Greenacre - close to beaches with hydropool spa

The perfect balance of style and comfort, whether you're seeking a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life or a vibrant base to explore the delights of Devon, Greenacre promises to create lasting memories for you, your loved ones, and perhaps bring the dog, too.

A stylish 1930s home, lovingly transformed into a contemporary haven. Its free-flowing design has inviting curved sofas and a high-quality kitchen with large island. 5 bedrooms (one snug sofa bedroom), 3 bathrooms, including a ground floor shower room, utility/games room, large family bathroom with large shower and freestanding bath and master en suite shower room, all of which have underfloor heating.

Outdoor seating and lawns give ample al fresco opportunities. Plus parking for several cars.

The Space

This fabulous holiday home, nestled in the charming village of Bishopsteignton, is a beautifully-renovated 1930s home with a perfect blend of vintage charm and modern comfort - an ideal retreat for a stylish and relaxing getaway.

As you approach Greenacre from the sweeping driveway and private front lawn, the welcoming hallway reveals the thoughtfully-designed living and dining zones and kitchen, which seamlessly flow throughout the ground floor. Plush curved sofas invite you to sink in and unwind after a day of exploration. The adjacent dining area also features elegantly curved seating, providing a delightful space at mealtimes. Large bi-fold doors flood the space with natural light, creating a warm and inviting ambience, looking out onto the lawns; and a pleasant seating area protected by a pergola for shade on a hot day or to keep showers at bay. There’s also a snug room (or 5th bedroom), which includes a double sofa bed, large smart TV, electric fire, and comfy chairs.

Smart underfloor heating throughout the ground floor puts you in control of zones which you want to give a warming boost.

The expansive kitchen exudes elegant functionality. White quartz surfaces contrast the darkened fossil-grey cabinets, incorporating high-quality built-in appliances, plus a large island and wine refrigerator, making meal preparation an absolute joy for both amateur cooks and seasoned chefs. To the rear of the kitchen, there's an open utility area with shower room with wash basin and WC in addition to separate area with table-top football for the kids to play (without the noise).

Upstairs

Upstairs are four more beautifully-appointed bedrooms with an en suite and family bathroom. The master bedroom features an en suite shower room, ensuring privacy and convenience, and with glimpses of the estuary and Dartmoor beyond with a zip a link bed that can be made into two single beds or a super king. The second front bedroom also has a zip and link bed as two singles or a super king. There are two further bedrooms to the rear. One has a double bed and the other has a king size bed. The family bathroom is a haven of relaxation, featuring an extra-large shower area, and - after a long day of exploring the picturesque surroundings - pamper yourself with a soothing soak in the freestanding bath and let your worries melt away.

Outisde

Venture outside through the large bi-fold doors for al fresco relaxation. Unwind with a book under the shade of the tree on the large front lawn. Or gather together in the sheltered seating area while you enjoy mouth-watering meals from the barbecue.

There’s also ample off-road space for several cars.

Guest Access

Fresh Escapes will provide access details to the property exactly 48 hours before your check-in time. Greenacre is for your exclusive use.

The Neighbourhood

Teignmouth

Teignmouth is a stunning coastal town with historic Georgian buildings, long sandy beaches, and fresh local food. The town sits on the edge of the mouth of River Teign and the South Devon coast – and is surrounded by lush Devon countryside, so you won’t find a more beautiful setting for a holiday. Located on the main South West train line, Teignmouth is an easy journey from London, along the most spectacular coastal train route in the country. Dartmoor National Park, Exeter and Torquay are just a few miles from Teignmouth, making it an ideal central location to explore the rest of South Devon.

Things to do in Teignmouth

Teignmouth is the ideal family holiday destination – with a Victorian Pier, lido, play park, crazy golf and skate park all within easy reach of the beaches and town centre to keep the kids entertained.

Teignmouth beaches are great for family days out, Teignmouth Town beach is a long expanse of sand with the pier, arcades and promenade. Local watersports are also on offer if you want to try kayaking, coasteering or paddle boarding. Teignmouth River Beach is full of beautiful fishing boats and has a wonderful quaint village feel – perfect for coastal walks with the dog.

The town itself has beautiful Georgian buildings and a lovely high street for a bit of retail therapy. On the promenade, Teignmouth Pavilions hosts a regular cinema and child friendly events all year round. Teignmouth Arts Quarter is full of galleries, TAAG, Voyage Art, Reuben Lenkiewicz Art Gallery which sells and displays Robert Lenkiewicz‘a work. There are also the cafes, back beach and other stylish individual businesses.

