This region boasts a rich history and a diverse landscape that captures the essence of southern France. Starting with the Mediterranean Sea, visitors can enjoy beautiful sandy beaches before encountering the gently rolling terrain, dotted with inland lakes such as the 'Étang du Thau' and the 'Étang du Vic'. Along the coastline, charming towns like Sète, Agde, Pézenas, and Béziers boast histories that date back well before the beginning of the common era.
As you venture further inland, the landscape opens up to vast vineyards that stretch across the land, with even more striking scenery to the north where the hills become more prominent. Here, the terrain alternates between limestone, slate, and red bauxite soils, particularly noticeable around the stunning 'Lac du Salagou'. The sight of vineyards growing among the rocky outcrops is truly breathtaking, with vines flourishing despite their rugged surroundings.
The region is also home to impressive geological formations. Rivers have carved vast beds into the limestone, creating dramatic landscapes like the 'Cirque de Navacelles', the 'Gorges d'Héric', and the dry landscape around Mourèze. In places, rivers disappear underground, leaving behind caves and grottoes. The renowned Clamouse stalactite caves are among the most beautiful in France and are a must-see for nature enthusiasts.
In addition to the natural wonders, the area has several reservoirs, perfect for water sports enthusiasts. Archaeological sites add to the region’s charm, with the 'Oppidum of Ensérune' revealing remains dating back to the 6th century BC. Visitors can explore excavations on a hill that offers a glimpse into the ancient past.
Agde also holds remnants from its days as a trading hub with the Greeks and Romans, while Béziers features the famous 'Les Neuf Ecluses', a series of nine consecutive locks, an engineering marvel and a popular attraction. For those interested in modern architecture, Montpellier is a must-visit, where the architect Bofill has designed an entire district blending sleek concrete structures with ancient Greek column-inspired design, showcasing a remarkable fusion of the old and new.
Bed linen is not provided, please ensure you bring your own.Pets are welcome at no additional charge. The price includes mandatory final cleaning. The living room is equipped with air conditioning. In winter, the air conditioning unit also serves as a heater, and an additional electric heater is available for extra warmth. Please note that young groups and parties are not permitted.
