The property is beautiful, the pool and beach are great, short uber to town cost about $6, lots of shops and great food. They say they include 2 nights at an Italian or Japanese restaurant but you have to make reservations, do it soon as possible or you may not be get in. They clean your room daily, they give 1 or 2 waters for the day, and sometimes forget to leave coffee. Go to the front desk and land they will send more to your room. There is a cold water dispenser by the bar. Bring a big tumbler for ice, cold water and beer. There is no pool side service for drinks. This is a self service property. You get your food and drinks. Overall the food is good. If your a want 5 star treatment don’t stay here. The grounds are 5 star, the rooms, food and service is 3 star at best.

The place was dirry ans the staff were rude. They would not give you a bottle of water if you asked at the feont desk they would make you go all the way back to your room. Thwre were nultiple buildings and allbwere run down. The air conditioning did not work in the rooms and the dining was outside. Flies were on the food and it waa not kept hot.

Overall I thought it was great, the location was about a mile and a half to Tamarindo, but that’s okay I like walking. The food was good too, I wish they had more variety during dinner at the grill though. It was mostly pork chops every time I went. They had steak and chicken two days, I was there for 7 days. Overall it was a great experience and I’d definitely go back.

The location of this property and the pool area was great. Outside of that, it was pretty disappointing. My room was next to a very loud band every night from 8:30pm on. The food was by far the worst. Hardly any selection and the little selection there was really bad. The area was beautiful but I would definitely not recommend this hotel.

It as laid out very well and easy to find things. The house band was awesome and super friendly. The lack of English was surprising and the shows at night were almost entirely in Spanish. We would definitely recommend learning Spanish bf going. The beach is a surfing beach and rocky ( lava rock) not like the pitures. I fell and cut open both knees on a tour and the resort had alcohol , cotton and only little bandaides. My cuts were large so this was useless . I felt for a resort this was highly inadequate. The resort was extremely clean and the cleaning staff were awesome !!! The alcohol is definitely watered down . I purchased my own bottle of tequila and would add it to my drink when I had one. We heard lots of complaints from guests about the watered down drinks .

This property is nothing like what it is described as online. There is only one main resteraunt for breakfast, lunch & dinner and the food was not good at all. The hot dogs looked super old. They they don’t serve food after 10pm which is absurd. Every all inclusive resort i went to I’ve never experienced that. Usually there’s a snack bar that stays open but there snack bar closed at 7. They charged for certain liquors. They served drinks with only paper cups. They had an Italian restaurant and a Japanese restaurant that you could choose to make a reservation from. We chose Japanese but you could only get certain items of the menu, certain things you had to pay for. Every other inclusive resort I’ve traveled to I’ve never encountered that before. Everyone around the property acted as if they didn’t speak English when we were in need of help. Some of the people on the property was nice though. It really was a bad experience all around and i was there for 5 days. An i forgot to mention the A/c leaked the entire time it was on.

The food and facilities was good however the room I booked for our honeymoon was not what we received. I booked a two story suite with a king bed and was given a room just outside of the kids playing section and it had 2 full size beds. That’s not ok for a honeymoon. When asked about the two story suite we were told it wasn’t available due to renovations. This would have been nice to know since that room was one of the main reasons I booked this hotel.

Location was good - walkable to Tamarindo shops and restaurants, clean and nice staff. The only negative was the buffet food got a little boring as there we were only allowed 3 reservations for the 2 restaurants - the Japanese did not give enough food! Our favourite guy was the omelette and egg maker!

This was our 2nd time at the Occidental in Tamarindo. We stayed in a superior room and found it to be spacious and clean. The main dining area is a buffet and they have a variety of options and the staff are friendly. We went during the rainy season, so the resort was not at all crowded and it was relatively quiet, which we loved. Most guests and staff spoke Spanish with some English so communicating was doable. The surf was rough due to the weather, but we were able to walk the beach, enjoy the pool and lay under palm trees for a week while drinking Cuba Libre's, so it was still great! We also enjoyed eating at the onsite Italian and Japanese restaurants and watching the performers at one of the evening shows, which was surprisingly good. We walked to town, about a mile down the road, and did some shopping and talked with people from Italy, Bolivia, Turkey, France and the Philippines. It really is a safe and interesting town, which is why we keep going back. We had a great time and plan to return to the Occidental next year.

Honestly the hotel staff were good, especially Claudio. We didn’t have strong wifi in our room and our tv wasn’t working because of the storm, but they were able to transfer us to another room. The view of the beach is ok. Their gym could be better (lot of broken cables & out of order machines), their drinks were amazing especially the PURA Vidas. What I truly did not like was the food from the buffet. I feel like it could’ve been better, breakfast, lunch and dinner. it was not at all what i expected from an all inclusive. They did have some American options but even that wasn’t too great. I would recommend taking an Uber to Tamarindo central and going to the food trucks. BEST shrimp and cheese empanadas and some AUTHENTIC Costa Rica carribean food. Overall, it was just ok.