Across the river is the quaint village of Shaldon which has beautiful views across to Teignmouth, and is home to the Ness and a smugglers tunnel cut through the South Devon cliffs.

Ideal for walking, Teignmouth is on the South West Coast Path, as well as at the end of the Templer Way, an 18 mile walking trail which traces the historic line of granite being taken from the quarries at Haytor on Dartmoor, to the docks at Teignmouth. The walk follows the Stover Canal, and is one of many scenic footpaths covering South Devon.

Eating Out

With the sea and the River Teign, Teignmouth is gaining reputation as a gourmet destination. Most of the local seafood will have been caught that morning – you can watch the boats come in at the River Beach landing their catches before it goes to the local restaurants.

The Taste of the Teign food trail gives visitors the chance to visit and taste the towns gastronomic delights –world renowned mussel and oyster beds, picking fresh berries to make your own jams, visiting the country’s steepest vineyard, and microbreweries making craft beers and real ales.

Top Events in Teignmouth

In March, the Classical Music Festival and the Poetry Festival host events, recitals and workshops around the town. The Folk Festival in June is one of the top festivals in the UK – a 3-day event where the town atmosphere is electric.

During the summer holidays there are carnivals and regattas in Teignmouth and Shaldon that the kids will love. In September there is the Taste of the Teign Food Festival, and in November, the town is alive with the local Jazz Festival.

History of Teignmouth

Teignmouth dates back to 1044, when the town was originally two separate villages. By the 1800s it was fashionable with tourists, and to this day remains a functioning harbour. If you want to explore the history of the area further, a visit to the Teign Heritage Centre is a must.

Shaldon

Situated on the South Devon coast across the Teign estuary and opposite the town of Teignmouth, Shaldon is an unspoilt village with a thriving community. Many families in the village are still linked to the fishing industry and with a great range of local shops and attractions; it’s an ideal place for a relaxing holiday. Shaldon isn’t as commercial as many of the South Devon towns, but is perfect if you want to experience real Devon life firsthand.

Things to do in Shaldon

Explore Shaldon Beach, ideal for swimming, sailing, rowing, paddling and rock pool exploring, or the nearby Teignmouth Beach or Ness Cove beach, accessed via an original Smugglers tunnel. If you want to try out some water sports – head to Teignmouth and visit Sea Sports South West who offer kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, sailing and more.

If you want to explore the local area but don’t want to take the car, you can travel to Teignmouth on the oldest passenger ferry in England, where there are various cafés, restaurants and bars, as well as traditional seaside entertainment to enjoy.

Shaldon is on the South West Coast Path, and there is a spectacular walk from Shaldon to Labrador Bay with views across the coastline – on a clear day you can see Lyme Bay.

To keep the kids entertained, try Shaldon Wildlife Trust zoo, Pitch and Putt, or take a trip up to Haldon Forest and Go Ape, or along to the English Riviera for Paignton Zoo, Living Coasts and Babbacombe Model Village.

Events in Shaldon

For a great party, Shaldon Water Carnival features what could be the oldest running regatta in the world. It’s a festival of watery fun and ideal for families – held on the first Saturday in August.

Shaldon Regatta is held every August with over 120 events for all the family – get involved in the water activities or just watch from the beach – either way you will love the festival atmosphere.

History of Shaldon

The original settlement was a little upstream, where the fertile valley was cultivated. Shaldon is built on reclaimed land from silt, and there is a retaining wall that prevents the sea from returning to the beaches. Gradually the inhabitants turned to fishing, although the village still has a very rural feel.

Getting Around

Greenacre is perfectly connected for you to explore by car. Situated just off the A381, there are easy connections to the fast routes to Exeter, Torbay, and beyond. You’re also just minutes away from the traditional port of Teignmouth.

There are bus stops just a few seconds walk from the driveway with routes to Teignmouth and Shaldon (5 minutes), Dawlish, Starcross, Powderham and Exeter (45 minutes). Other routes also include Torquay (20 minutes), Paignton, Brixham, and Newton Abbott.

The train station in Teignmouth is 8-minute drive (or 16 minutes by direct bus). There are direct trains on the London-Penzance mainline, with frequent local services to the picturesque towns and resorts of South Devon.

Family holiday
A family of 9 and 3 dogs, we stayed for a week. The property was lovely and catered for all our family needs. It is big and airy with plenty of seating for everyone. The utility room was a must, having 2 small children with us and it was great to have the hot tub to jump into after a busy day. The downsides were that there was very limited hanging space in the bedrooms and it would benefit from hooks on the back of the doors and a full length wardrobe in the bedrooms. Overall a fabulous stay
