Postgate Barn is a new holiday cottage developed from a barn conversion, newly introduced to the market for 2021. Since opening we have been very lucky to receive many extremely positive reviews over this period. However if you want to see further views of what other guests have come to expect from their visit to Postgate Farm, please see reviews of the linked next door property Postgate Nook (property ID 1989698). The property is part of a sympathetic conversion of a 200 year old barn, retaining many features of the original buildings whilst meeting modern standards of comfort and sustainability. With exposed beams, wooden floors and exposed stonework, but also incorporating modern features and technology to make your stay memorable, Postgate Barn is an ideal base for your holiday. The whole property benefits from efficient and comfortable underfloor heating with individual thermostats for each room, and the central heating system provides unlimited instant hot water. The whole heating system is powered by our CO2 neutral Biomass boiler. At the heart of the accommodation is the large open plan living space with 2 comfortable settees and large screen TV, with generous sitting room area, dining area and luxury fitted kitchen, with every mod con, including built in dishwasher. The smart TV is connected to Freesat and also allows you to access your own account for online video streaming. The TV cinema sound system also allows you to connect via BlueTooth to play your choice of music from your own device. A wood burning stove, with free unlimited supplies of fuel, provides a cozy backdrop for your evenings in, either eating at the stunning. wooden dining table, or in the sitting room watching TV or DVDs from our collection, or playing the selection of traditional board games. On the Mezzanine floor over is a further sitting area, with 2 bed settees which can provide additional sleeping accommodation for an additional 2 people. This area includes a separate TV and Play Station, with retro games for kids (and would be kids!), and is also a relaxing separate space to sit and read a book from the extensive collection. Bedroom 1 downstairs includes a zip and link bed which can be configured as either a King Size double bed or 2 single beds. This room has an ensuite bathroom with a luxurious walk in shower and WC. This bathroom can also be used as a downstairs WC due to the "Jack and Jill" door arrangement. Bedroom 2 upstairs also features en-suite facilities with open plan bath with shower over, and separate room with WC / basin. This bedroom has a stunning layout, with the King sized bed on a raised platform with extensive views from the picture roof light, and has exposed roof beams and stone wall with miniature "ventilation slot" windows. Outside there is a private terrace with stunning views over Glaisdale Dale, and a private garden with sitting area and lawn, perfect for eating out when the weather allows.
Off-road parking for up to 2 family cars is provided. The whole property benefits from our FREE superfast wi-fi broadband. We have washing machines and dryers plus additional freezer / fridge space for guest use in our shared washroom.
Note Postgate Barn potentially has additional sleeping accommodation for 2 people on the sofa beds on the mezzanine floor, so can easily accommodate up to 6 people. Please note we also have our sister property Postgate Nook next door. This adjoins Postgate Barn, and has its own separate private garden and separate entrance, but the two outside areas can be linked if required by opening a gate. Larger groups of up to 10 people could be accommodated by booking both properties.
Postgate Barn is a development of a 200 year old former agricultural barn at Postgate Farm, set in a beautiful, peaceful location in Glaisdale Dale, within the fabulous North York Moors National Park, yet less than half an hour from Whitby and the beautiful Cleveland coastline. The cottage has stunning views to the South over the Dale to the forests and moorlands beyond. The Dale itself is served by just one road which means very little traffic, yet is only a mile from the thriving village community of Glaisdale and all its amenities including the village pub, award winning butchers, post office and general store, tennis court and the Robinson Institute, home of the renowned Esk Valley Theatre Company. The village has a railway station and is served by local bus routes. Glaisdale is an ideal holiday location, with stunning walks and cycling available without even getting in your car. A little further afield are other parts of the North York Moors, with pretty villages such as Goathland, Grosmont, Egton, Lealholm, Rosedale Abbey and Egton Bridge just a few minutes drive or a healthy hike away, or by using the picturesque Esk Valley Railway, which runs from Whitby to Middlesborough, and also connects to the famous North York Moors Railway, complete with steam trains, connecting to Pickering. The local bus service connects to Whitby, and the other villages of the North York Moors. The towns of Pickering in the heart of the North York Moors, and Whitby on the coast are less than half an hour's drive away and can also be accessed by rail as mentioned above. York and Scarborough lie approximately 50 minutes drive from Glaisdale. Whether you want to see the beauty of the North York Moors with its expansive moorlands and hidden valleys, waterfalls and industrial heritage or the stunning Cleveland coastline, Glaisdale is an ideal base for your stay.
For food and drink lovers we are surrounded by great pubs and restaurants, and for those wanting to cook for themselves, great suppliers such as award winning butchers, fishmongers and smokehouses.
ACCESSIBILITY GUIDE
The property is a conversion of traditional farm buildings. As such, there may be some compromises to accessibility. Car parking is approximately 60m from the entrance door (although accessible closer by parking on the quiet roadside) and access to the property is along a path which includes steps. There is one bedroom on the ground floor, with en-suite walk in shower and toilet, accessed by just one small internal step. A second ensuite bedroom is on the first floor accessed by stairs. The terrace and garden immediately adjacent to the South are also accessed by steps.
PETS
As we are a working farm, unfortunately we do not accept pets.
