This apartment is in a great location, near the center of Tilburg. The station is close by, which is convenient if you arrive by public transport.

You can take a stroll into the center through one of the characteristic streets. This part of Tilburg is called the 'Dwaalgebied': the streets are just made to wander around. Here you will find everything from trendy boutiques and design stores to eateries and coffee shops. Just beyond that are the main shopping areas. The center is compact but versatile, which makes it the perfect destination for a day of shopping.

You could also cross the railway and head to the Spoorzone. This has been given a major upgrade in recent years and today you’ll find a lot of hotspots here for a local drink or a classic dish. Further along the track you will find a beautiful city park (formerly a neglected industrial area) where you can walk or relax.

Are you heading to a party in the Spoorzone or a concert at Poppodium 013? A taxi won’t be necessary. Everything is within walking distance!

I love to help guests get acquainted with all the beautiful nature, the delicious food and the conviviality that Brabant has to offer. When you’ve made your reservation I will share all my favorite spots with you.

City and city constructions sounds might be heard. (like anywhere in the city) It is City Center.

Extra Info:
Hotel Central Background

In 1931, the monumental Hotel Central was built opposite the station in Tilburg in Art Deco style by architect Casper Melchior Balthasar van den Beld. Before that time, the location was home to the café-restaurant Albert Janssen.

During World War I, Theo van Doesburg was stationed as a sergeant-postman on the Regte Heide between Tilburg and the Belgian border. The café-restaurant of Albert Janssen served as a meeting place for Van Doesburg and his artistic friends, who organized sensational Dadaist "intimate soirées" there. Preliminary ideas for a new magazine, *De Stijl*, were also formulated here, marking the start of the art movement De Stijl, founded in 1917 in Leiden. The outlines of this renewal movement were sketched in pencil at this location on Spoorlaan in Tilburg.

As a tribute to the spirit of innovation of that era, during the 2023 renovation of Hotel Central, it was decided to name each of the 21 rooms after an artist associated with De Stijl or a Dada artist.

In the figure of Theo van Doesburg, who wrote Dadaist poems under the pseudonym I.K. Bonset, De Stijl and the experimental absurdist Dadaism come together. Both art movements, which were reactions to World War I and the new era ushered in by the 20th century, stood diametrically opposed in their approaches.

Each of the 21 rooms in Hotel Central has been uniquely decorated, featuring specific accents and/or quotes from the respective artist, writer, or architect.

### Room 16: Piet Mondrian Room (Amersfoort, 1872 - New York, 1942)

Mondrian's style is known for its spectacular transformations throughout his career. What began with figurative landscape painting evolved into an abstract style of painting. New York was the city where Piet Mondrian spent the last years of his life. During World War I in 1914, Mondrian decided to stay in the Netherlands before moving to Paris. By then, Mondrian's style had already evolved into creating austere abstract compositions of geometric shapes. This change in style came after meeting Bart van der Leck and Theo van Doesburg, with whom Mondrian later formed the Dutch art movement *De Stijl*. Mondrian was one of the most prominent contributors to the magazine *De Stijl* and developed his own art theory, which he called "Nieuwe Beelding" or "Neoplasticism."

During this period, Mondrian sought to evoke a sense of harmony with his compositions, which featured the colors red, yellow, and blue, as well as horizontal and vertical lines. His goal was to create absolute beauty through abstract art. Starting in 1921, the well-known bold black lines began appearing in Mondrian's artworks. When World War II broke out in 1940, Piet Mondrian brought this style with him to New York.

In Room 16 of Hotel Central, guests sleep in a translation of the painting *New York Composition 1* from 1942. The original artwork, which was initially created using tape, has been part of the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen in Düsseldorf since 1980.
