare and i went for a medium unfortunately they were both well done at best over well at worst. We were also told that the drink that we had already had could not be used in the promotion so we both had a glass of house red. However after viewing the bill it was noted that the cheaper J2O was used as the free drink and we paid dearer for the wine. I did not complain about the food or the overcharge but i would think twice before i used the restaurant in the future. But as a positive staff were friendly and room clean and comfortable.
Lovely 2 night stay at Penny Hedge. Great location for a walk into Whitby. Rooms had all you need. No road noise noted in the rooms. Lovely bar area for a drink. Would definitely stay again.
Convenient place to stay. Lovely pub next door with a children’s play area and the food was good. There’s a big sainsburys two minutes walk away with a bus stop to get into Whitby centre. Maybe the only thing that is missing in the room is that there is no fridge. Otherwise, great!
Very pleased with room bigger than thought bed very comfortable had everything you would need.
Staff very friendly especially the gentleman that we saw in reception about 13.30 lots of info given and keybesrky as room ready. Good idea to book in and out online saves time. 2 key cards for room so better if left one in room by accid
